105.3 on air

IIRC, this would be the 3rd time that KTWL needs to do this.

At some point, the FCC has got to say "enough is enough"

Wonder if K287BQ is changing their power throughout the day... was able to pick up KTWL yesterday afternoon, but on my drive home at ~7:00 PM, K287BQ came blaring in. KTWL is coming in rather well again this morning.

Seems the power has been cut back slightly on K287BQ... I drove down FM 2920 from 290 to I-45 yesterday afternoon. I was getting occasional signs of KTWL, but the signals were mostly battling each other, rather than the constant K287BQ overpowering experienced before. Guess K287BQ still needs to cut the power back a bit more.

From inside sources:
There may be more FCC action very shortly, possibly shutting down K287BQ due to failure to address the interference issue.

I feel bad for Radio Dabang. I don't know if they were mislead or walked into this lease knowing this was always a possibility. Centro should have been more aggressive in addressing interference by moving frequencies or going very directional.

Yes, those would have been appropriate actions. Up to this point, however, playing by the rules seemingly hasn't been something these groups who only own translators seem particularly interested in doing.

Personally, I'm hoping for revocation. It might serve as a very necessary wake up call for translator owners nationwide who flaunt the rules.

These translator owners need to come to grips with the fact that they've been granted licenses for 250W translators, not full class A or C3 stations. Given how these things operated before being fully moved in, they're extraordinarily lucky to have their 250W.

... or admitting that there is no way they can protect the full facilities in the Houston areas while achieving the kind of coverage they dream of having. They need to lessen their expectations and to comply with the FCC mandate to eliminate interference.

I checked KTBZ HD-3 (Radio Dabang origination) this morning. It is now mostly decoding, though there was one 20 second dropout. Perhaps some variant of the extended hybrid mode described earlier in this thread that is easier for standard HD receivers to lock onto. No issues with the HD-1 or HD-2.

Interestingly, the HD-3 audio is about 90 seconds behind the audio on 105.3.

Speaking of which, that little directional 92.5 translator can be heard loud and clear in Spring.

Maybe the FCC needs to come pay a visit to all of Centro's stations. They sure seem to get a lot of coverage out of 30 watts.

And that one is directionalized away from Spring, no less.

Maybe their excuse is they are using metric measurements.

A lot of these translators are putting out way too much power. "Pirates in the name of Jesus" Spanish religious. Maybe - they should check their Bibles again before violating the law.

Or classic hits by someone who claims to be a minister...what a joke...

I would roughly equate classic hits to the late album / cassette / early music video eras. Stations that program more than two decades are ones I would classify as eclectic - counting on the listener to be old enough to appreciate music from several decades - equally. I personally would like to see eclectic stations slide the window of time up and down by time of day - using whatever rationale makes sense to them. That way if a late 50's, 60's, and early 70's fan tunes in, the don't hear songs they can't stand from the rap era. "Baby Got Back" doesn't play well next to "Going to the Chapel". Both have their fans, but those fans don't overlap. I am getting experience in this generating a playlist for my granddaughter. A curious thing happens - here is a blank slate, a new person that has never heard music before. I play different eras - because there is talent in just about all of them. But - she has a real liking for the 50's and 60's. And it isn't just because I played them to her. Her mother plays country, top-40, and she doesn't like it. I play 60's, she comes alive, tries to sing, dances, moves to the music. Maybe it is just structurally simpler or something. Maybe she has an innate taste that leans that way. When I try to add similar music from the 80's, 89's, today - she doesn't like it. Interesting because musically I can find things that are very similar. It sounds strange to me when I play it, but that's because I know the dates. I am facing forward away from her in the car, so there are zero facial clues. She knows when something doesn't sound right. And I can find no scientific reason for it! So - off go the 80's and above, off goes the Contemporary Christian, off goes the country - and she is happy. What is going on? I haven't a clue! My daughter had her favorites when she was the same age. She even became the youngest music director on the radio when she broke away from mommy, marched into the studio - heard a song she didn't like - and hit the eject button on the CD player (this was 20 years ago). She knew from the CD label that her favorite song was next. Those of you from the CD era of radio know - once the eject button is pressed - DEAD AIR - better start talking! I made light of it on air, let her babble a few words in the mike, then played her favorite song. After that mommy get a firmer grip on her while we were on the air.

Either the overachieving Centro translators are having technical difficulties or they've lowered their power down. No stereo carriers on 94.1, 105.3, and 104.5. Their other translator is weaker than before as well, but still going beyond their highly directional pattern.

I am getting dead air and a stereo pilot on 105.3... Astros baseball en espanol on 94.1, and banda on 104.5.

Seems like KTBZ-HD2 is now rebroadcasting KTRH 740 as of this afternoon. A quick scan down the dial didn't turn up K283CH on any of the iHeart HD subchannels or on any AM.

Interestingly, the same content heard on K283CH was also heard temporarily on 880 AM over the weekend. Wasn't there this afternoon as 880 had different music on the air.

Anyone able to find the originating channel that K283CH is rebroadcasting or is this now an illegal broadcast?

Maybe they are now broadcasting from KJOZ 880am now? They're are also simulcasting on K237AL on 102.5 FM covering parts of HUNTSVILLE TX.

So 104.5 is Spanish Music, what are 94.1 and 105.3 playing? And is 97.3 still off?
