Yet Another Layoff

This time it's KXNT APD/morning show producer and sidekick Patrick DiFazio. It's really sad that so many good and talented people are losing their jobs,

Just wait until Tuesday. Several sources are claiming that Clear Channel is planning to fire 1000 people on Tuesday, when it will make less news...hope it's not true, but no one's immune...

IMUS in the Mourning, Imus in the Evening, Imus at supertime. Or they can play the lastest Bin Ladin tape on a loop. (Is he still around?)

Newsperson responds:

mred; I see that you like Imus in the morning. Can you tell me what you like about his show and what following he could attract in the market. It certainly is a good option for Las Vegas.

I live in the Bay Area and he is on a station in Santa Rosa and is delayed until 9:00 a.m. to Noon Pacific. During the 9:00 a.m. hour we hear his 6:00 a.m. hour at noon eastern so it is already 6-hours old. Much of the news is really old by then. I listen to the ABC news at 9:00 a.m. on KGO 810 and switch to 1350 KSRO at 9:06, then at 9:10 I hear Charles McCord with news that has already changed!

I am considering running him in a different market. I would take the feed from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The first hour would be his last hour live. The second hour at 7:00 a.m. is his 6:00 a.m. hour. So in every case except for the 6:00 a.m. live hour his program is 4-hours old on the west coast. In the situation with the Santa Rosa station his show is 6-hours old which is way too old to have news.

In Las Vegas a friend of mine is involved in an AM construction permit and I will ask him about Imus.

He does sound old, however he could build up a following and if the station promotes his right they could better focus their local talent on middays.

Your thoughts?

Newsperson

Imus has already been tried in Las Vegas. It was in the 90s, I believe on AM 840 back when they had the KVEG call letters. If he failed then he certainly would today.

When I worked in Ohio, we ran Imus live. As a show of content, it was OK, however since he forgot, or appears to forget his broadcast clock, we had a terrible time of running our own spots, and his. We were paying at the time 2500 per month for his show (that may have changed since then).

We were required to run 2 minutes of his spots each hour, and because he doesn't send down a tone, we had to have a board operator, just to keep things going.

It got killer ratings, of course that was 2003 through his firing from WFAN.
