Y100 Miami imports New York's sister station Z100 Elvis Duran and crew for mornings at Y100! No word on an official start date. The show will most originate in New York, but instead of being known as Elvis Duran and the Z100 Morning Zoo, it will be known as Elvis Duran & Y100 Morning Zoo. To add a little more local flavor, the show will sometimes broadcast from the Y100 studios and the show will feature contents, promos, etc designed especially for Y100 and Miami.

Does this mean CC's dropping that stupid ".7" from the station name?? I mean, come on! Your morning show using the moniker Y-100 and everyone else using Y-100.7?? What happened to using "100.7FM, Y-100!"???Time will tell.On the other hand, dig out those old Y-100 Morning Zoo tracks, rerecord some vocals, and use that as the theme song!Just ideas from a geek....

'Y-100.7' will remain, and locally it'll be known as 'Elvis Duran & The Y Morning Zoo' (no Y-100 or Y-100.7 in the name). The simulcast begins this Monday morning at 6 AM.THE MAJOR

Major. A couple of corrctions. The .7 is gone. All together and the simulcast does NOT start this Monday. Your source is off a little bit.

So they're making the change and I know people don't like the move. But what other options do they have. CC is saving money on talent and morning show staff. Do you really trust CC Miami to hire talent for a good edgy entertaining and very funny morning show. I think it's a great option for them, I think it will work. What local morning shows really shine in this market in the first place. Dj Laz (Power 96), Paul and Young Ron (Big 105.9), those two girls (Coast), Big Lip Bandit (99 Jamz). They can't do any worse than go with the Z Morning Zoo. It's an established morning show that has done well in New York for years going back to when Scott Shannon hosted it. Don't be suprised how well it will do.

Gees, not even a mention for the legendary Rick Shaw (Majic102.7) in the list of morning shows as a shining spot. I guess it shouldn't surprise me. We live in such a youth-oriented world with advertising rules that are so outdated it's embarassing. Anyway, a very impressive track-record for Rick who was broadcasting in South Florida before the other morning hosts were even born!

Sorry boss, I was only mentioning Y100's direct morning show competition. All due respect to Rick Shaw who has done more for South Florida Radio than anyone else. Riki Tiki is still the best.

Radaioman,If you're right about 'Y-100.7' going back to their original roots as 'Y-100' then that's another step in the right direction, but it seems that all of the money that Clear Channel is saving in simulcasting the 'Z Morning Zoo' (in lieu of starting up an all-new totally LIVE and local morning show) will be spent in redoing everything that has 'Y-100.7' plastered all over it - the web site, tee-shirts, hats, bumperstickers, letterhead, signage, etc. Then again maybe it won't cost too much to completely redo their official identity. At least they still have their official web site at y100miami.com (as well as the heavily-promoted y100.7miami.com).Do you know when 'Y-100.7' will become 'Y-100', and also when The Zoo kicks-off ?Carolina Bermudez stated on Friday's final farewell to Footy in Weston that it starts this Monday morning at 6 AM. I'll be listening at that time to see if it does. If it does not start then it won't be the first time that I've been wrong.I still think that this simulcast deal is probably the best thing that they could have possibly done at this time. If it's executed properly, and Carolina and Froggy are prominently featured in it then it could be wildly successful.THE MAJOR

Major,Yes, I do know when the syndication kicks off, and no, it isn't Monday. If you heard her correctly, then Carolina mis-spoke. All you will hear will be teaser sweepers this week. As for who will be featured, it's a syndication of Elvis Duran and the Morning Zoo. That's who will be featured. I hope that sheds some light on things for you.

I stand corrected. It's teaser sweepers galore for 'The Y Morning Zoo', and 'Y-100' and 'Y-100.7' are now being used interchangeably on the air. I guess they are getting ready to return as simply 'Y-100'. PERFECT !What's Froggy's role going to be in the morning ?Kane was voicetracking the midday shift today. I had never heard him before.THE MAJOR

I am very glad to hear they're returning to simply "Y-100"! Someone in that building finally got some sense in their head! Here's an interesting thought: should Y bring in the Z100 jingle package as well? It would fit perfectly.

Interesting Fact # 100 - 'Y-100' would be 1 of only 2 CHR-POP stations in the great state of Florida (out of 15) that would not be identified by a '. (something)'. The other one - 'ISLAND-106' out of Panama City. I love jingles ! Why don't many stations have them anymore ? Surely there are legions of young men and women with nice singing voices out there that would love to work for an hour or so harmonizing various letter and number combinations.THE MAJOR

Most recently he was voicing nights when Chris Cruz wasn't on. Kane is the PD and PM drive host over at 93.3 WFLZ in Tampa. Solid talent. Hopefully the jock shifts will be straightened out soon.

Apparantly the front-runners for the PD gig at Y are Dan Mason from WAKS/Cleveland and Chase from The Beat/Tulsa. Anyone hear anything else?

YES - 96.5-KISS-FM Cleveland has been a consistent TOP 10 station for him. His playlist on KISS was very balanced - a nice combination of current pop, rock, urban contemporary, and hip hop - heavier on the latter two. Dance music was noticeably missing from it, so hopefully he'll study the Miami market before he officially takes over on June 01st and realize that (current) dance music needs to be reintroduced to our market - via Y-100. The first thing he can do is to reduce the number of spins Y-100 currently gives its biggest hits. I'll say it again. 120 to 125 spins per week is beyond excessive. If I were the P.D. I'd bring that down by half, but that's just me. I'd be happy if he brought it down to a more reasonable 90 to 95 spins per week. The second thing he can do is to fill the midday slot with a LIVE and LOCAL deejay. This voicetracking stunt during the day is getting on my nerves. Ashlee and Kane sound great on 93.3-FLZ. On Y-100 they sound like the're talking on a cell phone as they deejay. Item # 3 on Dan Mason's agenda - LIVE and LOCAL weekend warriors. There's some quality talent out there in search of a job.Josh C - I'm a regular reader of your blog now. Keep up the good work.THE MAJOR

The 'Y Morning Zoo' debuted this morning just before 6 AM on Y-100. Everyone introduced themselves to Miami, and Elvis even dedicated the new show to the spirit of Footy. The show then proceeded along. It was pretty entertaining, but they need to work out some obvious kinks (such as the local portions of the show). Also whenever Elvis calls on Froggy it sometimes takes him a good 5 seconds or so to respond (as if he's not always paying attention).Y-100 has also added some new rock-based pop hits to their playlist such as Staind's "Right Here" and Ashley Parker Angel's "Let U Go". It's about time !Ashlee and Kane voicetracked the midday slots. They still sound like they are talking on cell phones when they talk.THE MAJOR

I figured the local parts would be the biggest issue. Hopefully they can work that out. If this thing falls apart, that's the problem that's going to cause it.Good thing they've added rock... now if they would just put some dance back on the playlist... ;)As for the midday shifts, the bitrate settings are probably too low on the VT software... either that or they're using an ISDN and there's something seriously wrong with the line.
