Your thoughts on Monday?

Both stations loud and clear in Wartburg. Could always get both on a table radio at the Oliver Springs WalMart.
Radio reception from my point of view was always good in Wartburg. It is going to take more than good reception in Wartburg for 2 talk radio stations to make it in the Knoxville market. It is for sure going to be difficult when one station has a 92,000 watt advantage over the other even though that station has the better known local talent.

Dictionary.com describes the use of sarcasm thus:

In sarcasm, ridicule or mockery is used harshly. It may be used in an indirect manner, and have the form of irony, as in “What a fine musician you turned out to be!” or it may be used in the form of a direct statement, “You couldn't play one piece correctly if you had two assistants.” The distinctive quality of sarcasm is present in the spoken word and manifested chiefly by vocal inflection ...[5]

Hostile, critical comments may be expressed in an ironic way, such as saying "don't work too hard" to a lazy worker. The use of irony introduces an element of humour which may make the criticism seem more polite and less aggressive.

Welcome back 100.3!.......It's great to see a locally owned and operated station (with a signal) back in the market. Should be interesting to see how this plays out between the guys who are hosting a "moving party" (after they moved) and the new GM who wasn't invited to the party....

News/Talk listeners will be the winners, because of the competition and expanded offerings.

Nobody was being sarcastic. I just stated a fact. Radio reception is great in Wartburg, I wish I had it in Pigeon Forge. The fact is that a lot of people live in Severierville/Pigeon Forge area who drive daily to work in Knoxville. 98.7 does not come in well at all in that area. Not at 8000 watts. I know people who live in Lafollette who drive to Knoxville daily and cannot get a good signal on 98.7 until they are past Clinton. The morning drive time is where the money is for local radio. I know Rush has a large following etc, but he is up in the day. People listen to radio on their way to work. They are going with the best signal. If this were a 100,000 watt station vs a 92,000 watt station this would be one heck of a radio battle. It is not. Listeners are gonna go with the best signal and advertisers are gonna go with the station with the best signal. I think HHH is one of the nicest person one would ever want to know both in and out of radio but if you cannot pick up the signal he is on then you cannot hear him. If 98.7 can increase power say 75,000 watts then there will be a battle between the two stations. Until that happens then 1000.3 is gonna will by shear power alone.

I was the one being sarcastic. Sorry for any confusion.

I live southwest of town and drive into Knoxville daily from the Loudon/Sweetwater area and 98.7 has always been ok on this side of town (towards Loudon Co.). Don't get me wrong, it certainly is nowhere near as strong as 100.3, but it is fine on car radios as far down as Sweetwater. 98.7 fades between Sweetwater and Athens, whereas 100.3 booms all the way down into n. Georgia. Anyway, my general feeling is 98.7 is fine for in-car reception (where 80% of listening is anyway), but is awful for building penetration and home/office listening.

Now as far as the new 100.3 WNOX. I've been listening this morning, & I'm glad they are here, but the production values so far are really cheap & "homemade" sounding. I was hoping for a slick national voiceover guy & a better station name ("SuperTalk 100", "NewsRadio 100", "100.3 The Signal", etc.). Hopefully the production values and imaging will improve after they really launch later this week. Currently, 98.7 sounds much more professional and slicker.

BR uh...get a LIFE...first you are NOT hearing the product, and second what sounds professional about 98?? Sorry Dude but to take a shot before they open the door for business hints that you might either work for the other guys or are very new to this radio world.

Nope Walker,
I haven't worked in radio in 13 years now, so i have no relation to either party. But i am a stickler for production work and good sounding imaging & sweepers and that's what i was referring to. I have no idea whether the ones they are running during the weekend programming are the finished product or not, but why launch with crappy stuff only to change it later in the week. I'd rather have all my ducks in order and launch with everything complete because first impressions in radio are everything.

Anyway, i DO hope 100.3 does well. I have no iron in the fire and dont favor either company, but i do think 98.7 has excellent imaging, sweepers, and promos that resemble those in large markets. I simply hope 100.3 steps it up to the same level.

Why the hostility? It's just my opinion based on a first impression of their weekend programming & imaging.

Risking certain crucifixion, I think we're in the mode of thinking everything Citadel does sucks because its corporate and everything Pirkle does is genius because its not. Certainly since many of us have been displaced in consolodation we want the local guy to win, myself included. However, and I realize its not even official day one, but it's sounding sloppy today...and I'd think there'd have been time to dry run the weekend programming. Lots of audio being clipped, early or late rejoins, two sources running at once, and an outdated weather forecast (clouds burning off by 8am and its now 4pm). I'm sure this won't continue but why sound this way for people who might be sampling? Flame away, folks.

I heard the same weather forecast just now, but he actually said, "by 8 a.m. MONDAY." (I think the guy used to be on the Sports Llama.) The audio problems are probably a computer programming deal, or...I would consider them possibly deliberate, to get the very reaction you have exhibited. As a long-time Pirkle watcher, I would caution anyone against thinking you have even heard his weekend programming.
I would not think Citadel is the only stuntmeister in this game. Enjoy the "moving" party. It is on Monday, some time after the clouds disperse. Then, DUCK!!!!!!

BR..opinions are like you know what...but to go after something that is not really up and running is a bit silly. Great Sweepers (in talk radio?) and imaging have yet to make any station a dime. Lets see if the product outsells the only other competition in town and who is standing this time next year.
As for being mad or showing hostility.. at my age I admit to having a bit of a problem with folks who throw dirt clods from behind the dumpster. Valid criticism is worth thinking about but until the facts are in on 100 me thinks it would be best to as great great great grand mother use to say .. "Shut up."
