We all know those classic weekend jocks that have been staples in your lives for many years. Amazing broadcasters like Jim Pastrick (no longer weekends, but I loved it when he was on 97Rock, Brian J. Walker) the list goes on. But has anyone who is new to the talant pool been impressing you? 98.5, 106.5, and 103.3 all have new young talant on there weekends, has anyone impressed you or are we doomed for the future?

Pretty doomed. That summation isn't necessarily due to the individuals themselves, it's the venues and the lack of mentoring from managerial types. Admittedly, I don't listen to a lot of local radio anymore. As far as music is concerned, today's tunes just don't do it for me. Not because I'm old and don't like "loud" music. Hardly. I rock out. Today's music is just too boring i.e. Shitney Spears and her ilk. Radio doesn't expose new, real talent. Everything is sanitized for your protection. When I do listen to local radio, it's mostly news and talk. Truthfully, I'd rather listen to this format online as it is more intelligent and provacative. My .02

I can't believe I'm sitting here in Buffalo. The only town where you can have a good time without enjoying yourself.

Nice line.

But there are some good 'uns out there laboring in the fields who deserve some recognition. Problem is, they don't get a lot of exposure on the air and when they are on the air, they're part of a miasma of big-voiced, high impact sweepers and jingles, reading liners and playing ten in a row.

Wait a minute, I think I just described FM music radio in general.

Must be we recognize the old guard guys simply because they've been around so long. Who's the guy on Jack... oh, that's right, there is no guy (or woman) on Jack.

Hey, a lot of us older guys don't get a lot of exposure on the air either. I run into people all the time(like last night for instance) who remember me(or my voice) from my live radio days from years ago and they ask me why someone with my voice isn't on the radio anymore - standard answer: no gigs. Automation, ageism(my former employers could have moved me to one of their other stations when they eliminated my position, but alas, they did not. They seem to have a lot of young people on the air - they're probably making the same money that I made, but I guess if you're trying to get listeners in their 20s, 30s and early 40s, you can't have old guys in their 50s doing public appearances. We also don't make good ass kissers).

As far as you people, there's always talented people coming up the ranks in all human endeavors. But if the talent isn't given the exposure by the corporate music and broadcast industries, well then you're not going to hear the talent.

Thanks, it's fitting and the way I feel. Corporations + music industry= boring Music is about rebellion but I digress...

True. Today's younguns are more button pushers than there are talent. Also, Buffalo used to be a market to aspire to. You had to start in the podunk places and work your way *up* to Bflo. Now it's a starting place.
