WRKO Morning is the *Worst*

I need to vent. I'm consistently in awe that this passes for professional drive time morning radio. Cases in point:

Blaring heavy metal bumpers
It's 6AM for chrissakes, do I really need to be subjected to Cooksie's hair metal taste in music?

Someone get that poor woman a decongestant. My sinuses plug up every time she tries to mumble through the news.

Do they really have so few callers that she can get through every single day? Or do they have her on speed dial? Her voice makes dogs howl.

Every. Single. Commercial break. Sometimes twice (literally, I've heard Kuhner read a spot right after the commercial ran). Are their sales people lazy? Are spots that cheap? Oh and check out their BBB rating -- shady.

They coveted Eagan and Braude a little while back; signed Kuhner to replace Finneran and Whomever and put him on; WTKK changes and E&B wind up on public radio.
Not sure how long Kuhner is signed up for; at first I tried him out but he wasn't quite for me

Are they still running the ads with Sandy talking about Belmont Medical and sandals for summer? Howie's show is. It's November.
But they're obligated to run them, and can they please define pronation and suppination?

You have his speech patterns down pat. Whom else do they put on there, McPhee? Wouldn't it make sense to maybe partner
with Boston Herald Radio somehow...admittedly they changed Katz from a morning show to "commentator" but I'd take
Katz in the morning in an RKO/BHR simulcast (tuned in last night to BHR for Battenfeld, Cashman, Howie, Chabot (I think),
Rev. Rivers, Mayor Flynn etc)
 
Apparently it's his 1 yr anniversary with the station (or 1 yr of a reg. show). WRKO's facebook said "the mayor" (Menino impersonator) "called in"...it's a short podcast on the RKO site.
 
WRKO once had a sponsor that was a veterinarian. That's VET-ER-IN-AIR-EE-YAN (6 syllables). Kuhner read the spot and always said VET-IN-AIR-EE-YAN (left out one syllable). He's against gay marriage of course, but he said gay MAIR-ITCH. Poor Todd Feinburg. Until his last days at WRKO, he railed against immigrants who can't speak English taking away jobs. Then his job was taken away by an immigrant who can't speak English!

Even worse than turn in your old car to help fund religious indoctrination camps are the PSAs that equate vandalism*, videogame 'ownage' and hip-hop with "what it takes" to go to college.
*edit - maybe that was only on video.

"Oorah" is not just something that Marines yell. They're an organization that runs children's sleepover camps in the Catskills run by orthodox Jews trying to instill more orthodox Jewish beliefs in children of less-observant Jews, and Kars4Kids provides funding for the camps.
Maybe "indoctrination" was a bit hyperbolic. Perhaps it's because I'm not much of a big religion guy, but I think they could be more up-front about what the donations are going for. I'm still in the dark about what a Glavinator comment is.

The best show on WRKO, most intelligent hosts, civil conversations, no name calling, focus on interesting topics....

Money Matters... which is paid programming!

Now don't take this wrong because I like June Knight and she is doing great in Tampa, but the addition of Kim Karrigan to that show really raised the quality of the product up

She can interview people, she can discuss topics with Barry Armstrong, she adds quite a bit to the program....

As for Jeff in Morning drive, it is more that he is the Boston BullS***er than the Boston Bulldozer

I really can't wait for AM radio to die, or for everything on the band to go foreign language.

10 more months and Howie is gone, with WRKO right in back of it

Hey, I like Kuhner, so no complaint here.

BUT - I've already written to 'RKO re the poor-quality voice circuit used for Angela and Andy. Yes, they both sound very congested, but that's because the low-quality link from Total Traffic to 'RKO has little, if any, mid- to high-frequency response, necessary for "presence". In addition, both slur their words because they read to freakin' fast.
 
I don't know where to begin. But I have never despised on a talk show host more than this guy. I may be left leaning but I listen to and enjoy many conservative hosts. The guy really has a delusional opinion of himself. he actually believes that advisers to the President listen to his show online and that he is the reason that Obama chose not to go the Game 6 last week. The same 10 people call in every morning including Russ, who can be heard on RKO as many as three times a day. Sly, Maryann, Brenda and I have actually hear this old guy Mike on twice in one program.

The Kars for Kids spots are not PSA's but they do have unsold inventory every morning that is filled to PSA's from the Ad Council. Unsold inventory in the 4th quarter in morning drive is unheard of. Last week Kuhner was banging on about how he drove Ed Shultz out of DC and how successful his show was, I felt like calling in and asking why he still wasn't on in DC. I know the station he was on switched formats but if he was so good why didn't another DC/Virginia/Maryland station pick him up. I have seen his ratings in the Key demos and ERS and Frank FM in NH have more listeners than he does. The only demo he has any ratings to speak of is in the male 35 and 55 plus categories. I was told that spots are going for very short money an at times they are offering 2 for 1. All you have to o is listen to the type of sponsors he has to know they show is not highly rated.

Except for preaching to the choir of far right wing Tea Party Patriots he has had little impact so far. He has said on many occasions that Democrats at the State House and other Progressive activist are scared of him. I was at the Democratic State Convention last Spring and I asked several elected officials and campaign consultants what they thought of Kuhner, not one person had ever heard of him.

You may ask why I listen, I tune in while driving and only when another show is in a spot break.

Indeed, agreed.

As for comments about Howie being gone in a year, possibly but possibly not; do they continue talk and he, with just about nowhere to go (Boston Herald Radio? Hey, he already works for the paper) may just stick it out for whatever they can offer him. He's dreamed about moving to Florida (yeah do your show as a webstream only, but wouldn't you want to be closer to Boston to cover/comment on stories?)

Hmm, maybe I'm missing out on trainwreck radio by not listening! Sounds like he's got an overinflated view of his value. Yes it's true some listen to the likes of Rush or Howie (or even lib talk hosts) even if they disagree ("I think you're an idiot"--"OK caller, and how often do you listen?"--- "...Every day." Yes some do listen even if they really disagree!)

RKO making some pennies out of thim, in those demos, and they've found no reason to replace him (again E&B had to find a new home when TKK changed formats, but they didn't make a play to get them? Or maybe they did but got more $$ from GBH?)

Kuhner first entered my ears when he was filling in for Savage (not a fan of him but sometimes I'd check in out of curiosity). For awhile he seemed OK but no no no, those speech patterns, and he seemed a bit kooky and I don't know what I was doingk spendingk time to hear him...

Judging by your past posts...you seem to have a negative opinion of any conservative host.

Can you name a conservative host that you enjoy? Or one that you listen to regularly?
