Zone Begins New Live and Local Midday Show

104.5 The Zone will begin a new live and local midday show beginning Monday. Hosting the show will be Brent Dougherty from the Zone's Overtime show and formerly of WLAC's lone sports show that ended a year or so ago, Clay Travis from the Tuesday night ClayNation show and UT author / AOL writer, and former Titans Safety Blaine Bishop from Titans Radio Game Day coverage.

The show will air from noon to 3:00. This means the 2:00 hour of "Sports Insiders" will disappear or be interpolated into other programming and that Jim Rome's show will finally disappear from the Nashville airwaves. The latter's fine with me, because Rome's show has always seemed to me to be a sports show for fanboys who are somewhat interested in sports but enjoy pop culture and talking smack a whole lot more.

Overtime has apparently been popular. Not sure if Overtime will be continued in some form at some point, but with a heavy rotation of play-by-play in place for the winter and spring, and with the addition of Sounds games in the Summer, Dougherty's air time was getting squeezed. Of course the Zone still has other talent in the bullpen who can host or co-host part time programming, including the Titans Radio crew, Jonathan Hutton, Chad Withrow, Mickey Ryan, etc.

and this is after they said letting darren mcfarland go was a business decision for costs i dont believe that ....i think they should bring darren back to afternoons he was to me a good mix to george and wille but its just my opinion and we all know what opinions are like......oh well

Should have moved Darren to that slot. Have you heard these guys? Ok no one has all together but from what I hear no one listened when they were on the air.....looks like another Zone blunder

No one listened? Look at the cumes! ClayNation and Overtime has done pretty well. If the Overtime Facebook page were still out there, you could see how well they did in terms of generating responses there, too. You can bet fighting-to-get-out-of-bankruptcy Citadel wouldn't sign off on the midday show if the numbers/potential ratio didn't look right... there's most likely already sponsors tied to it.

I hope it's better than the local shows that replaced Jim Rome on the Sports Aminal in Knoxville. I was in Knoxville a few weeks ago and the ones I heard during the Mid-day were pretty bad. Those guys made Darren McFarland sound like a pro. I will probably stay with Thom Abraham on Sports 56.

I guess it was time for them to do it. Ever since they brought Dan Patrick in and drop Fox Sports Radio for ESPN I figured Rome would be next.

I never liked the station to begin with as the only reason I listen was because of Rome; Now after listening to 5 minutes of their new show, I have an excuse to keep

104.5 out of my presets for good.

Another live local show means that same litany of Zone callers have another reason to call with repeated, tired, boring questions. "Hey y'all earlier today I called the morning show and asked this question: I wuz just wunderin' what d'y'all think of dumping VY's contract and drafting a quarterback? I'll hang up and listen off air. Then I'll call back on afternoon show. Thanks."

If a few miss Rome, we don't get into Nashville, due to 900 running off their backup tower (old WAMB tower).. They have their main still listed in Lebanon.. But if you are Cool Springs or south, Jim's on 910 in Columbia and streamed on www.910theduck.com .. Also, Patrick is live and not delayed...

"Skip" at the Fox Sports Animal...910/"TheDuck"

Ya know, Skip, I never really thought of Rome and Gospel co-existing on the same station. How's that workin' out for ya...

Thanks for the info Skip...after today I will tune your station in. Sure it was the first day but thank god I work in Cool Springs!

So has Rome been on the air telling listeners in Nashville to "bang your monkey" and bring his show back? I wonder if the "clones" are burning up WNSR's phone lines.

Seems Rome got the station more complaints than anything else they've ever aired, especially when he would condescend the SEC or some other Southern team/institution. I know some of you "clones" are transplants here and don't care about either, but he could only dis the home crowd for so long before enough was enough.

Part 2 is that Overtime and ClayNation did well enough in the evenings that it only makes sense to give these younger guys a daypart that would command greater advertising dollars. And if you have read any of Travis's stuff at all, you know he can be as opinionated as Rome, but Travis just isn't as acrimonious about it.

I would suppose people can call WNSR all they want, but I doubt they would dump Abraham for Rome.

But just so some of you folks out there will be happy, would the next station to flip, please air Rick and Bubba in the mornings, Jim Rome middays, and a local show with former market sportstalkers in the afternoons?

The only one of the "Sports Insider" show that I enjoyed listening to was the Tuesday shows with Jim Wyatt nad JohnMcLain and the Friday "High School Football" shows with Murphy Fair. The rest of the Sports Insiders show I could care less about, ESPECIALLY when Darren McFarland had the MMA/UFC shows on.

Heard Jim Wyatt still on 2-3:00 today, just with the new crew. Show had great interviews with Greg Williams and Bruce Pearl today. I agree with you on the MMA/UFC stuff. Hope that's off the air for good.

All ok, except we inherited ill-studio automation and equipment.. Spending money to fix automation.. Been the biggest headache of my radio career (on the studio).. Transmitter, air-chain and signal is best it has been in years.. Expansion is coming in a few months...... Fox clocks for Patrick and Rome are the only thing we must push buttons live once an hour.......Getting ads ready for Feb. runs.. Need to get Sales Manager on the street and not teaching me computers..... Only need to bill a few thousand to pay everything in here and at the apartment.....

JWK, enough with the Darren bashing, most of us would have forgotten he exsisted if it were not for you.

John McClain [sic] had interesting analysis, and an interesting choice of a regular guest, considering he writes for the Houston Chronicle. My guess is that he followed the Titans when they were previously the Houston Oilers.

I wasn't BASHING him on this post, I just stated I didn't care for the MMA(Mixed Martial Arts)/UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) shows he hosted during the slow parts of the year, before High school football and during the hockey off-season. But since you brought it up, I JUST DON"T UNDERSTAND why so many POSTERS on this board ARE SO ENAMORED WITH DARREN MCFARLAND!!!
