What's up with Bill Handel?

Handel out again. This time all lips are sealed. Not a good sign. Maybe he is talking some time off to give his brother marginal legal advice..
I feel like Handel's been on his last legs for a while now. A lot of mornings you can tell he's phoning it in. I don't know why he doesn't just retire and focus on his surrogacy practice full time.

I think he sold the surrogacy practice. He has a cookware business with his best friend in Las Vegas. Maybe that"s where he will wind up. He has hinted retiring there..no state income tax

Looks like he and his partner sold the surrogacy practice for $5 million. $4 million at closing and $1 million earn out. They are suing for the earn out.

Some info:
Handel doesn’t have a surrogacy practice anymore.
He had to go back to the hospital with some new unspecified affliction.
No on air explanations because nobody knows what the issue is or when he will come back if he ever does.
To be frank, he's had a very rough year.
Can't speak for the man, but if it were me? I'd say "screw it," finish up my current contract and retire. It really comes down to if he is still having fun doing the show or not. Selfishly, I'd love him to do the show another decade. But I don't get a vote.

I feel like he's phoning it in more than half the time. Maybe that's just my interpretation. I know he's been in the radio game a good long while, and I can't imagine he loves getting up at 3 am every day. I'd probably want to retire as well, and that's without all those other issues.

Also, I had no idea his brother was in so much trouble. Those charges are pretty intense. He's facing 120 years in prison? I hope Bill's not involved in that in any way.

His Mom also passed away recently.

The 120 years isn’t real. That may be the statutory maximum but in reality, the sentencing guidelines are much less.

More relevant to Bill is that a condition of his brother’s bond is that he won’t have any direct or indirect contact will Bill. Bill is listed as a potential victim/witness.

Oh gosh, that's actually pretty rough. I mean, even if my brother was a lawless bastard, I'd still want to be able to at least wish him a Happy Thanksgiving or whatever.

If he's listed as a potential victim, I wonder if Bill lost money to his brother on some kind of investment — add to the rapidly growing list he's dealing with. Like I say, I'll be heartbroken when he wraps up his show — and completely understanding why he would.

Bill back 7/22. Told listeners at 7a. that he'd love to keep doing the show another 28 years. "Of course, that may be a couple of decades after I'm dead. Which will make mornings around here much quieter."

There was real sincerity when he mentioned how much he'd missed doing the show the past two months. Sounds like he's still having fun, which is good news for me.

Potential witness and/or victim. He’s not necessarily a victim.

Fair point.

I jumped to that conclusion— grew up in Utah where affinity fraud is rampant. So many people have a brother-in-law or uncle or whomever who talk them into investing in their "sure bet." And people are trusting because it's family.

Handel has a fairly intense schedule. He does a show that's four hours, five days a week, 6 to 10 a.m. Then he does "Handel on The Law" on Saturday mornings from 8 to 11 a.m. That's syndicated across the country.

He's on the air as a solo host 23 hours a week.
