Z Country 106.7

Both Paul Harvey and Dandalion were obviously programming assets for their time, but as the station aged from 1980 to 1997 when Bob came on, the target of persons 25-54 was fluid. Both Harvey and Dandalion eventually became a liability for Z107 that BOB capitalized on. A 25 year old in 1980 was now 43 in 1997. Keeping a heritage station in-target demo is a tough thing to do, particularly when some of the listeners who age out of the target still listen, still love you and can't understand why you have to change. In time, your biggest assets can become your biggest liabilities. AC stations face the biggest challenges in this regard. What once was Elton John, Billy Joel & Rod Stewart is now Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.

As a footnote, I don't think that jocks necessarilyhave to age out of a format. Tim Burns did CHR at WNNK when he was in his early 60s. Jack Diamond of Hot AC WRQX MIX107.3 in Washington is definitely 60 plus. Ben Barber of WHYL sounds no older than he did in 1980. You have to want to stay current and focused. You can't do what you've done for 15-20-30 years and expect to survive.

Actually, I think Ben Barber sounds like he did around '67, shen he was a "Whyl Smile Guy" on Channel 96. As far as his voice is concerned....the guy never ages and he sounds great!

Not familiar with the market(s)....exactly how many Country Stations are there now On Air?

website and facebook haven't been updated in awhile.

do they really still have only one ANNOUNCER live in the studio all day?

whats going on here?

A friend of mine suggested that they might be trying to see what kind of numbers they get with minimum staff before they proceed. I did hear that they are looking for a PD/morning talent. The CMT night show sounds good. The problem is that other country stations in the area have live people and are involved with their listeners. I'm not sure what Cumulus's goal is with this one. I was listening to WIOV last night. Is Z running the same jingle package as IOV?

The applicant pool might be slim pickins....

I know someone who has applied for other Cumulus stations...their HR email address bounces back saying the mailbox is full and cannot accept new emails...?

There is a post on their FaceBook page this morning from the new 5am-9am guy....goes by the name 'Chachi.' Says he is not new to radio, but new to the area.

I heard Chachi this morning on Z.....not terribly impressed and truly think he's voice tracked (at least the 8:30-9am half hour)
