107.9 Sacramento

I just tuned in and damn I love this format. Definitely planning to listen today.
The playlist is surprisingly deep too. I heard "Stay in Love" by Mon A Q -- I'd be willing to bet there wasn't a single IHeart/Clear Channel station that played that song when it was a Current. Now I'm hearing "I'll Fly with You" by Gigi D'Agostino, another rare 90's dance song which was **maybe** played at KTU. They've also been playing freestyle music like "Take me in your arms" by Lil Suzy. So it's not just the "La Bouche" or "Real McCoy" you'd expect to hear.

The point is, this is a much deeper playlist than I expected for "90's Dance Hits". I wonder if they have someone manually programming each day of the stunt? Or are they just loading up "top 100" charts in each genre and putting it in random? If it's the former, that person is definitely earning his/her pay this month!

Edit: Seems that IHeart has the "recently played" page hidden, but for anyone else interested in taking a deep dive into their playlist today, here's the link: Find the most recently played songs on The New 107.9

Am really enjoying this! If nothing else, this would make for a great specialty show that could air on a 90's -00's formatted station. On Saturday nights for example.

When 107.9 was dark

I used to put Music on my Wireless FM Transmitter from my PC in Citrus Heights

It only went up 100 ft & I couldn't hear it, went to Walmart & back, It was fun while it lasted

Now in Carmicheal, Just FM overload on 107.9

Some interesting selections today. I heard “Professional Widow” by Tori Amos, which I would have never considered for a dance playlist.

I wonder if this is going to launch tomorrow?

It was the Armand Van Helden remix, which was fairly popular in the club circuit.

Inject this 90's / early 00's dance format straight into my veins! They did a fantastic job with the playlist today.

This would be a great format to go with. Hasn't really been anything like it since Power 105.5 went under in 2001, some of this stuff KWOD used to play also before grunge took over completely and then killed it. An ideal format would be something like "evolution of dance", focusing on everything from 70s disco up to current stuff.

Whatever they end up going with, just hope it's something DIFFERENT that we can't already hear on other stations.

They also played “Pump Up the Jam” by Technotronic which came out in ‘89. While not 90s technically, the fit with the 90s “Dance Anthems”
Probably, like other older, music based formats (I e. Classic Hits), you have your core decade, and also include selections from the previous and latter decade to expand your listening audience. I think it works, with what was played yesterday.

BTW, Friday's format is "Throwback Jams". Speaking of Friday, could the permanent format launch later today? Now I'm hoping the "Format of the Day" lasts longer, it's been fun to listen to this last week.

I do too. I'd love to hear a day of 80s hits.

I tend to agree that the new format will either debut today (Friday 5/27/2022) at 5 PM PT (or thereabouts)
or they'll hold off until the holiday weekend is over.
