Z93: Why can't it be like before?

The definitions of crossfade and segue, courtesy of the dictionary:
CROSSFADE-To fade out an image or sound while simultaneously fading in a different image or sound.
SEGUE-To make a transition from one thing to another smoothly and without interruption.

Okay, localguy comes across as a jerk, but he has a point. I don't think he intentionally means to come across as rude, but he is RIGHT.

Just because you looked up the definition in the dictionary doesn't mean you actually know the physical application in radio. Remember in Clueless when Alicia Silverstone looked up a new word in the dictionary and tried to use it in a sentence and it was abundantly clear she didn't know what she was talking about? Same here.

And if you are under 25 and you are in radio or wish you were, you are a kid. It takes a LOT of time to fully understand the programming aspect of radio. That's why really good pd's will tell you that it takes at least 10 years to even prepare yourself to take on the programming aspect of radio. A lot goes in to it, and no offense lovejammingoldies, but programming your internet radio station, doesn't make you a true programming director. It's almost an insult to even try to rank yourself with the true pds that busted their tail to get to their place. It's nice "playtime" or a hobby, but it's comparable to a child playing house and calling themselves a mom. It's entirely fictious.

This is NOT to insult anyone here, but it's entirely the truth. I know it comes across as abrasive, but thinking you know the lingo and understanding the practical applications are entirely two different scenarios, and I think most people would respect you more if you asked questions before you spoke about something you clearly don't know all that much about.

Now on to Z, Z-93 is like all radio in Dayton. Mediocre. Everyones come to accept it and the idea of actually putting a little effort into what you are doing has been lost on everyone. That's why a lot of true talent in this area leaves.

Okay. I am not trying to put myself in the position of being a actual hard working Program Director. So I am a Program Director for an Internet Radio station. I will continue to call myself that. I may not wake up everyday and go to a job, and do work for 8 hours (sometimes longer), but I do program 3 Internet Radio Stations, and do the rotation for each of them, indeed calling myself a Music Director. No, I may not truly know the actual definition between a crossfade, and a segue, but when I work with the automation I use, I know how to set the "crossfading, or segue" points. Heck, in Jazler they call it a "mix point". So, there are various ways to say it in my opinion. If I were to send Drake a message saying, "Drake, I liked how WDKF's crossfading is sounding." He would recognize it right away. Does that mean that the Program/Music Director of WDKF is a kid?

I am not arguing with you.

You are trying to talk a talk you don't really understand. The radio and programming industry is ten times more complex then the sandbox you are working at home, if you ever make it to the terrestrial radio business, and not your homemade stuff you will understand what local guy and several others are saying.

Drake is humoring you and being the professional that needs to be.

I could get into the parameters and the elements that you are clearly misunderstanding but it's clearly no use.

You do need to understand that you are being misleading and coming across as a fraud giving yourself the title of md and pd on here right? I know you don't get it, you are a kid trying to wear big kids pants and a label that you have yet to begin to understand.

I just think it's pretty funny that all of you so-called 'professionals' are taking time out from your 'complex', real world radio jobs to 'school' this kid.

Most of the real radio people out there that I know of spend their time actually making radio and little time posting about it. Sure, they watch these boards for entertainment value. But with a couple of rare exceptions, the people that post everyday aren't involved in radio to any substantial degree. You'll find them listed under "poser". I wonder how many of them still live with mom.

Anyway, before you rush to localguy's defense, why don't you see if you can get out of him where he works in radio. Really, isn't the heart of everyone's argument against this 'kid' that you're railing at that he doesn't work in radio?

Ask localguy which radio station he works for. Then after that decide whether or not you want to defend him as a professional anymore.

What does it matter? And in his defense, by giving that information that may reveal who is, or at least narrow it down. Some of us would rather our identities remain confidential.

Before I go any further, if I offended anyone by arguing a point, I am sorry. I am NOT under 25 years of age, BTW. I have never worked in radio, but I did dabble in it awhile back...Mainly doing a few stunts for Mallory and Campy back in '03 on Z-93, and I even helped them at a few remotes in '02-'03. I didn't get close to the board, either(No segues or crossfades LOL). I did as I was told and went on. I am not arguing about this any longer...It's silly and a waste of time. Even though lovejamminoldies and I would LOVE to know who LocalGuy is, who really cares? The guy comes off as a jerk anyhow. Even Massive, who defends him, called him a jerk. I have a 40 hour job and a life to worry about. I post on here for fun and sometimes even to ask a question or two to more knowledgeable people. Big whoop I got crossfade and segues mixed up. I know the basic concept. Time to move on with things...
Lovejamminoldies, good luck with your career ahead of you. Work hard and don't look back. Hard work will get you further than anything else in radio...knowing the lingo will come with time. You've got the passion. That right there is half of the battle.

Thanks. I agree. It's a huge waste of time to argue with someone much older than me that can teach me something. Let's keep this post to discuss the past and present of Z93.
