Xm supporting O&A!

Click on the link to Xm's 202 page. They have a link to 0&A's on-air apology and then this paragraph:

"As a company, XM provides customers with tools to control what they listen to on XM. The Opie & Anthony Show appears on one of our explicit language channels (XL) which is clearly noted on the radio display and all our printed material. We also frequently mention on our explicit language channels that the content may be inappropriate for certain listeners, and that our service also provides our subscribers with the ability to 'block' channels that feature this type of content.

Props to XM for NOT caving in!

Both Sirius and XM radios have parental control. Why cave in when they know exactly what they offer so simply make it up to the customer to decide what he likes and wants to listen to.

Mostb1 is obviously crazy but he/she is right about XM talking out of both sides of their mouth. O&A's apology was clearly force fed to them by XM upper management who obviously is interested in not ruffling any governmental feathers while they wait for approval on the merger. So to then come out and say they completely support O&A is very disingenuous.

No way you can say that it is innocuous, that shows your desensitization to reality my man. Xm is standing by them for now, I guarantee if it gets any hotter for Uncle Mel and his merger he will pull the plug on them, he will insist that they get the broom and they will. In another post "The DUde" says screw the advertisers they should never have been on FM to begin with...............????????????.......Im amazed at the stupidity of that statement I must say. For starters the advertisers are only out for themselves and they're not making any moral statement, they're going to distance themselves from a tainted brand so that IT does not tain THEIR brand, it's called good and basic business. They never should have been on FM? well I guess that says something about O and A because you cannot blame anyone but them for their being on Fm again. Sure XM pushed them to do it..... sure Xm said "yeah give up exclusivity so that you can do a watered down version of our product which will do wonders for our bottom line"....... ::) ::) ::). Thye're on FM because Sadly O and A are greedy, and they're no longer hungry as they were when they were on afternoons. They have become everything, EVERYTHING they had ever accused Howard of being, they are lazy and put on the most half assed show. When was the last time that they DID anything on that show? the 50 gallon drum challange was interesting and funny, things like Voyuor bus was interesting and funny, that's when they actually DID things. Now it's all just them shooting the BS. That's lazy, and they have not been interesting or funny since they came back. Do not bother to argue, their numbers have reflected that. With all the supposed anticipation since their dismissal afer sex for sam, they should have had a built in audience and an instantly huge book in New York at leas. When I hear the excuse of them having to build up an audience it makes me laugh because if any of their competitors ever gave that excuse they would call them out for being full of it so fast.

Im pulling for them but I hate what they have become. Part of it no doubt is the chhange in fcc tone over the past couple of years I will grant them this much but truth is they are coasting in the biggest way.
 
Al Sharpton was just on with Lou Dobbs on CNN. He again called for them to be fired. It appears he's going to ask that the merger be blocked due to O&A's disgusting bit. He'll be discussing it more with Lou Dobbs who hosts WFAN's morning show tomorrow, Tuesday 5/14.

As I stated before, those are the magic words ".... he's going to ask that the merger be blocked"....... THERE IT IS, as I said initially if that happens, if he even suggests to any of the governing bodies that the merger be blocks, Uncle Mel is going to tell whoever at XM "They screwed me once before when a huge deal was on the table, not this time. THEY'VE GOT TO GO"

I dont wish it on them or anybody for that matter but I predicted that this would be the straw that breaks the camel's back and all the justifications of "this is what they do" in the world does not mean anything when they arent savvy enough to stay out of the way of a billion dollar corporate merger.

mostb1, who is the "we will get them fired from XM." Are you saying that you have multiple personalities. I would be embarassed if I aligned myself with Sharpton. Sharpton is a bigot and should actually apologize to the Mormon faith before goes out against anymore white radio broadcasters. Sharpton is an embarassment to the Christian faith.
 
I find it "innappropriate content" that Sharpton is spewing. I'm offended by his incessant picking on the Mormons. When can we start calling for Al Sharpton to be muzzled? How is it tht he can make comments about the Mormon Faith but Imus can't call a group of basketball players "nappy headed hoes"? Picking is picking, that's all I have to say. It's just as offensive.
 
You guys are missing the point when you try to make it about Sharpton. He is not the issue, what O and A said IS. You can call him a hypocrite all you want and for the record he was on Hanity and Colmes Friday and what he said about the mormon faith was not bigoted, you guys are seriously clutching at straws now. You dont have to like Sharpton but he still has the right to protest soething he finds offensive and destructive, O and A have NOBODY to blame but themselves and their own stupidity for this one, nobody. Imus backlash, XM/Sirius merger in the headlines, added attention being paid to shock radio by the conservatives, the religious right, every crackpot group with stationary with letterhead on it? and knowing that they pull the rape joke bit?....Dont even try to blame Sharpton for this one, O and A blew it because theya re self absorbed and believe all of their own hype. They could have been one of the greatest shows in history but they pissed it away with their egos and being wreckless, now they're just boring and desperate to be seen as cutting edge again, so they went too dar in the process....they are not smart guys.

Seriously, I'm rather tired of your self-righteous, rhetoric-filled rants ruining otherwise interesting threads. I would also like to know who granted you divine status as to tell the rest of us how and what to think, say and feel? (If you could provide names that would be great!) You have even dictated elsewhere on this board that women and minoities should be exempt from being made fun of. On what grounds? So if O & A were joking about prison rape of a fat, heterosexual, Italian man you could look the other way, right?

Anyone that gets as worked up over a dopey radio show as you appear to be should take their own advice from another thread; ".....time you need to get professional mental help."

You know, I must have very special radios. Every radio that I own has the function to not only change the station/channel/etc but to also turn the radio OFF.

Sure that was in awful taste, but if you listen to them on a regular basis, it's surely not shocking. If this kind of stuff offends you, then don't listen to their show.

I am helping an "organization" who wants them off. I've given them direct contacts to advertisers of their show on CBS stations. Very happy to help.

Sharpton has already apologized to Mormons. But history does show Mormons until about 25 years ago were not kind to blacks. I have lived for decades very close to a huge regional Mormon temple so that is one "religion" I do know a lot about.

Glenn Beck has aligned himself with Sharpton. Their march - arm in arm- on record labels to clean up hip hop music was great. Sharpton also briefly mentioned that with Lou Dobbs on Monday night. He'll discuss that with Lou on WFAN on Tuesday morning 5/15. If Sharpton can get something done, all power to him. As far as I am concerned, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
