You MUST drink coffee!

At the first station where I ever worked overnight, I drank coffee singles. This was the early '90s, and they weren't available in Tennessee yet, so I bought them in Kentucky. I drank a cup when I first arrived, and another cup about an hour or so later, and I was good for the night. It was only a six-hour shift.

Years later, at my most recent overnight gig, where I worked for 10 years, I went to the other extreme, and just slept through the shift. We had syndicated programming, so it was possible to do that.

I remember that after the last coffee drinker left that station, mold started growing in the coffee pot! Gross! :-X Another coffee drinker at that station would pour the old coffee into the toilet, leading our GM to think that someone there had diarrhea!

Coffee is not my choice for caffeine. My beverages of choice: Coca-Cola or Mellow Yellow. Used to smoke as well, but haven't for about 10 years. Had a friend in the business who's morning routine included cola AND coffee.

Growing up, I loved the smell of coffee in the mornings. My parents were avid coffee drinkers. I tasted it and I did not like it at all. The 1st and 2rd station I worked for were daytimers. The 2nd one signed off at midnight. By the time I got to the 4th station (1590 KIKN Corpus Christi) I was on the all night shift. Oh boy! Now I was faced with trying to stay awake and get my bod to react. I tried coffee with lots of sugar and cream, some cream and some sugar, etc. Finally, after trying various combination's, I settled on coffee with just creamer.

I learned to embrace and love coffee. It never has made me jittery. Now, I must leave to get a cup.

Board op response is too slow without lots of coffee. Every element should just about step on the heels of the preceding element, if not actually doing so. The appropriate space is technically .125 seconds, but coffee helps them hit it just right.

I paper- filter drip super black oily fine ground expresso roast two times through. I drink it black, any temp.
Any coffee which does not totally obscure the white bottom of a cup at one inch is merely brown water.
I'd never waste money in a coffee machine at work. I depend on Arizony Southern Sweet Tea in huge cans for $1.

Wanna know what's hazardous? Drinking Dr. Pepper while on the air. Makes you want to "belch" everytime you open the mic!

Belchin' Radio 1590, giving you free "Belch" Dr. Pepper and Belch-in' waffles all weekend long.. Call when you hear the "Belch" on you AM radio.....

I come down on the cold caffeine side of this issue. I never was a coffee drinker. LOVE the smell of it. Can't stand the taste.

Yes, belching on air is an issue. I always made sure I was all belched out before I cracked the mike.

That's me to a 'T'. It's one of the most heavenly smells, but like beer, to my taste buds it's just plain nasty.

We had a guy in Owensboro who like orange Crush and orange Tylenol mixed. I can't tell you how many guys were tanked not cranked over the years. Also in Owensboro Jim O would always have a paper bag with his drink in it. His eyes were always red but he was coherent.

I think we're the only station around that doesn't supply coffee for the staff. Or clients that come in. I always assumed that was a "kindness" that we offered. I'm surprised we don't charge for tap water.

Bill Bailey of WAKY fame once worked for a station in Salt Lake City that was owned by some Mormons. They would not allow him to drink coffee, so he resorted to drinking hot bullion!

Are you old enough to remember the pay toilets in the White Castles? Hope that doesn't give your station any ideas!

It's a "Johnny Cash" weekend with free toilet tokens for White Castle Restrooms, all weekend long...

I know what you're getting at, but with the combination you've described it sounds like a Jimi Hendrix weekend.
