WAKE WHEN IT'S OVER!! adult comtemporary is boring!!

I disagree, before WCBS-FM was oldies they were Jack-FM and sounded nothing like WBPM in the Hudson Valley. However now WCBS-FM is oldies and they are not adult contemporary like New York's 106.7 or WHUD in the Hudson Valley.

sorry, i couldn't resist, off to disney world

Well CBS probably thought it was boring to see WLTW have those massive numbers month after month. If CBS-FM is as AC as you say they are it just goes to show their strategy is to try to squeze WLTW with FRESH on the lower end and CBS-FM on the upper. You may not like it personally, but at least they have some type of game plan.

haha... good one ;D

How many of the same dumb threds need to be started by the same person about not liking CBS-FM... keep posting in one thred and bumping it up, stop just making new threds everytime you have a free second to ponder you have nothing to do but complain about a format that wasn't here long and never did well.

CBS FM is far from being adult contemporary! The game plan of Dan Mason and CBS company is brilliant. They will squeeze WLTW on the high and low end with Fresh and CBS FM. CBS FM is going to be a huge ratings winner. Not only because of their music variety, but because of the media exposure to normal radio listeners who know nothing about these boards.

CBS FM does play a lot of songs that New Yorkers have not heard in years. Like I said, listen to the presentation and music - It is far from being a boring WLTW sound. I think Lite can kiss good bye to their former number 1 ratings position.

JACK was a far better station that I kept on almost all of the time. CBS-FM for me is painful to listen to and sounds like a 70s disco nostalgia station with a playlist sometimes too similiar to the old "Blink" or KTU. Bottomline it blows chunks.

This ratings period will see a boost because of JACK improvements and the publicity surrounding the fake return of oldies. By the time people realize oldies did not return and it is just this hacky DJ/hit crap, they will be well below JACK numbers by spring.

I would guess that you are in the heart of JACK"S target demo and not in CBS-FMs demo. That explains your reaction.

CBS has a lot of success with these types of Classic Hits stations, for example Philly (especially with PPM), Dallas, and Phoenix. I wouldn't bet against them.

Guess? His username pretty much gives it away!

Also add to it the fact he doesn't appreciate the original WCBS-FM.

That's the great thing about living in the U.S.A., you have the freedom of choice. If you don't like it, change stations.

(there, that was pretty simple and a lot more sensible and effective than logging-on here and carping about it)

I won't predict ratings. But, seeing as how I'm the APD of a successful Classic Hits station (though not done the exact way CBS-FM is doing it), I'll take your bet.

The original CBS-FM way back was not this classic hits garbage. I did in-fact appreciate the older 50's and 60s rock. But the new CBS-FM, all I have to say is "Disco Sucks". ;) Didn't CBS try this with "Blink" and failed. This is the same crap that has been beaten to death in NYC. Sounds like they are still able to fool people into believing the oldies station came back.

Oh, so let's get this straight: CBS-FM should never change, never evolve with the audience? Just making sure I'm reading your comments correctly, that CBS-FM should be playing a good dose of 50s and 60s as they did 25 years ago?

No, more like the issue is with "classic hits" and the selections they are playing. If the dugg deeper into any era I would probably still be listening. For example JACK did a fine job with the 80s selections.

Does anybody actually believe CBS-FM was playing any 50's music in the two years before it flipped to JACK??

Virtually none. This is just the aging mediocre DJs union making noise because they have to have something to whine about. ;)

Add to that:

The record collectors and oldies geeks who live in the 1950's. Which is ok to do if that's what one wants to do. It just doesn't give them license to criticize the radio business as broadcasting "experts" since they don't work in it.

And...

The mobile DJ's (who've never had a radio job) and part-time board operators and voice trackers at radio stations also on these boards who truly believe they know more than the boss, if only the darn consultant would get off their backs!

I actually think CBS-FM is a great listen and it's on when I'm in my car. I think the variety is quite listenable. I am a little disappointed with Broadway Bill, as I think he's sounded more lively on other stations I've heard him on (and I have the airchecks to prove it). Otherwise it's not bad. Granted, I listen to a wide variety ranging from Jazz, Classical, Pop/Rock/Oldies as well as Talk radio so I can't say I hang on one particular station for extended periods, but CBS-FM has a place for enjoyment.

I LOVE Bill Lee. I'd heard great things about him, but now that I've listened to him via streaming audio, I can honestly say he's the last of a dying breed on radio. A jock with a personality and schtick. What a concept.
