FOX/Disney deal

The new YES construct will allow the Yankees to have programming with a greater footprint on both broadcasting (Sinclair) and over-the-top (Amazon),

It depends what Sinclair does with Yankee content. Can't imagine the folks in Baltimore will watch.

But if they end up owning WPIX, that will be huge.

I can't see anything other than the over the air games on WPIX. Being the same market I can't see the YES aired games on WPIX.

It does sound like MLB is loosening it's hold on streaming rights. So will we see Yankee games streamed nationally on Amazon with no blackout restrictions.

I think the Yankees can only control their side of the equation. If they're playing the Royals, and I live in KC, the Royals should be able to black it out, no?

The other question is what happens to Yankee games on the MLB channel? Does that black out local access?

The way it works now, FoxSportsgo works with your cable subscription. So you can watch as long as you are logged in. As long as your home market is in the local viewing area you can stream.

From what I gather from Forbes, Amazon will have national streaming rights. But I assume a local market will have the option to black out.

Disney-Fox deal to be official 3/20/2019

With the Disney-Fox deal to be finalized in less than a week, I have some questions in that regard:

1. What will be the name of production company 20th Century Fox Television?

2. What will become of distributors Disney/ABC Home Entertainment & Television Distribution and 20th Television? Will they merge or stay separate?

3. Will "New Fox" open up a new production company and/or distributor?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Corporation

"New Fox" the company that contains Fox Owned stations, Fox News and Fox Sports is listed as Fox Corporation.

https://www.latimes.com/business/hollywood/la-fi-ct-fox-tca-20180802-story.html

Here are the Implications that could happen at Fox Corporation.

Walden said that will free the network from favoring programs created by a studio owned by its corporate parent over other projects that come from outside production entities such as Lionsgate, MGM, Warner Bros. and Sony, none of which are aligned with major broadcast networks.

“We want to be their first choice at the big four networks,” she said.

For nearly 25 years, federal regulations limited how much programming a broadcast network could own. Once those rules were abolished in 1993, Disney acquired ABC, NBC bought Universal Studios and Viacom merged with CBS. (The still nascent Fox network was not subject to the rule due to the limited number of hours it broadcast at the time).

The rule change allowed networks to become profit participants in the prime-time series programs they put on their air, giving their parent companies the chance to benefit from revenues generated by selling repeats to TV stations and cable networks, international broadcasters and, more recently, streaming services. The networks have been filling their schedules with those programs ever since, with ownership often being a deciding factor in the pick-up of a series.

I believe 20th Century Fox will stay as a separate division of Disney. I don't think they are merging studios, at least not yet.

to answer your questions:

1. most likely to retain it's 20th Century Fox Television name, if anything TV production wise under the Disney umbrella post Fox merger gets a name change, it will most likely be ABC Studio (formerly Touchstone Television) & ABC Entertainment being consolidated into 20th Century Fox and all of the ABC Studio & ABC Entertainment produced shows would be unified with the 20th Century Fox banner.

2. most likely the 2 distributors would merge under the 20th Century Fox/ 20th Century name.

3. possibly not. but i could see them do it if say, they were to be bought out or merged with a ever so growing broadcaster like Sinclair Broadcasting Group, Nexstar Media Group, Tegna, Hearst Television, E.W. Scripps Company, or even IHeartMedia (if they decided to return to owning TV stations after they emerge from Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection as IHM used to own TV stations when they were still "Clear Channel Communications").

John Malone is named as a candidate to get the Fox RSN's

Jimmy Dolan may soon have a bidder for MSG Networks, which broadcasts games for the New York Knicks, the Rangers and the Islanders.

Dolan’s old pal John Malone is said to be eyeing the regional cable and satellite TV network as part of his master plan to own regional sports networks from Miami to New York, sources said.

Malone is the billionaire owner of Liberty Media, which owns SiriusXM and the Atlanta Braves. He is currently in the mix to buy 21 Fox-owned regional sports channels, including SportsTime Ohio and Fox Sports Florida, that Disney is selling as a regulatory condition of its $71 billion merger with Twenty-First Century Fox.

If Malone, 78, succeeds in buying the Fox RSNs, he will soon turn his attention to New York, analysts said.

What does all this with the merger mean to Fox Viewers? What will happen to our local fox network in houston? Fox 26 houston? And what will happen to My 20 Vision in houston?

Im curious how these new RSN's will be branded. Will they get to license the Fox Sports name or will these all have to get relaunched right away.

Fox Corp. is expected to keep a low profile on day one, other than the announcement of members of its board of directors. Anne Dias, founder of Aragon Global Holdings, and Roland Hernandez, CEO of Hernandez Media Ventures and former head of Telemundo Media Group, also join Fox controlling shareholders Rupert Mudoch and Lachlan Murdoch on the board along with another former 21st Century Fox board member, longtime Ford Motor Co. exec Jacques Nasser.
