TV Show Cancellation Thread (including ending ones)

I suppose Ellen has some huge 12 Days-type giveaways for her last week of broadcasts. "You get a car, everybody gets a car"...anybody? Or $1,000 gas cards? ;-)

People TV was a Meredith thing why only TV stations they own carried it Sony couldn't sell it outside TV station groups. People TV wasn't going to be cleared other than where it was Gray would've canceled it if IAC didn't just my opinion.

ABC is no longer playing games with “Match Game,” “Card Sharks,” “Celebrity Dating Game,” and “The Hustler”
I'm calling April Fool's on this article. Now, I certainly believe that Alec Baldwin was going to be taken off the air ("canceled", is apparently the term?) after the shooting incident, and running a foul mouth on Match Game (surely one of the celebrities on the panel complained by now), but the rest of this is fishy. We have been punked by ABC, in my opinion.

The shows are cancelled.
That's too bad. It's still weird that ABC looked into their ratings and budget, and decided that 4 of their gameshows was the problem. 🤦‍♂️ Yes those shows had low ratings, but I think they're low hanging fruit.
Match Game hasn’t taped in years—it burned off episodes now and then as filler but was effectively done long before the unfortunate movie set incident.
Thanks for the insight. It's interesting that they stopped filming in 2020 right around the first wave of the pandemic.

Even low-hanging fruit gets plucked. 😀

I don’t think one can say they thought four game shows were the problem per se, as the game shows have generally been filler material. They went from one night of retro games in summers to a multi night slate. No shock some of those would go as they’ve added others (including at least one new one in the pipeline). Card Sharks just wasn’t primetime material, Match Game had run its course, Dating Game was a pointless endeavor from the start, and The Hustler was more a weird cult-favorite. Given all they still have, it’s not like they’re abandoning the genre, just rebalancing their mix.

I'm sorry about "Match Game" but without Alec Baldwin it might not have been as good.

Joel McHale was really the only reason to watch "Card Sharks". I never understood why I liked it.

Exactly. We have, as a society, become obsessed with celebrities, and I think Baldwin and McHale have that much needed personality boost that we haven't seen since the original hosts. So it's a double punch. But, people get bored easily with concepts, and when something happens with the host or show, people can turn off in droves.
