Yee Haw! Get Ready For Bert, Nashville!

Bert Weiss and his merry band of morning folk is the new morning show on I-106!

I've caught The Bert Show a few times when waking up in Atlanta. The way I would describe it: four hours of celebrity worship. Lots of talk about celebs and talking to celebs, American Idol discussions, gossip, and the like. In fact, reminded me a lot of a sports talk station, just talking about celebs and their games instead of about sports figures and their games. Well, actually, reminded me even more of a preacher feature station, just preaching the gospel of celebrityism.

I heard the promo's for this today while listening (as it's the best Top 40 station in town...that's right, I said it, even to Cumulus, and according to many friends' facebook statuses I've seen, I'm not alone, regardless what ratings say). My first thought was, WHY!? They have 1 advantage over the competition...while Kid, Woody, and Jim are all talking or playing commercials in the morning, i106 is playing music! Apparently that's about to change so that Woody and Jim will talk and be funny, Kid will talk about celebrities, and now i106 will do the same as Kid Kraddick. The top 40 demographic doesn't want to hear dj's or talking! They want an iPod replacement whenever they don't have their iPod with them. The only exception I can think of is WRVW Butter's "bed checks."

Jan Jeffries "fires a shot." "GAME ON." Right. Better move 106.7 to 97.1 if you're going to "play."

I do like Bert Weiss. I don't know how that team will play in Nashville. I assume they'll be saying Q-100 and not talking about Nashville related topics. He can win friends by doing his charity work if be continues the tradition.

Bert is about the height of a 12 year old. Jan? I dunno. Maybe. Just reporting what he says about the big i news. I bet CC is shaking in their boots on this one. You guys are right, they're getting to talkative and the product will sound inferior to The River if it's piped in. (Which more and more it is vs. auto pilot wall to wall music) Agree the music is decent. It's changed a bit in the last 30 days. Overall, I would guess they'll hit a 1.8 this book. Then tank again.

I like Bert. He learned from one of the best when he was in DC: Jack Diamond. If it's all about entertaining, he should do well.

I worked with Bert in San Diego 100 years ago. I haven't kept track of his career but apparently he's doing well. Good on him. Who cares if he's vertically challenged?

As I wrote on the Atlanta board, all references to "Q100" will probably be forbidden during the live show; there will most likely be pre-recorded ID's of Bert saying "Q100" airing in Atlanta only, though...

It's not rocket science. Imus and Stern were the pioneers of station-based syndication, and that was a long time ago. I'm surprised more people don't do it.

How ironic would it be if they added a tall sidekick named Ernie to the show?

This is a good quality show with some creative. Too bad Nashville has nothing similar to offer on its own.

I thought this was gonna be Spew's first-ever posiitive post:
then he added the usual EVERYTHING ABOUT NASHVILLE RADIO SUCKS tag...so all is normal. whew!

Well, CR, you guys shakin in your boots after a full week of that thar Bert Show? Thinking River format change? Jan Jeffries must be still planning that sneak attack, cause if this board is any indication, still NO LISTENERS and still NO GAME (on or off). Like the Lakers last night. ;D

Good times, sir. Good times.

Tibbs...I found this quote on Access Atlanta:

i106 in Nashville is relatively new and faces an established top 40 station 107.5 The River with a long-time local morning show. Unless Cumulus spends a lot of bucks promoting the station and the Bert Show in Nashville, it could be a long slog. Through its first four days, only two people have called the Bert Show’s new 1-800 number from Nashville so far.

any questions?

2 callers? Ha, wow. I USED TO listen to i106 on the way to work some mornings if it was a commercial break on 94.7. I no longer care to listen to them in the morning at all. As I said before, should've just kept playing music. That was they're only advantage was everyone else was talking in the morning while they played music. I guarantee I'm not the only one that feels that way. Any time I've ridden in a car with someone they hit seek when a dj starts talking, NOT when music is on.

How long did it take i106 to add all the piped in shows, VTing, etc? I can't remember. A TRUE SIGN that a lot of the current vintage of radio management is not as good as two decades ago?

Change a format. Keep it lifeless for six months. Then when you "get around to it" add a synded morning and evening show? Used to be the new formats would come out ON FIRE. You knew what you got day one and it was exciting. I don't get it. Where is the wow factor? Nowhere.

Chris, you comment about only TWO listeners from Nashville calling in is priceless info. What an absolute joke.
