Your 2010 Wish List?

KGO will be extremely tough, as it has a north-south pattern, protecting WGY.

I agree, it would be very tough. You would need excellent propagation to get that signal from SFO to MI and enough juice to punch through WGY, which is very strong there most nights.

However, I will say that KGO's pattern isn't nearly as tight as KCBS' pattern for some reason and I was able to pick up KGO in the Salt Lake City area and in SW Wyoming pretty much every night. Many nights, it actually came in quite well - even on a cheaper radio. On the other hand, KCBS was audible on a good night but very much swimming with the background noise. Much weaker than KGO, despite the fact that graphical portrayals of their respective directional patterns make them appear to be about the same.

KGO's east/west pattern is very tight. When I was in Hawaii last year I couldn't hear it at all and 810 was totally clear. I could occasionally hear a weak KCBS.

A bit off the topic.
1. A Perseus SDR
2. 3 days on the Carolina Coast for some night time DXing without family obligations
3. 10 days on a large uninhabited Pacific island with three DX friends of my choice, an electrical generator, several beverage antennas and my new Perseus SDR.
4. KFI loud and clear just as I tune 640 for a little AM DX, and not too late in the evening either.
5. All Cuban stations to shut down during my next visit to the Keys.
6. A trip to St. Helena or the Azores for a little DXing Atlantic style.
7. A return to 1963, this time with my Drake R8B and a couple of Wellbrook antennas.
8. Same as 7, except any year that WLW was full time at 500 KW non directional.
9. Same except 1929.

I don't really need any more than that. Someone else can have 10.

Maybe it's tight to the west, but not so much directly to the east. I'm telling you, it comes in quite regularly in Salt Lake at night - a good 700 miles away to the ENE.

Two more to put in the wish list

530: Radio Encicopedia, Cuba
570: Radio Reloj, Cuba (if I can just get the "RR" CW, I'd be excited!! Not yet, best I can do is local KVI and KCFJ Alturas, CA at sunset.)

I don't ask for much, nor do I have fancy equipment, but here goes. A lot of these I have heard in other parts of the country but not Ohio ...
570 - I never have heard Radio Reloj here in Ohio, but in Texas it was a regular. Never heard it on 790 either.
640 - KFI
680 - KNBR
740 - KTRH to for some reason be omni-directional or on day pattern and get here just for a minute or two. Not banking on this one!
800 - XEROK
900 - Mexico City
1200 - WOAI. Been forever since I've heard it here.
1700 - KVNS. Haven't heard it through the slop yet up here; the only musical station I've heard here carries gospel or something, definitely not oldies.

I am not thinking I'll hear much from Mexico. In my experience, even by the time you get to Memphis heading up from the south there's a lot less Spanish on the dial than in Texas. Frankly I am happy being able to hear all the northern stations I missed getting in Texas.

Here in Northern Illinois, XEW 900 Mexico City used to be a regular. Haven't tried lately. XEROK used to come in occasionally and WOAI is back now that WRTO has powered down at night--at least temporarily.

I had XEROK very faintly here back in the mid-90s, and WOAI always used to make it in. Since then, a low-powered traffic station has gone on the air in Columbus. 1200 is either jumble or hash (1210 from Philly maybe?) anymore here.
I am not sure I've ever heard a Mexican station here. Never heard Spanish on 730 or 900, and 1050 from Monterrey is covered by Toronto.

I really wouldn't count on getting that one because they appear to send their signal out into the Gulf to protect CFMZ, KCBS, and KRMG.

The trick with getting that is being able to listen for long periods of time. It's often completely absent here and then, out of the blue, it pops in and can often be very strong to the point where it's the only station. Then without notice, it fades and the South Florida station booms in. I guarantee that you will hear it if you have the time to listen long enough.

I got one of these wishes last night DXing in St. Marys, Ohio ... WOAI came in. It wasn't terribly strong, but it was listenable under WOWO's hash. Maybe it's because my grandmother's house doesn't have as much electrical interference as mine or her radio could be better, but Monday night was an excellent DXing night. A ton of stations coming in very well, including WBAP and KOA. But it's close enough to Cincinnati that WLW obliterates WOR.

I know this is 3 weeks after New Year's but I'll go ahead and spell out my wishlist.

From East Moline, Illinois (Quad Cities USA), this is my 2010 (and beyond) wishlist:

640- KFI Los Angeles, CA
*660- KTNN Window Rock, AZ
*670- KBOI Boise, ID
680- KNBR San Francisco, CA
700- KALL North Salt Lake City, UT
710- KIRO Seattle, WA and KSPN Los Angeles, CA
*720- KDWN Las Vegas, NV (also, KFIR Sweet Home, OR, WRZN Hernando, FL, and several daytimers on 720 in the eastern U.S. would do)
740- KCBS San Francisco, CA
760- KFMB San Diego, CA
*770- KKOB Albuquerque, NM
*780- KKOH Reno, NV
790- KABC Los Angeles, CA (highly unlikely as it's only 5 kW and there are plenty of other stations closer by creating a "regional mess" although KABC does use the same 5 kW ND pattern unlimited time (both day and night))
810- KGO San Francisco, CA (I often hear WHB K.C. during SR and SS skip while it's on daytime power and pattern and WGY Schenectady, NY is a regular here almost every night)
830- KLAA- Orange, CA (Los Angeles)
840- KXNT- Las Vegas, NV
850- WKNR Cleveland, OH, WTAR Norfolk, VA, WEEI Boston, MA, and WREF Ridgefield, CT (the last one is daytime only to protect the nighttime groundwave coverage of the other three stations and the nighttime skywave coverage of KOA Denver, Co; however, WREF and the others are well outside the 750 mile raius of KOA's protected skywave service area)
870- KPRM Park Rapids, MN (my best bet on this one would have to be SR or SS skip while it's still on its 25 kW daytime signal; its nighttime signal is only 1 kW and probably nulled in this direction to protect WWL New Orleans, LA.)
*890- KDXU St. George, UT
910- KWDZ Salt Lake City, UT (probably asking for a bit much as this is a regional channel and well over 1000 miles away)
950- WNTD Chicago, IL, WWJ Detroit, MI, WNZZ Montgomery, AL, WTLN Orlando, FL, and KJR Seattle, WA.
970- WFLA Tampa, FL (WFLA has a respectable amount of power, 25 kW day and 11 kW night)
980- KFWB Los Angeles, CA (probably won't happen from here)
1000- KOMO Seattle, WA
1010- WINS New York, NY
*1020- KCKN Roswell, NM
*1030- KTWO Casper, WY
1040- WYSL Avon, NY
1050- WEPN New York, NY
1070- KNX Los Angeles, CA (sounds like I at least have a shot at this one after several people on this board catching it from the east coast)
1080- KRLD Dallas, TX, WTIC Hartford, CT, and KFXX Portland, OR
1090- WBAL Baltimore, MD
*1100- KNZZ Grand Junction, CO and KFAX San Francisco, CA
1110- WBT Charlotte, NC
*1120- KPNW Eugene, OR
1130- KFAN Minneapolis, MN, WISN Milwaukee, WI, WDFN Detroit, MI, and KSDO San Diego, CA
1170- KCBQ San Diego, CA, KLOK San Jose, CA, and KPUG Bellingham, WA (those are all difficult as KJOC Davenport, IA on 1170 is a local here and the three afforementioned pacific coast 1170's would have to be on daytime pattern and/or power at night (only one at a time), combined with the absence of interference from I-B clears KFAQ Tulsa, OK, and WWVA Wheeling, WV, and KJOC itself would quite possibly have to be off the air as well in order to accomplish any of the afforementioned pacific coast 1170's from here)
*1180- KOFI Kalispell, MT
1190- KEX Portland, OR
*1210- KGYN Guymon, OK
1230- WJBC Bloomington, IL and/or KFJB Marshalltown, IA (both would be quite possible if it weren't for local WFXN Moline, IL as well as the graveyard mess on this channel at night)
1240- KBIZ Ottumwa, IA (would be possible if it weren't for graveyard mess, adjacent channel splatter from WFXN, and other possible factors)
1270- WWCA Gary, IN, WXYT Detroit, MI, KWEB Rochester, MN, and WWWI Baxter, MN (Brainerd) (note that as I have stated in the past on the "AM Band" boards I started in December 2009, I do have a local on this channel; WKBF Rock Island, IL, which has its towers near my location, and WKBF would need to be on either super-reduced power or off-the-air in order to hear anything else on the 1270 kHz channel)
1340- WJOL Joliet, IL, WSOY Decatur, IL, WXFN Muncie, IN, and KROC Rochester, MN (this is another local ("graveyard") channel and nearby KROS Clinton, IA, which has a reasonably good signal during the day, often gets buried in the graveyard mess at night, but is sometimes just on top of the graveyard mess. The others listed above are possible under the "Right" conditions but are tough catches as they are all usually buried in the graveyard mess)
1400- KADR Elkader, IA (normally all I hear is WGIL Galesburg, IL in the day and GY mess at night; however, I just know KADR is possible under the "right" conditions, at night or SR or SS skip (Elkader is only a little over 100 air miles northwest of my location))
1450- KATE Albert Lea, MN, KFIZ Fon Du Lac, WI; anything other than nearby WKEI Kewanee, IL and KMRY Cedar Rapids, IA for a change would be acceptable
1490- WGEZ Beloit, WI, WPNA Oak Park, IL (Chicago), KXLQ Indianola, IA, KRIB Mason City, IA, WDAN Danville, IL, and WZOE Princeton, IL.
1500- WFED Washington, D.C.
1510- KGA Spokane, WA
1520- WWKB Buffalo, NY (this one will probably be difficult as theirr directional pattern nulling the west is the same during the day as at night. Will need a good opening on the frequency and awesome conditions that favor WWKB. Has anybody else in the midwest, plains, or the western states ever picked up WWKB (formerly WKBW)?)
1530- KFBK Sacramento, CA
1540- WDCD Albany, NY (perhaps this is what sometimes interferes with KXEL at night??)
1560- KNZR Bakersfield, CA
1620- KOZN Bellevue, NE, WDND South Bend, IN, WNRP Pensacola, FL, KSMH West Sacramento, CA (Sacramento), and WTAW College Station, TX
1630- CHYW Ottawa, ON, KKGM Fort Worth, TX, KRND Fox Farm, WY, and WRDW Augusta, GA
1640- KBJA Sandy, UT, KDIA Vallejo, CA, KDZR Lake Oswego, OR, KFXY Enid, OK, and WTNI Biloxi, MS (I have already heard WKSH Sussex/Milwaukee, WI)
1650- KFOX Torrance, CA (Los Angeles), KBJD Denver, CO, KSVE El Paso, TX, WHKT Portsmouth, VA, CJRS Montreal, QC, and CINA Mississauga, ON
1660- KRZI Waco, TX, KTIQ Merced, CA, KXOL Brigham City, UT, KXTR Kansas City, KS, WBCN Charlotte, NC, WCNZ Marco Island, FL, WGIT Canovanas, PR, and WWRU Jersey City, NJ
1670- KHPY Moreno Valley, CA, KNRO Redding, CA, and WFSM Dry Branch, GA (the other one, WTDY Madison, WI, is obviously the closest and most likely from my location)
1680- This one will be difficult with the new local TIS that is now on the air on this channel. Any of the six existing broadcast stations in the continental U.S.A. will do.
1690- Anything in the US and Canada other than nearby WVON Berwyn, IL (Chicago)
1700- WEUP Huntsville, AL, KVNS Brownsville, TX, KKLF Richardson, TX, and XEPE Tecate, BC (Mexico)

*Indicates a Class II-A ("breakdown") clear-channel station in the west which protects a Class I-A clear-channel counterpart in the east. So far, the only one I've heard in KRVN Lexington, NE on 880 kHz. I just know it would be possible to hear 1210 KGYN, 770 KKOB, 1020 KCKN, and 1030 KTWO during SR or SS skip (or even nighttime if switch isn't flipped) while they're still on daytime pattern, and under the right conditions. Those stations aren't all that much further away than KRVN (the closest II-A station to me). Also, I understand that people on this board from the Chicago and Memphis areas have heard KTNN from Window Rock, AZ on 660 kHz.

Well, I finally got the opportunity to knock KTNN off my wishlist this morning. At 1:51 AM Central Daylight Time, I was able to ID AM 660 with the call letters "K-T-N-N." Even before the ID, I heard some music that gace me the clue that it was KTNN. The music was the beating of drums, etc., and there appeared to be some country music mixed in at times as well. Surprisingly not too much interference from NYC's WFAN and the only really objectionable interference was the soviet jammer from WSCR 670 Chicago. If only the FCC would do away with AM IBOC permanently. Fortunately, the hash from WSCR wasn't too severe and I was able to clearly ID KTNN very early this morning.

I'm listening to AM more

I got it on AM880..I'm from Vallejo

I'm hearing Country the signal is very weak

I can't get a dam ID on it..KKMC Gonzales, CA is in the way at 880

I just lost it :(

Eather being

KHCM 880 AM Honolulu, HI

or

CKLQ 880 AM Brandon, MB

If you are hearing country on 880 at night, it's most likely from MB. I think the Hawaiian 880 may be programming in Chinese.

I want to get AM Stations like from NYC, Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Minnesota from Vallejo in the Summer Times

I think this will take a lot of patience to hear any Chicago, Minnesota and anywhere else in the Midwest and you may not be able to hear any NYC at all. I was in Oregon for a rather short period of time 3 years ago and the farthest station I heard was up in Manitoba (I forgot what station I heard), with only a CCRadioSW radio (from ccrane.com) with only its ferrite bar antenna inside.
