92.3 amp radio?

So with hearing Robin S Show Me Love (the original 1991 Edit) is Amp going after KTU instead of Z100?

I'd say yes, based on the K-AMP Wikipedia page:

AMP Radio's playlist is based in a more rhythmic direction (featuring more Hip-Hop, R&B, Dance and Pop) than rock to compete with competitors KIIS, KPWR, KXOS, KXOL and KDAY.

While it's true that AMP NY will move in a more rhythmic direction (maybe a few more dance/EDM tracks for flavor), keep in mind that the format doesn't officially relaunch until 2PM ET Fri. 5/22/14. Thus, until that time, there's lots of recurrents (even tunes that are just plain "old" for the CHR format) playing "NOW" flushing the format in preparation to get "AMP"-ed later. I'd suspect that there'll be a tight rotation of currents post-launch.

As mentioned in another thread, the spot load was rather high on Wednesday 5/21/14 after the jock purge. Likely this was because CBS wanted to get in as many spots as possible pre-launch (kind of a make-good deal for the advertisers) so they could go with fewer spots post-launch.

As pointed out above, it's also about national branding for the AMP format. CBS Radio can sell the CHR brand "AMP" in multiple markets (L.A., Detroit, Boston, Orlando) to advertisers easier than the generic "NOW" which is used by multiple operators for various incarnations of CHR. (CBS does use "Energy 103.7" for its CHR in San Diego, though, likely due to its close proximity to KAMP L.A.)

I'm listening via the stream...I hadn't listened to 92.3 NY via stream for any extended period of time until today. Sounds really "bassy" - very "phat bottom" sound that almost swallows up the total package. I checked the other AMP-branded streams and while they're bassier than most others, none is as prominent as 92.3 NY's.
Waiting for erwin33 to respond. ;)

Calvin Harris - "Summer" kicks off the new 92.3 AMP at about 2:03-2:04PM ET Thu. 5/22/14 followed by Iggy Azalea's "Fancy", Lucenzo/Don Omar's "Danza Kuduro" (a song they played frequently as "Now") and Tiesto/Matthew Koma's "Wasted".
Thus, they've hit on the three artists mentioned in the press release within the first 4 songs.

Eminem's "Lose Yourself" was the last song before the format "change" at 2PM.

A montage of song clips played intermingled with "New Yorkers-on-the-street" clips at launch. (Similar to other AMP Radio launches.)
92~3 Amp Radio promises commercial-free weekends all summer.
Promo leading into the Tiesto/Matthew Koma song touts "New York's New Music First" (or similar wording).

Since the website reopened with its new address http://www.923ampradiony.com (which opens as http://923amp.cbslocal.com),
the station events link has reopened.

Apparently there'll be station personnel (DJ Yonny, DJ Toro) at Memorial Day weekend events around town:

More on the commercial-free weekends through Labor Day weekend 2014
(5PM Friday-Midnight Sunday night - likely through Midnight on Monday night Memorial Day and Labor Day):

The AMP stream has also lot's of level issues and it sounds like a compressor/limiter drops off. Sounds very restless.

Barely any mention of this on the dentist board. I guess if it doesn't happen on the AM band, or maybe CBS-FM, Q104.3 or The Peak, it doesn't exist for the Baby Boomers over there.

So far, since I had started the post, I'd like to know what is the general response for AMP Radio? Is it better or worse than before?

In my opinion, if it matters, the station is more presentable without any DJs that aren't ruining the listening experience.

It also looks like they are taking a page out of my book in playing songs listeners haven't heard in a while. While they still play songs repeatedly, it's not like it was a few days ago with NOW. I like the imaging which I am sure will get better with DJs.

I believe that at some point, CBS has asked Boston's AMP morning show to either syndicate their show with AMP radio in NY or move to NY and do their show here. The latter seems like a better option because NY listeners know them from Elvis Duran and perhaps they can find an audience with their energy and experience to make a morning show finally work for the station. That would be my play, move the TJ show with Loren from Boston to NYC and take it from there.

Thoughts about the stations? Good, bad, the same?

I'm not impressed at all. They just tweaked the format and got rid of the dj's. I don't think they actually intend to keep this format, I think they're just trying a different version of it for a while before they flip it (hopefully to rock). They've had over 5 years to try to make this format successful but haven't been able to. I wouldn't be too shocked if they try to kept the format for another few years. Radio execs aren't always the brightest.
My opinions of the station? It never had any soul. It's always been bland, boring, and just not a fit for NY.

And all of what you explain is why they brought in a new PD, changed the name and are modifying the music blend.

I don't think the blend is that different. They've done tweaks before. Why not bring in a new PD earlier? They've had 5 years of horrible ratings, since they launched. My opinion is that there are just too many pop/chr stations in NY. Not to mention their demo gets most of their music and entertainment elsewhere.

I still believe 92.3 had a shot if they went with the memo of 97.1 LA from the beginning. A Pulse on 92.3 would be better.

Rick Gillette was brought in from CBS Radio's successful Phoenix stations (KZON + KOOL) in March 2012 (he left in November 2013).
Dom Theodore was the prior PD from startup in 2009 to 2012.

Rick Thomas (from CBS L.A.'s KRTH + KTWV) was announced as the current PD on May 1, 2014.

CBS Radio has definitely tried to make a go of it at 92~3 -
Remember the "personality" approach in the early days (Chunky, for example)...
Followed by the jocks with more of a rhythmic/dance lean with mixshows added...
Nick Cannon followed by Ty Bentli (who had been successful in Chicago + L.A.) in mornings...

Sometimes things just don't work despite the numerous tweaks.

I agree. So isn't it time to try something different? Something like alternative rock, which had lots of traction on 101.9 before the station was sold.
