"Your life...your music...Star 94"

How come it feels like every time I turn on Star94 I hear Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me? Anyone else feel that way?

For me, it feels like...
One Republic - Secrets
Train - If It's Love
Michael Franti - Say Hey (I Love You)
Orianthi - According To You

I'm so sick of hearing these songs I feel like hurling when they come on (which is still constantly)

Luckily though, for me, 99X borders on Hot AC now during the daytime (more like Modern AC I guess), so I mainly listen to them, and flip to Star 94 every once in a while

You guys should try streaming WRQX (Mix 107.3)/Washington and compare - it's like night and day (they'll literally play anything that charted on HAC during the 2000s)

Maybe cause WRQX has been Hot AC for almost two decades and Star 94 is still re-defining itself? Lol I think I just answered my own question

Sweet! I think they're finally adding in a broader playlist!

Today they played Finger Eleven/One Thing, Vertical Horizon/Everything You Want, New Radicals/You Get What You Give, and Semisonic/Closing Time! (All in a three hour period) ;D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but were you not the same person who wanted more Train, Creed, and Five for Fighting in rotation? Oh, the hypocrisy of it all... ???

No clue what you're talking about

For me, it's a matter of variety, not which specific bands they play

I think they've really done a great job broadening up the playlist in the last month or so though, and adding more Alternative stuff - I listen to Star 94 all the time now

I'm not sure if Chase Daniels reads this board, but to me he deserves a medal for the job he's doing on air - not only does he research facts about artists to read on air as intros, he's now analyzing song lyrics and introducing songs by giving the audience his take on what the song's about

To me, everyone out there needs to follow his lead...

I was thinking the same thing, plus Chase sounds great. He does a terrific job. I also think Heather Branch and Darik are both sounding better than ever.

I'm so excited that Star 94 is finally getting cutting-edge again!! ;D ;D ;D ;D (especially at night)...

11 7 TAIO CRUZ Dynamite 33 31 2
18 11 MAROON 5 Never Gonna Leave This Bed 30 18 12
35 12 LINKIN PARK Waiting For The End 29 14 15
21 15 RIHANNA Only Girl (In The World) 20 18 2
51 16 THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS Closer To The Edge 20 9 11
0 21 LIFEHOUSE Falling In 18 0 18
0 24 PARACHUTE Something To Believe In 16 0 16

Their "teasers" imply that they're trying to take listeners from Q100, B98.5, and 99X - hoping it works!

Funny you mention that...

Star sounds its best when it's taking calculated risks on new music, maintaining a relatively varied recurrent/gold category, and playing the biggest and best rhythmic-tinged pop smashes - the songs that attain cultural ubiquity.

That being said, I'd venture to opine that Star's music over the past month or so sounds the best it has in years. Songs from 30 Seconds To Mars, Linkin Park, Adele and Parachute keep the station fresh and distinctive; the Jason Derulo, Rihanna and Taio Cruz records are welcome additions of tempo, and the playlist's overall pacing and flow are honestly as good as I can ever remember. They've fully embraced the HAC sound and, in my opinion, it's made the station a much more fun and interesting listen. This is their lane and I hope they keep it up.

I agree Star's music has been slowly and steadily getting better. And I think their Friday overnight guy is incredible. He makes them sound like the best Hot AC in the country if not the universe.

Completely agree with everything here - I listen to Star all the time now, and I couldn't stand it half a year ago - not only are they playing cutting-edge new music in frequent rotation, they now have a huge variety of 2000s and late 90s gold tracks, so you never know what you're gonna hear next

Glad Star is doing much better. Success is always a good thing. Musically tho, CHR/Top 40 is more my forte. I just wonder if this means Q100 will eventually go "full-circle" and revert back to a more Hot-AC sound to compete with Star as they did from 2007-2009. They're still far from being a full-blown CHR so, I really hope they don't go back to an Adult CHR.

Q100 hasn't gone down at all in ratings though (at least not at this point) - Dave and B98.5 have, though, so it looks like the new Star listeners are coming from those stations - but it looks like Star has gained confidence from all these new listeners, and in the last week has started going after Q100 also (as well as 99X) - if Q100 starts losing listeners to Star (when the next PPMs come out), then yeah I think they'll be under pressure to add back some of the HAC stuff

Amazing what some of you gomers believe goes on in a radio station when it comes to the decision making process.

???

If a station starts losing listeners to another station, it adjusts its programming to win back those listeners - it's not rocket science...
