YSP To Classic Rock

With the constant repetition of the same core artists, plus now they are going to indulge themselves as Eagles this and Eagles that and have repulsive Reese, pollute the frequency with his jargon/shows. They have lost the average hard rock fan 10 months ago, so whatever they do has to be an improvement...They are one horrible disgrace and shell of what they once were circa 95-96, as a premier Active Rocker...

That wouldn't be surprising. They haven't been playing currents much, if at all, since Kidd Chris was shown the door. They may more likely rebrand themselves as a "Classic Rock That Really Rocks" station without really changing their recent playlist.

I havent listened to YSP much since Chris' firing... but I had it on over the weekend for a bit and happened to hear this "If MMR means more rock, then why are they always talking"

it made me chuckle...

I also heard one that went "It should be MMT - Means More Talk"...

This is a very good possibility, with a new PD coming on board soon.

Consider one tired classic rock station on town, I see room for another.

figured something had to be coming soon, given the new billboards and the start of another Eagles season. good timing. hopefully they will have an expanded classic rock playlist and not just repeat sweet home alabama and stairway to heaven all the time. there's so much great (and listenable) classic rock that hasn't been played in a long time, it would probably sound like new music, given the white stripes and a slew of other current acts who really sound like 1967 rolling stones much of the time.

I've always found YSP's criticisms of MMR for talking ironic, as they haven't been a fulltime rock station for at least twenty years (until recently). I'll take MMR's chatter over YSP's anyday. Besides, a large part of MMR's longevity and success has been it's personalities who connect with their listeners--by talking.

However, if YSP puts out a good music-intensive product, classic rock or not, both YSP and MMR could peacefully (?) coexist.

Nothing would please me more (other than 9-12-07 not happening) than to see WYSP brand themselves as what they are.

And whats with the "Real Rock" moniker? RFF and MMR are just an ILLUSION! ooooh spooky!

yea, but we have 105.7 for that, and the people that dont have 105.7 have 107.5. i say they should leave 94 alone, HOWVERE, what happened to what was on the station a few months ago? the KORN, SOAD, etc... BRING IT BACK!

as of right now, the only station that as doing the best they can is WWYY in the valley.

Classic Rock - that actually Rocks - makes sense for YSP.

Right now they have no identity, unless you count that as a watered down version of MMR. They're not going to beat MMR doing what they're doing, and they won't out Modern Rock RFF. If they take the Classic Rock position between MMR and MGK they may be on to something, especially with The Eagles.

Not so fast music fans. Reports are surfacing today that O & A are in negotiations with Sirius. CBS is waiting in the wings to see how it goes. It could be the third time around at 'YSP. Since when did listeners opinions count? Hasn't anyone on this board learned yet that consultants know everything?

If they do it right, it could work.

Not the same Zeppelin/Aerosmith/Van Halen Ozzy repetitive junk. Lets get some variety in the classic hard rock. Little Dio, Rainbow, Thin Lizzy, early Mettalica, Motorhead, Molly Hatchet. Maybe even throw some hair stuff in between. It could just work.

whats wrong with some zeppelin? some different songs yea, but no one can get rid of the best band ever made. how bout achilles last stand, carouselambra, in the evening, nobodys fault but mine, etc

While CBS is contemplating selling radio stations, they should just add WXRK and WYSP to the list. They are absolutely clueless when it comes to what needs to be done with these stations. It's this simple - nobody is doing Active or Alternative in NYC, and there is no real Active (read: HARD Rock) station in Philly, yet they're continuing to settle for mediocre-to-poor ratings with both stations - XRK as K-Rock "The Rock Of New York", a safe-as-milk generic 200 song rocker in a market with only a Classic Rock station and a kitchen sink pseudo-AAA as competition, and YSP rumored in a Classic Rock direction and already playing hardly any currents. Stupid, stupid move. Hey, let's throw out the same exact thing as the competition and criticize them for having too much talk when we do the exact same thing! I look forward to watching this blow up in their face, and hopefully some station will jump in and take what could have been theirs. Serves you right for your lazy, pathetic attempt at programming, CBS!

For long, we have criticized MGK for being too safe, classic hits (def. 1, def. 2 is what Oldies became, a la WCBS-FM and WOGL) in presentation, I can see another classic rocker coming along and, with a little Philly attitude and a wider, more aggressive selection, really blow the doors off of MGK. I guess it was time to throw in the towel, sandwiched between WMMR and WRFF. So now, instead of swinging for the fences against the beast at 93.3, they'll target the weaker sister at 102.9.

Not to take away from WMGK, they have a great stable of jocks. But, they are in for a fight. And this will further prove that Philly is a rock town. I, for one, am happy.

If they're going in the direction Gross describes, they better do it now since the cat is now out of the bag--if this is even true. MGK now has plenty of time to counter-program, if they choose to do so.

Or, perhaps YSP has other plans up its sleeve and this classic rock rumor is a red herring on CBS's part.

I love MGK's Deep Trax HD-2 channel, which I've sampled online. If they had that playlist on the main channel, along with MGK's jock lineup, I'd never stop listening!

I listen to Deep Trax all the time, it's what REAL classic rock is all about. The safe MGK is getting stale, I am so tired of hearing Andre Gardner on the drive home, that station needs to reshuffle the deck!
