Z105.9 is officially on the air. It is an Urban Contemporary format with a focus on Southern Soul, Zydeco, and R&B.

The Tom Joyner - Mornings
Carl Thibodaux - Midday
Tommy C - Afternoons
Keith Sweat - Nights
The Cravins Brothers (Don & Charles) - Sundays from 10-12
Porsha Evans - Sunday from 6-10

By the way, did anyone hear how the Cravins Brothers exited KNEK on Sunday? I just can't believe Citadel didn't see that coming!

Three Urbans now in Acadiana (HOT 107.9 ,and 104.7) with the new 105.9. Is that a good idea? Maybe mixing the other stuff on 105.9 could introduce another segment to that genre, if you can get past Joyner's stuff.

Wrong... 4 Urbans Hot 107.9 (KRKA) which is a top 40 urban (Churban) aimed at teens and 20 somethings usually white, Urban A/C 104.7 KNEK , Urban A/C with a edge (which tried and failed apparently on country with a different edge) 105.9 KFXZ, and Urban Q95.5 KRRQ

I listened today and they sound like they are trying to mimick 104.7s horrible processing. They horridly boosted the treble and flattened the bass. Their sound levels from song to song are also all over the place. From a processing view they had been sounding pretty good as a country station.

I wouldn't lump in 105.9, 104.7, 107.9 & 95.5 in the same category.

I don't even look at 107.9 and 95.5 as being that close formatically.

I like the idea behind the flip on 105.9. Tommy C was on Magic 104.7 in PM drive a couple of years ago, good pipes...

Magic has monster numbers and loyalty, despite having only ONE local and live AT during the daytime. I'm really curious to see how this plays out. This will take some time and patience before the numbers could really start cookin'.

As long as 105.9 is 6000 watts there will only be fizzling, not sizzling. It won't make any kind of dent in the market. Possible St. Landry parish ad buys and that will mainly come from zydeco clubs and shows.

Ihearall is exactly right on this one. While the talent lineup is almost (if not exactly) a copy of KNEK's schedule from just a few years back, I don't see KFXZ making a dent in the ratings. Unless Pittman manages to successfully petition the FCC to up its power to reach most of KNEK's broadcast area, KFXZ will have a difficult time bumping KNEK from its perch despite having the best radio voice (Tommy C.) and one of the longest-running radio programs (the Cravins brothers) in the Lafayette market on its airwaves.

I'll certainly be listening when in Lafayette . . .

??? I have been listening to 105.9 since they came on the air November 3 and they are not mimiking 104.7. They are better. In my opinion 104.7 is a wanna be urban station that does not play what the people want to hear. Once upon a time they used to have a pretty good lineup. Ron Richard changed his format from golden oldies to zydeco since he started managing the zydeco groups and that made me not want to listen as much. As far as Im concerned KFXZ Z105.9 has the best of all genre's. Tom Joyner, Carl T, Tommy C., Keith Sweat, Brown Sugah, George Fisher and Chris and Stephanie Omigi. The have a clear channel and the music they put out is top quality. Not only are they selling advertisement but they are also gaining listeners.

There is some confusion here. 104.7 has never been a wanna be urban or anything close to it. The station is Urban AC and has pulled monster numbers 25-54, at times beating just phone it in 99-9 KTDY in the same demo.
How do you know that Z105.9 is gaining listeners? The station hasn't been on very long and totally missed the fall 2008 Arbitron. At 6000 watts it may gain some advertisers in St. Landry parish but unless it can crack into a metal or brick building in the 70501 without static, there won't be much gaining of listeners or advertisers.

I'm liking Z-105.9 very much.

The station reminds me very slightly of the energy of when "The House Rocker-Paul Thibeaux" was on the air.

They sound more local than 104.7 and I mean that in a good way.

It's hard to say how they will do ratings-wise. 105.9 isn't quite as mainstream formatically as 104.7. I don't think their signal will have as much to do with their rating as simply going against the firmly established 104.7 will. 60dbu gets 105.9 halfway into Laffy, while 104.7's 60dbu coverage gets them to Broussard/Youngsville.

Z105.9 just debuted as the number 2 station in the 12+ (of course tied with 2 other stations) and is the #1 station in Lafayette in the 25-54 demo. Not a bad first full book for the station.

Congratulations to the staff (on-air and otherwise) and management of KFXZ-FM for a fine showing in the books. Keep up the good work.

Any chance of some of this jump being confusion with KBZE 105.9FM in Morgan City, which gets into about half of New Iberia?

I thought the same thing at first—but if that was the case, wouldn't we have seen KBZE show up with at least a low number in previous books?

Technically IMO it would have been counted for what ever format 105.9 (Now KFXZ) would have had at the time as we see that problem on the Baton Rouge numbers with WPRF and the LP station in Baton Rouge. Most people can remember the frequency better than callsigns IMO.

THE JUMP IS JUST SO HARD FOR ME TO BELIEVE...AS LONG AS I'VE BEEN AROUND, PITTMAN JUST DOESN'T BELIEVE IN PROMOTING ANY OF HIS PRODUCTS...

Ah—I think you're correct, RFLA. That's what I get for drinking and posting. :p
