Z100 to Fort Myers?

Re: Z100 is on

Just read somewhere that the flip took place at 6am.

At 3/31, starting around 1:30pm, I tuned in online from the old smooth jazz 107.1 (yeah, 107.1!) website & heard these songs:

Nelly Furtado "Fly Like A Bird"
Ne-Yo "Come Closer"
Justin Timberlake "My Love"
George Lamond "Look Into My Eyes" (FREESTYLE!!!)
No Mercy "Where Do You Go"
Prince "When Doves Cry"
Lipps Inc. "Funkytown"
Nelly "Hot In Herre"
Shannon "Give Me Tonight" (YAY!)
Jordin Sparks "No Air"
Gloria Estefan "Everlasting Love"

There's also:

Coro - Can't Let You Go
Nice & Wild - Diamond Girl
Cover Girls - Show Me
Judy Torres - Please Stay Tonight
Stevie B - Spring Love

So it's Rhythmic AC like 93.9 MIA.

Yes.

What you probably mean is a shadowcast, meaning the music is exactly the same, but it's not an outright rebroadcast (ie sweepers, etc are different).

The sad thing is MIA in Miami is already programmed mostly out of KTU in New York, with the jocks being VT'ed out of NYC....So if that's the case, where are the "New ZJZ" jocks going to be VT'ed from?? Probably anywhere but Ft. Myers.

Anyone remember the good ol' days of WEEJ?? Or are y'all too young??

I do remember WEEJ. It was a Charlotte County based station. I remember it going through some format changed over the years. Then CC in their so called wisdom placed Cat Country on that spot. Big mistake as the signal did not reach to the south very well leaving out most of Collier County. That was when Cat Country lost a lot of it's listeners as far as I am concerned.

Somehow I figured that the new station would be VT more than likely. I guess I was not wrong.

By the way, does anyone know what is going on at WOLZ? I see that Sammie Jo is gone, Rick McGee is back over at Cat Country and today they were saying a new morning show is on the way. Wonder what's up?

Uh oh.... you're right. If you stream both stations at the same time you'll notice they're playing the same playlist... and the imaging is identical besides the names and dial positions. This is the future of Clear Channel people.... here it comes.

Wow. You're right.

The yes.com playlist of WLVE-FM is what I heard, song for song on WZJZ-FM! Too bad they don't show the Ft. Myers market.

"Z100 is a breakthrough in Southwest Florida sound, playing up-tempo songs that people will recognize, stations officials said..."

Wait till they start recognizing they're piping the exact same playlist as a station in Miami! LOL!

Is their PD the same as the MIA PD? I would guess that is the case by default...

A listener writes: "What happened to the smooth jazz radio station? 100.1 FM is no longer doing programming. They are barely on the air with a recorded loop of a rap song, "I wanna move it, move it ..."

I used to call it "McRadio", but then I realized that even McDonalds tailors its' menu differently depending on what part of the world (and even US) you're in. By the way, the "Terriyaki McBurger" and the "Ebi Fillet-O" in Japan's Micky-Ds are exceptional.

To tell you the truth, I actually wouldn't mind listening to what is coming from Miami when I'm down in SWFL, especially the Freestyle. Most listeners wouldn't mind either, since some of them grew up listening to Power 96 back in the day. A Miami-based station can work in the Ft. Myers market. Just think of what "91.5 The Spark/Power 89.5" did. That station is legendary.

BTW, Deejay Quest had nothing to do with the flip, nor with what will go on with the new Z100.1 in the future. Just got a direct response from him today. :p And being that the playlist is the same as 93.9 MIA, I don't think Scrappy will have much to do with it either, but to spread the word.

I think since WLVE 93.9 MIA is working well in Miami, they'd give a Rhythmic AC/CHR format a try here. It's pretty much the same audience, as I grew up in SWFL from 1980-1999...

Remember "91.5 The Spark" / "Power 89.5"? That station was #1 in late-80's to early-90's. Imagine what numbers a station could do if they played something like that again (FREESTYLE) in this area. I'll be excited!

Thanks for the heads up. I think I'll try to send some material their way if they want to "keep it local". If they rehire Drew Steele for this format, that would be the smartest thing to do, since I think he was a former "Sparkler".

Drew Steele is working at the moment for Fort Myers Broadcasting...

From the News-Press:

Media Matters

- Morning hosts Rich and Tanya on WINK 96.9 have left the station.

General manager Wayne Simons wouldn't comment on the reason, but said the station has a new morning show planned. However a launch date hasn't been set - it won't be before May - and he declined to give details. Well-known radio personality Drew Steele is filling in on mornings in the interim.
