(YOUR IDEAS) FOR ??? 97.7

HHH an excellent idea. If costs to install IBOC were lower WMBR, WHRB, WZBC,WXRV, WPLM,WFNX WXLO could lease out HD2 and HD3 signals to small colleges or other community groups.

I have picked up 97.7 on the North Shore in my car. Also picked up here in Beverly on my HD Radio
portable (and WEEI was, and maybe still is, on the HD2). I don't know how well 97.7 does in Boston
but allegedly they did it to help WAAF's signal in Boston

WKAF 97.7 comes in fine right in the city on my Insignia HD portable. I believe that the Insignia that Lauro claims he bought was defective from what he has described. It also comes in fine on my car stereo all over Boston and the adjacent cities, and in perfect HD at my apartment in Somerville.

Leave 97.7 the WAAF relay, but lease out the HD-2 of 97.7 to the people that run "the Touch" on the condition that they shut down the analog pirate station. Lease it to them for free. Let them supply the programming, talent, etc, from their own studios. Entercom sells and keeps the revenue from two spots an hour, the Touch people keep the rest of the avails.

Hey its better than a throwaway HD-2 format.

Where are the potential listeners in the city going to get HD radios now that Best Buy and Radio Shack has taken them off the shelves? Best Buy may still stock the Insignia personal HD portable, but everything else HD sold at fire sale prices at both stores to clear them out earlier this year. Radio Shack's were selling an Auvio home component AM-FM HD tuner that was originally over $100 for only $30!

Considering all the times they run ads plugging HD...and now it's tough to get one (BB only stocking one portable model, RS clearance sale of theirs...) Maybe people can get em online though--amazon? Ebay?
(The HD board mentioned even the new portable model could be had at a bargain price thru latter)

I like HHH idea as well.
Look at Hot 92 in LA, they have "Slow Jams Radio" on their HD 2 station
That came briefly on 1480am in Hartford, Ct area. Maybe it was 1420am, I forgot, I remember listenning to Slow Jams Radio on my way to Amherst one time. Or maybe it was 1230am?, one of them I heard it on.

It could of been either 1480 or 1230 in Hartford, CT see below:

In 2004 the now-defunct Mega Broadcasting sold Spanish Tropical WLAT 910 (New Britain, CT) and WNEZ 1230 (Manchester, CT) to a new outfit called Freedom Communications of Connecticut for $3.4 million. (No connection to Freedom Broadcasting that owned Channel 6 in Providence). They made Richard Weaver-Bey (then owner of WKND 1480 Windsor) one of the big-wigs with Freedom and they took over his WKND, which was R&B Hits and R&B Oldies, though the station remained licensed to his company. During the summer of 2004 they moved the WKND calls and R&B Hits and Oldies format down the dial to 1230 AM. (They were running promos the new 24 Hour, Twice the power WKND AM 1230, 1230 being 1000 watts day and night and 1480 being a 500 watt daytime). 1480 briefly went Gospel as "Heaven 1480" but eventually became Spanish Oldies WNEZ "LA X 1480." Anyway Weaver-Bey's relationship with the other partners in Freedom went South. He sued them and Freedom ended up in receivership. The receiver put WKND back on 1480 and WNEZ back on 1230, this time with a Spanish Variety format including Music and Talk. The Gois Family ended up buying WLAT 910 and WNEZ 1230. They also began programming WKND 1480. They ended up buying WKND 1480 outright after Richard Weaver-Bey passed away. The Gois family improved WKND's technical issues, which included frequency drift (it was reported they were at times on 1482 AM rather than 1480), fixed the 500 watt daytime signal to make it go out farther, and made use of the flea-powered night signal. Today WKND 1480 is still R&B Hits and R&B Oldies, but also features several blocks of Gospel Music.

one more idea
WRKO 97.7
But in this case, for now
-The only changes-
Noon-3
3p-6p < America's Radio News Network (Talk Radio Networks)
6p-9p
For now that's the only difference, copy the rest of WRKO on 97.7 and 680am

Entercom's main focus is shoring up WAAF--that is, they have the 97.7 to bring the signal better into
Boston. WRKO has been declining in ratings what with PPM and who knows, they could lose Howie in a year
or so. They may limp on with talk radio but I would think Ent.would rather have AAF on 97.7; a second choice would have been to put Mike there (it did get ratings and billing) and maybe WRKO would be a third.
If anything RKO's AM signal--despite all the interference problems--is pretty solid--except to the west
after dark, of course. Maybe if RKO had ANOTHER FM to put RKO on--for example, suppose Greater
sold WBOS to Entercom. Then yes, you could maybe have "WRKO-FM 92.9"...

The late sunrises may make it tough for people out west to pick up the start of their morning show, but then it's better.
The morning show, Ingraham, midday shows, and most of Howie can be received well. They have WCRN
to help them out west after sunset (earlier sunsets coming). Then they just do syndie with the rest of
the lineup--Savage, Doyle, Red Eye. Do they want to put it on FM just to help those shows? Remember a
few yrs ago RKO was considered the flagship of Red Sox baseball (then it was shifted to EEI). But now
there are syndie shows and RKO prob isn't so much concerned with them. True, the miniscule ratings
they get may drag down RKO's overall rating but their main concern is mostly AM and PM drive
where the money is.

And next year what'll they have if Howie leaves..the Col. David Hunt show? :)

As for the suggestion of a WRKO-FM running America's Radio Network 3-6...

Wrong. Sorry, wrong.

They pay big money for Howie. Howie brings in big money (well, some money). He is a local product.
People want local. Advertisers want local. Having a "WRKO-FM" running a national news/talk show
instead of Howie would make as much sense as WEEI AM/FM choosing to run Kansas City Royals
baseball instead of Boston Red Sox baseball. Please tell me you're joking... ::)

Further, PM drive is prime time. It would be like NBC running My Mother The Car reruns in prime
time instead of current sitcoms. It doesn't work.

:D hhhahaa, you are too funny with your responce @Raccoonradio.
It was just an idea, because some people like news
or
on 97.7 put
Noon-3pm "America's Radio News Network" (Talk Radio Network)
3pm-6pm (on 97.7) Howie Carr
6pm-9pm (on 97.7) "America's Radio News Network" Talk Radio Network
9pm-Midnight (On 97.7) Rusty Humpries (Talk Radio Network)
Midnight-1am "24/7 Comedy Radio" Citadel Media Network

It's just ideas, nothing to hurt no one, just put it this way. This is our practice before we can become Radio "Program Management" we help each other out after we tell our ideas, right? 8) ???

yup... btw when I visited my cousin in Norfolk VA I noted their AM 850, WTAR I think, is all comedy radio
24/7

I think I heard a bit of "America's Radio News" when I passed thru Wash DC area
