Yet *ANOTHER* terrible move by the Eagle

In terms of Rock stations with great morning shows, I would be remiss if I did not mention Billy Madison at 99.5 KISS.

KEGL would be wise to pick up his show, or better yet, entice him to relocate to DFW.
That is a very good morning show: I am way out of their P1’s, but I do listen.

The labels were pushing Alternative/Grunge bands and giving no support to AOR exclusive bands by circa 1993. Bands such as Brother Cane and Cry of Love received a lot of airplay on AOR’s, but limited album sales and very little, if any cross airplay between AOR and Alternative.

Some of the bigger post grunge bands (Collective Soul, Korn, Godsmack) received Active and Alternative airplay initially.

The only new artist from that era I can recall that was pushed primarily by AOR that had staying power was Kenny Wayne Shepherd (and that was based on “Blue on Black”).

do you know why labels won’t invest? Are they cash strapped? It seems like such an easy fix

In my opinion there are 2 reasons...

1, I would say there isn't much of an ROI for record companies.

2, I wonder if newer artists actually chase recording contracts. Given that there are more ways for artists to get their product heard today, it's easier for artists to control their own destiny, and grow their fanbase organically.

Without knowing the prospective content or imaging elements behind it, it is impossible to say how effective or not such a rebrand would be.

"97.1 the Eagle" is damaged goods as a brand. I cannot fault iHM for ditching that brand, at least for a while, if that's what they choose to do. Would not shock me if it were to be resurrected, say, five years down the road.

It would be foolish to bring it back for a third time. After this iteration, I say this brand needs to be permanently buried, at least at 97.1.

I am also a subscriber to Lance and all I’ll say is that the rebrand is probably going to bomb. But I won’t say anything more specific out of respect. The details will come out soon enough and we can vent our true feelings then.

No matter what it is, it's gonna be lame.

Dallas radio in a nutshell:

*) Mexican
*) Old 70s & 80s stuff
*) Talk
*) Kiss

And that's it.

93.3 should be ROCK RIGHT NOW. This SECOND they should be switched to ROCK 93.3 - and they should be making fun of the Eagle once every 1/4 hour.

It's breath takingly painful.

You forgot the two strong country stations. And again, you're ignoring reality -- all over this nation, the demographic that has fed rock's popularity over the years has decided that rap and other rhythmic music connects with it more strongly than rock does, except for that "old stuff," which they respect, but only as a secondary listening choice. That is truth, as "breath takingly painful" as it may be to you and others still looking for a pulse in the rattling husk of rock.

Question anybody, (David). How popular is Classic Alternative?

Please don't forget the other way of arranging the numbers 9,1, and 7 on the dial. KXT doesn't play metal or hard rock but they do play something harder edged, usually punky, every once in a while, and it's usually something you don't hear all the time.

I've always thought the Eagle's music was lame. KNON has Hard Time Radio on Thursday nights. You probably get a wider playlist of hard rock in the four hours of Hard Time Radio than you do all week on the Eagle. Also, KTCU has a Saturday night hard rock show that also is way more adventurous than the Eagle.

I just wish our non comms got more attention. It's so much more fun to talk about the non comms.
