(YOUR IDEAS) FOR ??? 97.7

Let's say Entercom want to do something with 97.7? Tell us (Your Ideas) If you have more, better. Tell us your programming ideas. If you disagree with the previous person, please give (good advise) and (good words)
My idea would be (Urban AC/HOT AC) Unique for Boston area

If they want to return (Mike FM) someehere else, they should do like this, ;D THIS IS EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! ;D

I have one more idea, but I will give you all a turn.
Thank you for your time

cause some people assumed "Mike FM" might land somwehere else?

Anyways, you can hear "HOT AC" Dial-Global from B 101.7 Oceanview, De. The free request number for HOT AC Dial-Global is 1-800-595-7525
You can also hear them on Z 93 Yuma, Arizona

Anyways, that is my first idea

And yours, supposed 97.7 would change?

97.7 is simulcasting AAF because Ent. feels they can make money with it and help get the signal into Boston. I suppose Mike 93.7 fans can try to get Ent. to put the station there; otherwise prob no change

Hot AC prob would have been tried before and maybe they'd consider it but I'd think they'd want to stay with what they have. They are telling Mike 93.7 listeners if you want rock, go to WAAF at 107.3 and 97.7, but if you want sports/Sox etc
stay with the new WEEI 93.7

Mike's demise: good news for WROR, WZLX,. etc and other stations too

Mike's demise means we lose a station that does NOT go all-Christmas on November 1st (or whatever day WODS and WROR choose this year).

I just want to make sure I have this right... you want a station in a top 10 media market to run syndicated fare off the bird... a syndicated format that's having a bit of an identity crisis, and you want it to go up against Mix?

Dial-Global is a great service for small market and no market stations. It has no place in Boston.

ok, if not Dial-Global, why not do like (Mike FM) but in this case, this time

Ok, another idea might be?

Put "Funkytown" there. Make it "Funkytown 97.7"
In this case
-Week-
Midnight-6am Continuous Music

5pm-7pm "Sol Kafe" Radioexpress.com

If not Dial-Global, do like this.

:D But where's the Voice of Russia or RFO? :D

The best you all can come up with is a format-in-a-can? This is a major market signal - not some 5,000 watt stick halfway between Topeka and Wichita! I sure hope you people don't have programming jobs in the radio biz.

It might be a good time to reconsider a return to Urban AC as WBOT. Program it similar to WRKS/New York or WYBC/New Haven. Let's fill the format holes in the area rather than put on another simulcast.

Jacko

in that case, even if they don't want to use Radio Host, put on "The Touch" (Citadel Media Networks) 24/7 Format. And put some syndicated Urban AC shows on the weekend

If they don't want to do that, then they can put on "Funkytown 97.7"
Funkytown 97.7
-Week-

They can do like that? That might work

Entercom put WAAF on 97.7 to broaden the signal of 107.3...apparently 'AAF made them money. So did
Mike, and WEEI. Supposedly in one demo (see another thread) "Mike" actually went from #11 to #7
in one demo last period--tying them with WAAF (in that demo). Here are the facts:

--WAAF gets ratings and makes them money. 97.7 gets the signal into town.

--Mike made them money too, in a good demo, but WEEI needed a place to land on FM

--WEEI couldn't stay on the interference-laden, tough to get AM signal. People wanted a clearer signal
and many people these days prefer to listen to FM. 98.5 made its debut 2 yrs ago and is a solid
contender. You don't send a Little Leaguer up to the plate to face a major league pitcher. You send
a major league batter up to face him. The 850 signal was a liability. Now they're even, though the 98.5
signal is based a bit closer to Boston. Still, 93.7 combined with the other WEEI signals can cover a lot of ground.

--The Red Sox contract cost Entercom big bucks. They need to make their money back and profit.

In essence, the format Entercom wants for 97.7 is what they have, WAAF. If they decided to dump it
most likely Mike would be perfect for them. Yes, even though "we play everything" means basically
they play a mass appeal rock/some dance/R&B format. It makes them money. It would be the fallback,
but WAAF is the main target of what they'd like to play.

Again to quote that first episode of WKRP in Cincinnatti:
"Young man this radio station is a business. It is not here for your personal listening pleasure."

In other words, a station runs a format that appeals to the most people, in desirable demos. Some
people might like classic country or hardcore punk or Caribbean, but there aren't enough of them
for the station to make the most money possible. You don't take an expensive radio station and put
something on that few people will listen to. Sadly, if you can't find what you like on the dial you may have
to resort to spending a little $$ yourself on satellite radio, HD, or play your mp3 player with your
own choices. Would I like 97.7 to run All Blues (like WZLX-HD 2 Radio Mojo, or BB King's Bluesville on XM does?) Sure, I'd like that choice. Would it make Entercom as much money as they make now with WAAF
on 97.7?

No.

So if I'm working as a bigwig for Entercom, either at the sneaker building or in their Bala Cynwyd, PA HQ, and they ask, "Bob, what should we do with WKAF 97.7?" my answer would be, paying more attention to profit than to my own musical tastes:

"Keep it the same. It makes money."

only thing you're wrong about is 97.7 can not be heard (inside Boston) It does come in outside Boston (Northshore) as far as Ipswich, Ma, the signal is bad but still listennable, I was listenning from a walkman. Same as inside Boston. It comes in as far as Downtown Crossing, it does not come in Back Bay, fenway, Comm Ave, anywhere (Inside Boston) As I'm getting closer to Brighton Center, I pick it up a tiny bit as well as near new Balance Building. It comes in parts of Dorchester.
Basicly, it does not come in on a walkman (anywhere) inside Boston, (ANY) walkman, new and old walkmans, MP walkmans, HD walkman, new and OLD. It might be the same or different if you live or work there.
Driing in a car with a good antanna it comes in
But using a walkman, it does not come in on a walkman inside Boston same with 93.7

How many times you all said "You can't fix what ain't broke"
Now look
93.7 changed

It's not for me, it's for the listenners

I'd personnally listen to Mia 1430am mostly on my free time. It's not for me.

I give ideas to give good ideas

I have picked up 97.7 on the North Shore in my car. Also picked up here in Beverly on my HD Radio
portable (and WEEI was, and maybe still is, on the HD2). I don't know how well 97.7 does in Boston
but allegedly they did it to help WAAF's signal in Boston

As usual take radio-locator.com's maps with a grain or a bunch of salt but here is allegedly what they can
reach from their tower on Great Blue Hill
http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WKAF&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

The red circle, primary signal, seems to reach from Lynn down to the halfway point between Brockton and Taunton, then out to Framingham. Purple circle--distant (but not fringe) from approx. Ipswich down to
almost Providence. The blue circle is fringe signal.

WAAF
http://radio-locator.com/pats/WAAF_FM_LU.gif

Based in Worc., the red line reaches the halfway point between Framingham and Boston. WKAF 97.7 helps them. As usual, it depends where you are and whether you're listening on a Walkman, car stereo,
or a receiver with antenna (kind of like the "ribbon" antenna I have for my own receiver)

Car stereos with whip antennas may do better. Though to be honest I have seen some car antennae
that look like little squat devices, not so much the traditional "whip"

107.3 doesn't come in worth a damn in the city proper. They need 97.7 to fill in the area and have any hope to compete with the other rock stations.

93.7, while outside the city, is hardly the rimshot that either WPLM or WXRV are. The power is high enough with a good line of sight to Boston that it comes in well across the city.

Leave 97.7 the WAAF relay, but lease out the HD-2 of 97.7 to the people that run "the Touch" on the condition that they shut down the analog pirate station. Lease it to them for free. Let them supply the programming, talent, etc, from their own studios. Entercom sells and keeps the revenue from two spots an hour, the Touch people keep the rest of the avails.

Hey its better than a throwaway HD-2 format.
