Z93 stunting!

I hear from someone in at CC that WDKF is in for a flip soon. It's not definite but it's possible. What will it be now? Station 94.5: ALL THE HITS.

Now that would work! I would actually listen to it then. Was there a possible date?

Jason - Thank you very much for understanding. I know, its odd seeing these people not understand the importance of market research and revenue growth.

But thank you again!

As for Hot, It will most definatly become the default CHR primarily because of coverage and I wouldnt be surprised to see Mainline take that in a much more mainstream enviroment.

As for the rumor I heard CC is looking to take 94.5 Urban, which could make for it to be even more interesting...ah, the saga continues, no pun intended!

It's hard, listening to the station, to stay interested. I'm sure the format draws listeners because of the "what will they play next" element, but it will push just as many away who want to hear one type of music, or who feel that they never turn it on during a song they enjoy.

The imaging is terrible. It sounds second-rate, like it's trying to be hip or witty. It comes across as condescending and dull, honestly.

IMO, "The Eagle" does a better imaging job than "Fly 92.9".. and that's not because I work at that station.

I agree that the imaging isn't good. It sounds very bad and it makes no sense on that station. Hopefully they will work on that.

Can we say CHANNEL 94-5 Blazin Hip Hop and R&B.

Crazy speculation here, but I think Clear Channel realizes that once 102.9 moves Rhythmic CHR they are going to have an uphill battle to fight!

All I know with the research was that Hot is a very solid station right now. Just needs a few minor tweaks and a few more revenue doors and it will be a strong station for Mainline. They dont want to do too much to the station because it could very easily collapse on them, so they have to be careful.

Also, a former consultant for Susquehenna (one of america's most successful radio companies) has been obtained to consult the Dayton and Louisville stations. That consultant later took over as one of the chiefs at Susquehenna and now owns his own consultancy. He also is the consultant for WSTR in Atlanta, KRBE Houston and KS107 in Denver.

Mainline is putting theirselves in a very very stong position here. They are really going to become a shining example of what radio is supposed to be here in the very near future.

You think taking it to a level like WILD 93-9 would make it collapse?

All in all, though we can mourn for Z93, it was time to make a change, and I do believe Variety Hits makes sense, and can seriously hurt WMMX given the chance. Mix does understand Hot A/C, but they (and the whole CC cluster) has been coasting for a long time. If anyone killed Z93, it was Radio One, because they put all of their efforts into Hot 102-9, leaving Z93 trying to straddle a line between Hot and Channel, and on the other hand Mix. As was alluded to before, Mix is the default station because of lack of anywhere else to go. Make Hot the market's CHR and go after Mix, and to a lesser extent, TUE and Lite, you could have some very serious competition and revenue growth on E David. Channel had repositioned Z93 as the station "your mother listened to when she wanted to hear the hits in the 80s".

As for WDHT's listeners going to WROU instead of WMMX, I'm not at all convinced listeners go from gangsta rap to Luther Vandross in a year or two. In many ways WROU is the Urban equivalent of Lite 99.9.

As for what I heard today, the imaging could certainly be improved, but the music mix was actually more familiar to me (and I'm probably out of the demo) than weekday listening on Mix.

Well.. WDHT definetely can use some improvement as well. They sound as weak as the other Main Line stations. Yes, including WROU. Sure, the numbers are good but at other station are they going to listen to? It's the same way in Columbus with Power 1075. But that won't be that way in a few weeks for the C-O.

I think if they threw in more of the pop titles...not Daughtry, but Fergie, Justin, etc. it wouldnt be so bad!

Wild's problem is the identity crisis going from Urban to Alternatve to Urban. If Hot remained more Rhythmic and Pop, like a good CHR/Rhythmic should, then they will be fine.

I couldn't have said it better Kentuck. HOT 1029 can call themselves.. "HOT 1029: DAYTON'S HITS & HIP-HOP" with Russ Parr in the morning (temporarily... they need someone local... plus I thought Russ Parr was R1 exclusive). A sample playlist:

JT- Until The End Of Time
Flo Rida- Low
Alicia Keys- No One
Fabolous- Baby Don't Go
Fergie- Fergalicious
Chris Brown- Kiss, Kiss
Gorilla Zoe- Hood Figga
Timbaland- Apologize
Puff Daddy- I'll Be Missing You
Natalie- Goin' Crazy
Trey Songz- Can't Help But Wait
Kanye West- Stronger
Rihanna- Umbrella

Any comments?

Today was for sure a sad sad day in Dayton radio history... I NEVER thought that Z93 would be changed... I grew up with that station from the very early 90's up to today, listened to the top8 at 8 and the Z Morning show, it has been on air for as long as I can remember. Also I do feel terrible for all the jocks and staff that were canned, Mainline Broadcasting couldn't have possibly picked a worse time to let the staff go, especially with the upcoming holiday season.

BINGO! That would be the prime playlist.

HOT 102.9 - DAYTON'S HOTTEST HIT'S AND HIP HOP

Basically design it to follow B96 in Chicago. The station could very easily become an overnight success story and burn Channel into the ground.

JT- Until The End Of Time
Flo Rida- Low
Alicia Keys- No One
Natasha Bedingfield - Love Like This
Fabolous- Baby Don't Go
Fergie- Fergalicious
Chris Brown- Kiss, Kiss
Elliott Yamin - Wait For You
Gorilla Zoe- Hood Figga
Timbaland- Apologize
Puff Daddy- I'll Be Missing You
Natalie- Goin' Crazy
Trey Songz- Can't Help But Wait
Kanye West- Stronger
Rihanna- Umbrella

You might be able to get away with Avril's GIRLFRIEND and possibly during the daytime Maroon Five's WAKEUP CALL.

Thats the direction Wild was when they were pulling 9 and 10 shares, and now under their management they are all over the map.

As for staffing the newly reconfigured mothership,

Monday-Friday:

6:00 to 10:00AM - RUSS PAR in the morning
10:00 to 2:00PM - ANGEL O'SHEA
2:00 to 7:00PM - SCOTTY and GINA in the afternoon
7:00 to 12:00AM - PARTYMAN

It kinda pisses me off to see Channel 945 use all the Z93 listeners to there advantage. Like how just a few minutes ago, the announcer said "Hey Z93 Listeners! I know its hard but Channel 945 is here, continue listening to us!!"
