Z100 to Fort Myers?

Change is in the air in Fort Myers...

Smooth Jazz 100.1 in Fort Myers (transmitter in the Port Charlotte area) has let go of all of their staff (well, that was only one person, the PD...but still) and Scrappy and DJ Kwest from 105.5 The Beat have taken the station over.

Here is the thought...

Clear Channel simulcasts Elvis Duran and the Z Morning Zoo on 100.1...do a voicetracked jock in the midday...simulcast Seacrest for Afternoon Drive...and flip the station to Z100, Southwest Florida's #1 Hit Music Station.

Think about it...

With all the Northeast transplants down in Fort Myers it would work...

Hell, they can use ALL of Z100-New York's jingles and imaging...

And it would be great competition against the struggling B103.9 WXKB.

And before you say why would they have a new CHR take away numbers from their 105.5 The Beat, I can only point to Boston to show you that it works (Jamn 94.5 and Kiss 108).

Thoughts?

CC already tried CHR on that frequency from 1998 to 2000 (??). It was 100.1 KISS FM with MJ & BJ simulcast in the morning. I can't recall who the rest of the line-up was but the numbers were never good.

Well as of this morning...

They are looping the hook of the song "I Want To Move It...Move It"...Not sure what the exact title of the song is, but that is what they are doing.

And when you do a search of z1001.com on WHOIS.COM...this is what it comes up with...

This domain name was created on 3-9 of this year...almost 3 weeks ago. So there is something in the works...and to me it smells like the new Z100 (.1) for Southwest Florida. Elvis Duran in the Morning...and Seacrest in the Afternoon.

another radio website also has this news and is predicting a movin format like philly and miami

interesting....

smooth jazz -1

itll probably be movin like its counterpart over here miami and if its the same get ready for micheal jackson shaggy will smith its tiring already and it flipped christmas

Renda got rid of "Groovin' 102.9" a year or two ago. I think since WLVE 93.9 MIA is working well in Miami, they'd give a Rhythmic AC/CHR format a try here. It's pretty much the same audience, as I grew up in SWFL from 1980-1999, being able to pick up "Power 96" back in the day.

Remember "91.5 The Spark" / "Power 89.5"? That station was #1 in late-80's to early-90's. Imagine what numbers a station could do if they played something like that again (FREESTYLE) in this area. I'll be excited!

Thanks for the heads up. I think I'll try to send some material their way if they want to "keep it local". If they rehire Drew Steele for this format, that would be the smartest thing to do, since I think he was a former "Sparkler".

Please keep me updated, as I am stuck in Orlando busy impacting two Central FL markets (VOLUNTARILY!). I would love to go back home, if given the opportunity!

Hey Mo,

Clear Channel won't be happy until there is only one person working in their Metro Parkway building. It astonishes me how their mission since the deregulation days of the mid-90's has been to dismantle and destroy radio. They've darn near succeeded. Their programming arm, Broadcast Architecture, has certainly succeeded in killing Smooth Jazz as a format!
Randi Bachman, the sole WZJZ person, was uncerimoniusly shown the door last Friday in a typical cold-hearted CC way. The last station event was a jazz concert on Saturday and the plug was pulled on the format, and thw website, at midnight Saturday-Sunday.
Still playing that 'Movin'' crap at 8:30AM on Monday.

A "Z-100" logo is now appearing in the streaming media player:

by the way.... This is the worst sounding stunting clip ever. Aren't there ANY creative minds in that office? Geez... just go ahead and flip already... this clip is serving NO purpose or even the least bit entertaining.

It will be interesting if it's indeed a hit music format how it's positioned between WOLZ and WBTT. I'm not sure if I buy the "Z" thing unless they're gonna move WOLZ from 95.3. Thoughts?

Seems like Radiopro09876 has all the answers... What else can you tell us?

Did you just say Deejay Quest is one of the people who are taking over this station?

From what I was told...DJ Kwest is helping Scrappy in the flip of the station.

I agree...this literally is the WORST station stunt I have heard in recent memory. Just horrible. What happened to people having fun with station stunts to cause awareness for the station????

Even if this is a Rhythmic AC format, I still believe that Elvis Duran will be doing morning drive. THAT will shake up the market.

And guess what...

We could see even more changes with WOLZ 95.3 letting go of their entire airstaff, including Program Director Jimmy Roberts today.

I honestly don't get what they are doing on Metro Parkway...if you were going to make changes like this, why do it 3 DAYS ahead of the book instead of AT LEAST 3 weeks?!?!

So I'm going to assume this stunt is going to be the April Fool's joke that turns into the new format?

WOLZ 95.3 went downhill after they dropped their good-time rock & roll oldies. My dad was kind of suffering between the time when WOLZ "tweaked" & Oldies 92 came along (he delivers food). Now he seems a little happier again with the new Oldies 92.

Z100 is on

I am not sure when it officially came on the air; I tuned in around 6:30 am as I was getting ready for work.

I've been listening for a half hour (it's now 8AM) and it sounds like a modernized Groovin' 102.9 to me. Very enjoyable but not contemporary.
WOLZ dug their own grave with idiotic music changes,(for awhile) awful processing and bad talent. Other than that, they were fine.
And Rick McGee is back at Cat Country, another station a victim of self-inflicted wounds. Actually, WBTT is the only station in that building that hasn't screwed itself up. Yet.

It's called "flushing the audience"... ;D

Just read somewhere that the flip took place at 6am.

At 3/31, starting around 1:30pm, I tuned in online from the old smooth jazz 107.1 (yeah, 107.1!) website & heard these songs:

Nelly Furtado "Fly Like A Bird"
Ne-Yo "Come Closer"
Justin Timberlake "My Love"
George Lamond "Look Into My Eyes" (FREESTYLE!!!)
No Mercy "Where Do You Go"
Prince "When Doves Cry"
Lipps Inc. "Funkytown"
Nelly "Hot In Herre"
Shannon "Give Me Tonight" (YAY!)
Jordin Sparks "No Air"
Gloria Estefan "Everlasting Love"

So it's Rhythmic AC like 93.9 MIA. Anyone have a playlist of the 6am hour or was the "I Like To Move It" loop too much torture? HAHA!!

100 songs starting at 9am. Upbeat music that's workplace friendly... So what about nights, weekends, & mixshows? ;)
