"From one old road dog to another, unshielded CAT-5 works just fine for line level balanced audio circuits in the studio. In fact, the lack of a shield makes ground loops a lot harder to create. I was not a believer at first, but Steve Lampin, of Belden fame, got me to try it. He was right...." I've got a whole building full of CAT 6 multipair and single pair cross-connects for line-level audio. I have 0 problems with crosstalk, hums, or interference. I'm am truely amazed but have been nothing but happy with it. None of the line-level audio is shielded. Coming from the "old school" it's difficult to accept, accept that it works so flawlessly.
