Discovery, Warner Media merger in the works.

this might be bad news for AEW as they have a TV network on TNT, one of the networks owned by one half of the soon to be merging mega-content maker, as with WCW (which was owned by Turner when it merged into TimeWarner) they were completely impacted hard by the failed AOLTimeWarner merger of the early 2000s, as with that merger, WCW had become so much of a money pit and having TV Ratings and legal issues (they were sued by talent who were also minority i.e. Asian, Hispanic and Black talent for racism) as well as the huge contract of talent who defected from WWE (then WWF) to WCW for a bigger payday after WCW signed Hulk Hogan in 1994, which triggered the start of WCW's rise and later contributed to it's downfall, AOLTimeWarner wanted out of the wrestling business and planned on selling it in late 2000/early 2001, but the actual death came at the hands of one executive hired to oversee TNT & TBS, he decided to canceled WCW cause TV ratings were bad and he felt that wrestling was no longer a fit on "his networks" so therefore, it killed a plan of a group of investors including Eric Bischoff to buy WCW out, as the thing that killed the buyout was no TV, and it lead to WWE buying the company out and thus putting it out of business (there were plans to have WCW continue as a separate brand of WWE but Viacom executives running TNN (now Paramount Network) didn't like that and thus was canceled and in it's place was a failed "Invasion angle" on WWE TV in 2001 and a actual brand extension that was originally planned for WCW end up happening but instead of "WWE" and "WCW" as brands, it became "Raw" and "SmackDown" as brands. the AOLTimeWarner merger was the bust of the late 90s/early 2000s wrestling bubble, as wrestling never recovered from it's late 90s/early 2000s highs.

so for AEW, they better hope they have the same people overseeing TNT now to stay post-merger to keep them on TNT, if not, they need to look at the possibility of moving to another network.
Well AEW is not only debuting a second show soon with Rampage but in a few months both shows will move over to TBS.

Is AEW going to go head to head with Raw or Smackdown?
i doubt it, because the Wednesday Night Wars ends up one side during it's duration when AEW killed WWE NXT in the ratings. also same thing happened during the short lived second Monday Night War between WWE and then-TNA (now Impact Wrestling) where WWE still killed them because this was around the time TNA peaked as a promotion and went on a downward trend shortly after Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff joined the promotion in late 2009, many fans of the promotion at the time knew the promotion's days of them catering to them was over cause they knew Hogan and Bischoff helped lead WCW to it's downfall and saw the same thing would happen to TNA. Anthem who owns Impact now is doing their best to bring the promotion back from the brink of death as the promotion came close to being gone for good in 2016-2017 when Anthem bought out the promotion and start it's slow rebuild and rebirth. now the promotion is getting better with a working relationship with AEW where their top champion is also Impact's top champion, as well as a working relationship with New Japan bringing their stars to Impact, restoring the relationship, previously soured by Impact's former owner and booker Vince Russo.

are they selling ads during AEW? they have trouble selling ads during WCW but that wasn't important to wrestling fan Ted Turner like it was to the snobbish Jamie Kellner

Friday nights at 10pm is a cancellation or time change for AEW Rampage waiting to happen when they can't get 500,000 viewers weekly due to many factors like by 10pm most fans either go out or fall asleep after WWE Friday Night SmackDown on Fox and AEW didn't do great numbers on their brief time on Fridays during the NBA Playoffs.

your right, i wouldn't be surprise if Rampage moves to Saturday nights at 6 PM ET (or if they manage to talk to Turner executives about bringing back Turner time, 6:05 PM ET).

Or moved off to Syndication that Turner (or Warner Media) would get TV stations to carry on the weekends ala ROH on Sinclair (and non-Sinclair) TV stations.
