Songs taken off playlists during the Coronavirus saga

Back after 9/11, iHeart and other companies had a list of songs deemed not suitable for airplay. Has anything happened like that now?

"Another One Bites The Dust" by Queen, "End of the World" by Skeeter Davis and "It's the End of the World as We Know It" by R.E.M., were on the 9/11 list, and would probably apply now too.

here are the Rock/Metal songs I think off the top of my head that shouldn't be playing during the pandemic out of sensitivity for the sick and the dead.

Disturbed-The Sickness (title says it all).

Ghost- Rats (song is possibly about the Black Death plauge of the 1500ths).

Metallica- Four Horsemen (out of apocalypse fars from this virus) & Creeping Death (the virus is consider creeping death to the elderly and those with compromised immune systems as the death rate is higher in those goods).

Don't Stand So Close to Me -- Police
Doctor, Doctor -- Thompson Twins
Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu -- Johnny Rivers
Social Disease -- Elton John
Bad Medicine -- Bon Jovi
I Want a New Drug -- Huey Lewis and the News
Fever -- McCoys
Medicine Man -- Buchanan Brothers
I Wanna Be Sedated -- Ramones

Interesting topic. I'd probably start with this one:

Assuming anyone still plays it.

Heck, I play BOTH the Smiley Lewis AND Huey "Piano" Smith & the Clowns versions (MAYBE Johnny Rivers once in a blue moon.....!).
OK.....I'll probably "lay low" with this until COVID-19 eases off.....;)
How about "Me and Julio....." by Paul Simon???? He mentions "Rosie, Queen of Corona....."???!

"Fever" is a song by Peggy Lee. Few stations would be playing it anyway.

I saw lyrics to "My Corona" (tune "My Sharona" by The Knack) on a web site. I don't know if it's a real song that would have been recorded.

I've seen them in various places. I never did care for Weird Al's parodies but I suppose it could be one of his. Probably not, though, not this early in the situation.

I've also seen "brackets" for a disease "tournament" posted, for basketball fans who miss the NCAAs. The first round matchups are Coronavirus-Chicken Pox, Measles-Polio, SARS-Strep, Cholera-Influenza, Ebola-Mumps, Malaria-Zika, Smallpox-Rubella and Botulism-Swine Flu. Chicken pox and mumps don't have a chance, but rubella or polio could spring an early upset.

On another site I saw Weird Al has done a song that would b appropriate in this situation, but no word on whether he actually performed "My Corona". he's already done "My Bologna", which I think was his first parody.

I also saw brackets on that site but they were activities people were doing instead of sports.

I’ll be the contrarian here. Who cares? What does it matter? Really hearing a song about being sick is out of line? This will make the virus worse? Nonsense IMO. Let the music play!

Lighten up, Francis! It doesn't matter one whit. It doesn't make anyone else sick, nor does it cure anyone. But why not have some fun with it? It's not at anybody's expense.

Oh, BTW... one more: School's Out -- Alice Cooper

To be honest, I don't know that anyone is doing this. I haven't heard of anyone. But it's a fun game to play on a message board.

Maybe there are songs that might be "too soon" for some people to hear, just like there are jokes and bits "too soon" after certain events and notable deaths. Now I'm not one of the "PC Police", but I thought people might like to know input on where the line is in case they work at a station.
