Where Is Rush Going To Go Now?

Rush/Hannity/Beck have never been hateful.

It's funny how people who don't listen to them think that they are. How the heck would you know if you don't listen? But the fact is, those guys never say anything hateful.

Uh... what planet do you live on?

I DON'T listen every day. I do tune in from time to time so see if anything has changed.

Tell me a broadcast that I can listen to that actually do say things that are hateful. I need to tune in and see what I have been missing. Maybe there is a whole new level of grungy-talk that I have missed out on.

The only public radio programs that WURD runs are Tavis Smiley's shows. Since PRI can sell those shows to commerical stations if there are no non-com buyers in a market, I don't think that's "partnering" with WHYY. And from all indications, they're a commercial station, so they can't get CPB money.

Both the WHYY and WURD websites list the other as "partners."

You forgot the third group. People who don't know jack about radio, yet continue to troll and tell lies on a daily basis.

Translation: Anyone you don't agree with. It's funny how some guy takes a six week radio course and manages to get a job for just over minimum wage in the boonies and assumes he "knows jack" about radio - especially about major market and national radio.

And if you are going to accuse anyone of lying, then you are obliged to provide proof that they lied. And for someone to have lied, not only do they have to make a statement contrary to fact, they have to have known it was contrary to fact and had an intent to deceive. So, where is your proof?

And stop twisting people's statements when you accuse them of lying. Nobody has said Rush (or anyone else in the big leagues of radio) has always used paid callers or that all callers are paid. So, if someone did get through and got on the air with Rush, that is no proof any other callers on the show were not paid (and told what to say).

For the record, I have no problem with Rush (or anyone else) using paid callers. This is show business. The show is for the listeners, not the callers. Rush has often said, it is the callers' job to make the host look good. If any paid callers do that, they've earned their fees. As I said, I have no problem with paid callers. I wonder why you do? Other than you don't get to use them. You also probably don't get to use screeners, board ops, researchers and writers either. Are they also bad?

Or can just not stand anything that makes your hero seem less than completely and extemporaneously brilliant?

I'm searching for a word. To "lie" requires that I KNOW what I said was false, but I wish to decieve you. In our modern day culture I don't know that people use the word with that "wish to deceive" requirement as part of their definition.

I'm searching for a word. You tell a lie. You know it is an untruth. I grab what you say, make no effort to determine whether it is true or not, and I pass it along to someone else as persuaisive argument... rather than knowing I am deciving. I have not checked the accuracy of the information, but I pass it along.

I am guilty of something. I have passed along false information. What is the word for what I have done?

1. Journalism. 2. Talk radio. 3. Advertising. 4. Politics.

Certainly looks like CBS has Premier pretty much by the short and curlies. Agreeing that 'PHT is wiser doing without the headaches of carriage fees. Were I to own a station, I, too, wouid pass on such stuff and keep things local. I'm squarely in the demo of Rush's audience but that type of radio gives me a migraine.

I'm ok with conservative talk but it's got to be interactive, real talk not someone lecturing to me as though his position is the only right position. Debate the issues with real callers not only accepting calls from those that just say, "Mega-dittos, etc. and the like." Also, show respect when you do receive a call from someone that disagrees with you. Don't yell them down.

I prefer local talk hosts as most are very respectful of their callers and aren't set on a specific platforms unlike the nationally syndicated talk hosts.

Josh,
We're both on the same page as regards the talk issue. When WVCH had Point of View with the late Marlon Maddoux, with Kerby Anderson taking over after Maddoux' passing, callers were treated with respect. Even though I may not have agreed with the political stance, the respect accorded to guests and callersmad the program very listenable, and enjoyable. Quite a change from the braying heard from Limbaugh et al.

Interesting that this thread got sidetracked from the original topic & nobody has commented for awhile on that topic even though I'd assume we're getting close to K-Love taking over 106.9 (anyone heard a date?). I guess listeners to the current format (except those who follow these boards) aren't aware it is going away soon & will be confused once it does unless some or all of the shows are picked up & advertised by billboard, newspaper, etc., but it appears even the concern for what will happen to Limbaugh locally on this board went away even before he did (no complaints here).

If we don't hear of a new deal for Rush before the handover date for WWIQ is announced, we'll know that there will be no new affiliate. Any and all deals are certain to be announced as soon as they are inked to give listeners as much time as possible to prepare for the change.

I will be stunned if WPHT airs Rush again. The days of their talk format in my opinion will be numbered if they get this show again.

That makes no sense whatsoever. WPHT's ratings were torpedoed when they lost the big three talk shows. They'd be absolute fools not to bring back Glenn, Rush & Sean. And seeing how bad their ratings have been without them, I can't imagine any scenario where they don't go back to the old lineup.

I should make a macro of this.

"Ratings mean nothing. Billings mean everything."

Even with lower ratings, the local shows are more profitable. Bringing back three expensive national shows they can't sell avails in would be stupid.

I still think it's possible Rush will go back to WPHT but the other two shows will not.

Then, yesterday, on my commute, I saw a new WPHT billboard: "Dick Morris, Monday through Friday 2-6 pm."

Hm. Made me wonder. Would they really advertise their LOCAL show, including the fact that it starts at 2 pm, if they were bringing back Rush? I guess the billboards could have been planned a while ago before the demise of IQ. But still ... hm.

I wouldn't wager any more than a small amount of money on what's going to happen on WPHT once 106.9 goes Christian AC. No matter what happens though, it will say something about the state of syndicated conservative radio talk, at least in the Philly market, if not more broadly.

If 1210 doesn't bring those shows back, should CBS change the format to something else, like sports to cut their losses from the talk format?

What makes you think they have losses? And what makes you think Rush will be back in this market? Closing date is getting close. Nobody is promoting Rush.

Then you've clearly never heard them say anything hateful.

Because they don't.

“Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”

“Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women access to the mainstream of society.”

"So Miss Fluke and the rest of you feminazis, here’s the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.”

Plenty more for you here- http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/03/08/35-hateful-and-stupid-rush-limbaugh-quotes/

There was no reason for Kidd Chris to be axed if things like this were still going to be broadcast on FM radio in this market.
And I think that new billboard seals the deal. Though I wouldn't say its 100 percent certain, the fact that CBS Radio is blowing money to actually ADVERTISE a TALK HOST, I do think that says a lot, which is good overall. Not that Morris is anything groundbreaking, but talk radio all around will be better off as the sun sets on Limbaugh. Hannity and Beck are the heir apparents. People looking for syndicated dittohead conservatism are covered. Now, perhaps talk stations will try to focus on local hosts who call out all liars and cheats on all sides of the political spectrum.

And perhaps the sky will turn green and grass will grow blue!
