English music on 105.3

You think those translators' operators are reading these forums?
Perhaps let them know you want them legal, or complain to the FCC. Or both.

you seem to think station staff of various stations read these forums, you post on here about stations technical maladies thinking that'll get some attention and get them fixed.

The owners probably don't read this but I can guarantee you the staff and tenants leasing this
Questionable signals do read them. La Caliente 104.5 and and Radio Dabang 99.5FM should be worried.

I would say the entity that should be worried is the licensee. Those leasing the translator are the mere tenants and won't be held accountable for any infraction of the licensee.

Yes but they have spent time and money to build their brand and because of someone else’s selfishness they loose capital in a time where we are dealing with job losses and pandemic. Hopefully they read these post, we are already going through hard times as it is.

I do not know about the Radio Dabang operation, but the Caliente one is a bunch of wannabees and people who were let go at the major stations. It has been inconsistent, strangely programmed and has not gotten any ratings it could monetize. It is hard to believe that one could say they built a brand because they haven't.

David you made my day "wannabeeees" lol! La Caliente 104.5 is broadcasting illegally with no HD channel. Radio Dabang is also illegal on 99.5fm . La Caliente has "el guey" who came from Liberman Broadcasting and might help them on the revenue side.

Considering Dabang and Caliente are clients of the licensees (owners of the translators) please explain the client's 'illegal activity'.

Talent, unless it is Raul Brindis, is not important for Spanish language radio buys. And certainly, nobody from the now metamorphosed and Lenard-less LBI is going to be of any importance to advertisers.

In most cases the tenant is required to pay the HD channel. If that's not the case with "la Caliente 104.5" and "radio Dabang 99.5" they still loose about 400k or more in rental fees for prior years. The License holder obviously doesn't care.

David it might not be important but I guarantee you it keeps the lights on. For a translator talent like "el Guey" to bring 50k-100k cash every month is good money. Is not 950k monthly Raul Brindis revenue but it sure helps.

KLTN billed almost $17 million last year. That translator doesn't get agency buys or anything else significant.

Even the Estrella Media stations do less than $500 k a month. A translator with no real ratings is not going to do much at all. And yes, subscribers can see the HD plus Translator numbers, even if they are not themselves subscribers.

The only HD-2 or 3 channels to get numbers are the ones on KMJQ and KUHF.

I completely agree. For a small transalator like 104.5 to catch the low hanging fruit (100k-150k monthly) is a good deal. KLTN and KLOL should not be in the same conversation as 104.5 "la caliente"

David you seem to know a lot about what works and what does not. What Spanish network or major station are you programming?

All broadcasting outside of their licensed specs, of course?

No, all licensed with a minimum power of 10 kw ERP and maximum of 200 kw ERP for each of them; the licensee can determine the site and the power for optimum coverage locally in each market and the best integration with all the other transmitters to get close to seamless national coverage.

They later plan to supplement with solar-powered low power stations along major highways in areas too far to cover well with the city area signals. Likely they will install from 50 to 100 of those, but that is a stage II project once the network is on the air at at least 80% of the main sites.

Gee, I was going to tell him about the new network based in Santa Cruz with 30 repeaters in every significant city that I am working on...

I assume you mean Bolivia's largest city? (lots of places with the same name.) Completely new operation or an upgrade/expansion of an existing station or network?

Googled some pictures of Santa Cruz, did not realize how much it has grown recently. Very dynamic, looks like an interesting place to visit.

As an aside, shortwave has almost completely disappeared in Bolivia. There were about ten stations left when I last counted in 2018, but I think most are gone now...
