Z100 tweaking in a rhythmic direction

The kind of info allaccess is talking about, you won't find on yes.com. If you have access to mediabase, that will tell a whole different tale. But, you need to be on the inside of a station to get that info.

Z100 going in a rhythmic direction? That sucks a lot. I HATE HATE HATE RAP. You can't spell Crap without Rap. I don't mind the occasional Kanye West, Akon, Flo Rida, but no Britney spears please. And that horrendous piece of crap Lady Gaga I don't freaking care about your stupid poker face and Rihanna, she's got too many freaking single, stop releasing singles. Now's alright, they need to add rock. I like CHR's with a rock lean like WSTW, 98.5 KRZ. I think that if Z100 adds Shinedown, Offspring, Saving Abel, etc. they'll do well. As for Now, they're gonna get killed by Hot 97 and Power 105.

1. They aren't going Rhythmic
2. Rhythmic doesn't mean Rap. it means Dance leaning. Urban means Rap
3. Those rock songs don't test well with a CHR audience. This is not a rock leaning town anyway.
4. You don't like rap but you name Rap artists you like and then list Rhythmic artists you don't.

z- 100 sounds more urban now than it ever has,put hot 97 on then put z100 on ,pretty darn close to me.Then again z-100,power,hot and now all sound the same ,same songs just different frequency and DJs.Its sad how they are pulling rock songs in favor of rap. They said rock and roll would never die but it seems like it did.Thank god for sirius! NY radio all sounds the same, cookie cutter and boring.

Z100 doesn't really play rap. They play rhythmic. WPLJ plays a nice mix of pop CHR.

Many good observations made on this thread.

I would think that Z100 is acting/reacting more from research than knee-jerk to NOW. Poleman is too smart, and there is too much at stake to get into a coin flip-music situation with the new kidd on the block.

What's going to be interesting to watch over time is how aggressive Z100 will be on breaking mainstream artists and new music. Will they continue to pound Nickleback & Fray knowing NOW won't touch those songs until they become too big to ignore? How will Poleman ultimately react to Doms' attempt to kill his street cred/hipness factor? Will this end up being a "vanilla" vs. "brown" war? What part of Z100's huge audience is going to abandon ship and go from a P1 to a P2? This is great stuff!

Music will be a very important factor initially as people discover NOW and compare them to Z. IMO, Z has to tighten their playlist and become more focused. Their music log has to be a Picasso painting representing who they are every quarter hour. There is NOW a competitor stealing your music.

That 7p hour that Jeffrey posted had Usher "U got it bad" and Ne-yo "Mad" within 2 songs of each other. While they are great songs, they are too alike to play that close. And Ghetto Superstar at 8p? I'm nitpicking, but it's going to be the little things that decide who comes out on top.
