Post your latest DX

Excellent conditions so far this evening on the AM band here in Chicago. Many Cubans and Mexicans with good signals noted. Also had Spain on 684 kHz fading in and out at 8 pm CST.
Great catch! How hard was Spain to get? Did you need to narrow the bandwidth to eliminate hash from 680 and 690, etc?

This morning here in Overland Park, Kansas from 3:50 to 4:10am CST, I received a listenable CBK on 540 kHz, a rare occurrence here at 1,183 miles. There was a consistent low hum present. Perhaps, a het from a nearby frequency of offshore origin.

It wasn't easy. After seeing tips on Facebook that Spain was coming in very well on the east coast and also that 684 kHz was heard in Michigan I decided to give it a try. I tuned in at around 7:30 pm CST and there was a faint signal present. The signal was fading in and out quite a bit. Around 7:50 the signal faded in quite well where I was able to determine that the language was Spanish and the programming was English pop songs, which I was able to match to the Radio Nacional stream. I was using the 4 kHz bandwidth setting on my radio to hear the station. I tried for the other Spanish stations that are usually heard in North America. I had a very faint signal on 585 kHz, but not enough to get an ID. Nothing was noticed on 855 kHz.

I think I heard it yesterday evening here in Chicago.. a Canadian news station on 540 and that's the most likely option (There's a 10 KW news station in Newfoundland on 540 but I'd say that is highly unlikely). This would be the first time I'd ever heard it at my home location, though I've heard it before away from the buildings here.

For most of the last decade CBK was the dominant signal on 540 at my locattion 40 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. Not so much for the past year or two. Not so much within the last year or so, with WAUK (Milwaukee area) mostly on top. I don't think WAUK has gotten stronger. CBK is still present as often as not, but it seems to be underperforming.

Great work. Congrats!

You are right. CBK used to dominate 540, however this has not been the case the last few years. However the past two weeks I have noticed them with fair to good signals on top of WAUK.

As for Newfoundland's CBT, it is a tough station to hear, but it has been done by DXers in the Chicago area. The first time I heard them was in 2002, and I have only heard them once since.

I have finally bagged the LAST Saskatchewan full-power AM I need.

570 - CKSW SK, Swift Current; for many years I had only heard (surprisingly) their graveyard relay in Shaunavon on 1490, CJSN. Now heard on their main transmitter at 570 with Russell Dickerson song 'Every Little Thing' and weak CKSW ID under KVI at 0047 PT (12:47AM) 1/27. This is the 18th of 18 Saskatchewan full-power (CBC 40w relays, if any, excluded) stations in my logbook! NEW #803, 10KW at 619 miles. This was a toughie as CKSW just didn't have the power towards me at night, but thankfully they are in the logbook, safe and sound.

Also heard 1210 KRSV Afton WY (250 watts) with ID 'The Spur' and country music.

Las Vegas coming in decently this evening, on 670 (non-sports talk in KBOI's null) and 840 (KXNT w ID). On my RF-B45 and a loop.

RE: CBK: I think something has changed -- either in overall propagation, or their plant somewhere, because they used to be a lot stronger. Was my farthest daytime DX, early last decade. And they used to come in at S4 nearly every morning, on a Superadio without help of a loop.

CBK-540 is coming in pretty well at SLC tonight...just some rapid noise/propo flutter. I wonder if their ears were burning?

DX ALERT

WHAS 840 is off the air! If you need anything interesting on 840 now's the time to do it!

There's a DX test tonight! KCUP 1230 in Toledo, Ore., will test with sweep tones, morse code and IDs from 1-9 a.m. ET Sat night/Sun morning. How far can 1 kw on a jammed graveyard channel go? Here's one way to find out.

KCUP not needed here, re-logged several times. But will listen for the sweeps and CW regardless.

Just snagged another new one

1280 - KBNO CO, Denver; with very weak ID 'Que Bueno' and Regional Mexican music mixed with several others, at 1921 PT (7:21PM) 1/30. NEW #804, 5KW at 930 miles. Another one I've been hunting for years, finally nabbed 'em.

KGFX-1060 SD, KFAB-1110 NE, KHTS-1220 CA (500W), tentative XEB-1220 DF and CHHA-1610 ON being heard tonight as well, so conditions should be ripe for KCUP to be heard in the Intermountain West and possibly parts of the Midwest. Good luck to all...
