Is the "holiday" season now the only time the broadcast networks even air full length movies? When a station pre-empts network programming, it gets more time to sell local ads. They can sell a lot of ads when 2 hour bomb no one remembers.
In New Orleans, WWL-TV 4 (CBS) which is owned by Belo doesn't air the early show, WUPL 54 airs the CBS early show. WUPL will soon will be a belo station also.
WRTV in Indianapolis did a similar thing with the [Friday] 9:30pm slot by carrying "She's the Sheriff" in place of whatever ABC aired.
last night, the NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway was moved from the schedule network to broadcast the race NBC to it's cable sister network NBCSN (due to rain in North Texas pushing the start of the race to 6 PM due to the rain and the long track drying process at TMS) because NBC airs Sunday Night Football and Football is more important then the final 3 races of the NASCAR season , however, in the DFW area, KXAS NBC 5, the local NBC station moved the coverage (by simulcasting NBCSN's coverage of the race) to it's 5.2 subchannel so those in North Texas who don't have NBCSN could see the race.
I'm pretty sure it is in the NASCAR contract with NBC that the NFL gets priority. Last years Phoenix race the same thing happened (it rains in Phoenix???? Who knew)![]()
YouTube had them! The one pre-empted, and the one the night I didn't know my cable was out until it was too late. I was told by someone they get around the copyright violation rules by making the video something different from what originally aired. One episode had a lion taking up much of the screen and the show in the lower left corner, and music and sound effects were really high pitched, though unlike on "Saving Hope", a Canadian series I like, Alex Trebek was not talking like a munchkin.Candidates for N.C. governor debated October 11. I think every station in the state aired this. Which is ridiculous. Pick one station in each market. I should have investigated whether the "Jeopardy" episode I missed is available somewhere because I can't be sure that one will be one of the Saturday reruns.
How is this "inexplicable"???In Pittsburgh, WTAE is pushing Michigan-Ohio State ("The Game") to ThisTV (4.2) so 4.1 can air the more locally important Syracuse-Pitt.
*Where was KPIX?
Lots of red faces at KPIX, I'm sure, at PIX--where were they? Nowhere --until late into the game.

Even as the story was getting more serious and garnering more attention from both local and national and international outlets, KPIX (the CBS O and O) was running regular programming. Even when college football was on the net screen, KPIX didn't even offer an update on the situation.
Even more embarrassing when PIX finally had reporters on scene in Oakland, information broadcast was old news.
*As bad as Channel 5, it couldn't beat KRON's woeful action of running canned programming, (like, for instance, "Dog Town USA") At KRON, who the heck is minding the store? Uh, maybe nobody; even mediocre-challenged KRON should be ashamed of itself particularly when, early on, it was a very capable outlet.
*Yes, what you saw was correct. The major stations in town began using their star anchors; Somerville, KNTV's Raj Mathai, (who reported, solo, direct from the scene) Dan Noyes from KGO (ABC7)
People on the Facebook Page for NECN (New England Cable News) were complaining that NECN was running infomercials yesterday instead of wall-to-wall coverage of the massive fire in Cambridge, Mass.

The Oakland Fire issue and its media criticism by 415 media. 415 media was complaining why CBS O&O didn't go wall to wall with the Oakland warehouse fire. But the KPIX News staff did go wall to wall with the Warehouse fire on CBSN feed. I saw them via CBS News app and aired press conferences from Oakland police via CBS N.

This preempts Leicester-Manchester City on NBC, as well as the first part of the Ironman Triathlon.
