The Bull about 101.7

WEDX's AAC stream just switched (in the middle of a voicetracked weather report) to their 107.9HD2/IHeartRadio feed at 2pm ET. Weird to hear the same DJ voicetracks overlapping for a moment.

Well

they will Last 6 months then a flip to Christmas music will take Place Only to Be replaced on Jan 1st 2015 with a talk format
Lets see if i am right

Clear Channel ran a talk format on 1200-AM, but it totally flopped. Remember? Anyway "The Bull" is already generating discussions on three threads. WUFC not so much. Is "The Bull" the new "Harbor?" A hold-over format for something else?

My gut also tells me that this is the case. Boston has never been able to support two country stations. Unless "The Bull" has a unique twist to the format that would take a serious bite out of WKLB (signal not withstanding)--it's probably a "holdover" format as was "The Harbor".

The "commercial free all summer" promise on their website also would seem to indicate that there is really no marketing or sales plan in place or being developed.

my sources at Greater Media told me officially they are publicly ignoring the upstart, including on social media.

Live and Local is going to beat voice tracked. Why CCM&E even bothered buying that signal still has me scratching my head...

I'd expect GM to ignore them. I understand they're running promos
saying we want to be your country station..don't
worry your parents will still have their country
station (...yup)

I would expect that WKLB wouldn't counter punch a small signal inner city station. I don't know why CC would do this. WKLB (WCLB) has been around for more than 20 years.

Maybe going after male listeners, younger ones.
There may be 1 or 2 local DJs, if at all. Low
budget, again going after some KLB listeners.
Signal ok within 128 but not full market. Maybe
Kiss and Jamn are big money makers but hey
is this signal worth the $14.5M they paid for it?

The big irony of the sale of what had been FNX
was that the company's big Occupy/anti big corporation
push is who they sold it to: Clear Channel

is there a way to improve the signal so they can actually compete?? country is big here having two stations will be great.

Exactly. So, in other words, it was pointless to remove Evolution from the frequency. I'm seeing a lot of younger friends all over Boston venting about the change over Facebook.

The "commercial free all summer" is a way to Bulid cume

Following that logic, why try to build cume on a product you're going to dump anyway? Going commercial-free for 3+ months is costly!!! Virtually no advance promotion of a flip to country, and the ribbon that says "commercial free all summer" looks suspiciously like the same one that was used on the "Harbor" website. In fact, it looks like EXACTLY the same one. CC may be able to fool the listening public twice, but I don't think they can fool radio folks the same way. Or can they? It remains to be seen. I still think "placeholder" or stunting here. OR...they are working on dumping the frequency FAST, so they're putting something on that at least will have some "curb appeal" to a potential buyer. Who knows?

Sorry folks...I have a feeling country is here to stay. It's a big priority at Clear Channel and Premiere. WKLB once carried CC's After Midnite show, but recently dropped it. CC needs to get a Boston clear for After Midnight and their morning Bobby Bones show. Boston people may like Bobby since he's not a real country fan, but a young former alternative jock from Austin. CC is also in a tough competition with Cumulus in the country format, and getting Boston gives them a market Cumulus can't get.

Why yes! Of course! Using the same thought process that they used for Talk 1200 to clear Hannity, Beck and Limbaugh! And....how long did that last? Limbaugh is back on WRKO, and Hannity/Beck are elsewhere on signals no one listens to.

History repeats.

The difference being that country is a hot, young format, and talk is dying.

The 101.7 signal cannot possibly compete. It's a waste of time. You'll see.

It wasn't competing with EDM. Anything they put on it will be an improvement. Country is a big focus of the company. They can do it cheaply and easily, and get listeners when KLB is running spots. I've seen them do this in lots of markets. This format is here to stay.
