HD Radio updates

Wanted to start a thread for HD Radio updates. KQBT and KMJQ turned off their HD around the first of the month and the RDS for both are different. KKBQ HD3 is still silent with the translator still on the air.

Different how? This morning KQBT said THE BEAT on their RDS.

And Magic had an add for a lawyer.

Checked KQBT and KMJQ a short while ago and can confirm that the HD is missing from both. However keep in mind that both stations transmit from the same tower at the same antenna height. It is possible that maintenance work is being done, and the stations are on backup facilities. Not the first time I've found HD missing on both.

I checked KROI and found that the Praise format is still dual-branding with both 92.1 and 102.1 HD-2, so perhaps an indication that the KMJQ HD will be back at some point.

I say just sell them all and let someone like IHeart to purchase them.
Or just remain locally owned and play by the rules like the big guys do.

They dont. At least not on paper. KMJQ is across the Fort Bend Toll from KBXX on a slightly shorter stick. It could be that UrbanOne is just done with IBOC. Back when I had an HD Radio, I remember UrbanOne neglected their HD feeds to the point where they sounded worse than their analog feed.

On a quick check, I can now hear KSML in Humble, so HD is definitely down.

The FCC database, FCCdata.org, and Radio-Locator all have KQBT and KMJQ co-located.

KBXX and KROI were both still in HD when I checked earlier. Just HD-1s, no additional subchannels, which has been the case recently.

93.7 changed their RDS call sign to KDUN and from what I’ve seen just says beat and not the song. 102.1 doesn’t have a RDS call sign. I think both stations only have the scrolling RDS not the longer text.

My car had shown BEAT HD1, BEAT HD2, etc. Similar to 95.7 as SPOT and 100.3 as BULL.
That's the HD call, nothing to do with RDS.

Oops. Mine displays RDS before the HD clicks in, thought that was BEAT as well.
RDS call signs are determined by the PI code. You can use this calculator to enter a call sign, and it'll spit out the PI code being transmitted. Note that the RDS calls on iHeart stations don't match - this is because the first digit of the PI code is changed to a 1 (for example, KJR-FM displays KDOC/195A instead of KJR/995A. https://radio.feralfox.net/tools/rdsreverse.php

Thanks, I didn’t know that about iHeart stations. That makes sense why most of them are random. KQBT is 3A6D but if you change the first one to a 1 it’s KDYR which is what it used to be.

KSML is FM 101.9 in Huntington-Lufkin and can't be heard here unless extreme tropo is active.
In Willis I’ve been getting a weak KBXT and K272FY outside of their coverage areas now. And weak Austin tropos brings in KPEZ.
