For pure news watchers, this is a disaster. Because the repetition of news stories is quick and fast. That said, most viewers are not "pure" news watchers, instead tuning in for 10-20 minutes in the morning on average. It is the old "give us 20 minutes and we will give you the world", to use the phrase of all-news radio stations. The ROI is positive with these long newscasts, so they do it and continue to expand. However, NBC learned a lesson with the ill-fated Megyn Kelly hour, but that is a little outside the window of local news channels needing to fill time in the morning, like most Fox affiliates, and other rogue stations that pick up their local ABC, NBC, or CBS news product during the network prime time morning hours.
