You could call me a 9--4--5 freak Pt. 1

I know recently there's been a lot of talk on this board about the new and improved Channel 9--4--5. I am officially a 9--4--5 freak with all of these great changes. I posted recently about wanting a Urban to come to the DYT and they've kind of came in and been a substitute. One for great top 40 in Dayton and one that also brings Hip-Hop & R&B like their HD2. However, I think their HD2 is crap but that's besides the point. Here are a few changes I've noticed:

1. Their RDS was changed recently (I.E. Channel. 945. Beyonce. Irreplace. Laceable.
Then it repeats. On commercial it showed 945 FM. Now it shows... (I.E. Channel. 9--4--5. Beyonce. Irreplace. Laceable. On commercial, 9--4--5 FM. They really want to bring out the 9--4--5.
2. They've cut back on a lot of the pop & rock which I thought they should've done from the beginning and go full-blown CHR/Rhythmic. A good CHR/Rhythmic like WLTO in Lexington or Wild 93.9 in Lima. Both kick butt and both of them do well in the ratings. WLTO is standing still as being #8 (TOP 10) in Lexington which is very well considering they are CHR/Rhythmic. Either way they are doing much better than 9--4-5 or Z93. Wild has always done very well. They are freakin' #3 in the ratings! If you are holding a 8 or higher you have nothing to worry about. Forever.
3. They have no slogan and that is one of the best moves they've made. Dayton's #1 For ALL THE HITS was getting old. I think they're in the process of doing some cool things so they want to drop the slogan for now. It's now "9--4--5, Channel 9--4--5, The 9--4--5. Channel945.com" The jingles don't have the slogan and neither do the jocks say it.
4. They run WDKF Englewood Dayton in the middle of commercials or before they hit a song.

Overall, 9--4--5 sounds a lot better. Drake is doing a great job. The only thing I would change is go full-blown Rhythmic leave the Pop/Rock for the LAME Z93. I guarentee the ratings would go up. You've already dropped the "ALL THE HITS". I see big things for this station.

Anybody wanna comment?

channel 945 is a dime-a-dozen clear channel rythmic leaning chr. they really aren't that entertaining the jocks, imo, are boring and seem to cater to a very young demographic. it really suprises me that they get so much attention on this board.

Heh. Well, I am a kid. I think I am going to try to go to Shamrock '07 to meet Drake who is the Music Director and tell him to flip it rhythmic, LOL. You have to admit.. with all the talk about stations flipping and what not (945 possibly being a predator) I listen for changes. So far they sound a bit more rhythmic. They may take it in baby steps.

945 sounds like they are rebuilding for big things. Well, as big as a6,00 watt station can do! But tell that to Kiss FM in Cincy. I see huge things to come also. E is doing better also.

I agree. 9--4--5 will kick butt if they go rhythmic-y like Wild and if they don't, they still will. I'd like The Beat to come back.

It's Clear Channel thugh, so the beat probably will never happen!

I guess the ratings weren't up to par, but then again, are they now?!!!

Wouldn`t it be amazing though if 9-4-5 did go back to THE BEAT? That station has never sounded anything close to or as good since then. I hear people say alllllll the time, "TIMES HAVE CHANGED". Times haven`t changed, this is still a money and ratings driven business that we`re talking about here. The only thing that has changed is the way these CORPORATE people think, and it`s safe to say that they DON`T think about us, THE LISTENER. The people that they want to support them, they simply pay NOOOOOOOO attention to. 9-4-5 if they had the.....GUTS could sweep the streets with HOT 102.9 and as terrible as Z sounds they wouldn`t even be of any concern. In `96 94.5 THE BEAT came along and simply mopped up the city with U92. Now, U92 back then as the strong URBAN here in Dayton was the best thing since WDAO-FM when it was 107.7 until 1996 when THE BEAT hit the airwaves. If you were a red blooded american NO MATTER WHAT COLOR YOU ARE living in Dayton back then, wether it was good or bad, you couldn`t breathe in Dayton without mentioning 94.5 THE BEAT and we all know, ALL PUBLICITY IS GOOD PUBLICITY. They were ground breaking every single day, they had the guts & the cahones to go after the POWER HOUSE in Dayton which was U92 and destroyed them. Now, some may say THE BEAT didn`t do well by numbers and thats what the company looks for, this is true, the company looks for the numbers, but wouldn`t it make since for the company to also look @ how well their own station is accepted by the community? When I say community I`m not just thinking the URBAN community because THE BEAT went after EEEEEVVVRRRYYYOONNNEEE and got them so quick that it spun U92`s head and they didn`t know what to do. Ever since 94.5 changed from being THE BEAT they have taking the BLUE pill, meaning the company changed, ok, I understand that, I also truely understand the meaning of the trilogy "THE MATRIX" but that`s the corporate world as a whole. If anyone from 9-4-5 reads this, take a listen to the last and final words of LUDACRIS` song "RUNAWAY LOVE".....OPEN YOUR MIINNNNNDDDDDD!!!

Show me a book where the beat ever beat U-92? Never has. Infact, 94.5 as a station has only beat Z-93 1 time persons 12+, and that was when they were KISS FM. Have you guys checked out there HD@ lately? It sounds so much better. They added like 30 new songs or something like that.

Did I push a button with you Jaddy5400? LOL ;D Whoaaaaaa buddy, I`m only speaking from a listeners perspective and also a person who`s FROM Dayton, OH. Are you from this city or grow up here and did you even hear what the station used to sound like or did back then? Just a tad bit of FYI, I am from Dayton and those from here would only know the TRUTH about 94.5 . Sorry if I bothered you with that tad bit of TRUTH. Wow, I guess that saying is true huh, (THE TRUTH HURTS). LOL ;D Have a nice day all.

BTW, my mistake... LUDACRIS doesn`t say OPEN YOUR MIND, he says "OPEN YOUR EYESSSSSSSS". Proves my point even more, bye everyone. LOL

None the less, 9-4-5 is sounding a heck of a lot better than it has in a loonnnngggggg time. I applaude this Drake guy and his efforts, now it`s only a matter of time to see what they`re gonna do with this new found sound. Going completely rhythmic would be the best thing as a listener in my opinion. So now, let`s see if the corporate world would EVER listen to their patrons. What I`m trying to figure out is.... If the public is begging for something from a radio station and basically saying, "IF YOU DO THIS.... WE`LL SUPPORT YOU THRU EVRYTHING YOU WANT US TO" why wouldn`t that radio station go ahead in that direction?

I agree with Public. 9-4-5 should go rhythmic like Wild 93-9. If they had that sound they might actually kick some butt. Wild 93-9 is putting out BIG numbers each trend. I wish Drake would OPEN HIS EYESSSSSSS.

You ain't new to this bro. You are more schooled to the game at 14, than most of these guys are at 35! Question is, are you going to stay with it? If so, then you'll be a great PD someday.
