PLATINOMAX brining Piolin back.

If they do, it's only the real crossover stuff like Marc Anthony and Romeo Santos. They're definitely not playing el Gran Combo.
The key, as you said, is crossover. There are bachata crossover, but there are only a handful of artists who have generated them. Otherwise, it is the music of rural Dominican Republic.

Did a little more listening and research too. La Mejor is a station from Mexico from MVS RADIO. Let’s see what they do here in Houston. Apparently it’s a kinda big company. Probably will be temporary till they find another carrier.

The actual owners must not know how this translator works. They announced KJOZ as a 10,000 watt of maximum power on 102.5 FM

But in the US, a station named "La Mejor" is not necessarily being run by the MVS group. I have not checked trade/service marks but unless MVS has registered the brand in the US and is using it to establish ownership, it is totally possible that this is just a "same name, different owner" situation.

They’re using the same logo and are showing the Mexican website address, and at the TOP OF THE HOUR ID they mention MVS having I think more than 50 stations in 4 countries.

All you needed was a quick Google search to know who MVS is. Along with Grupo Radio Mexico and ACIR, they're one of the most recognizable media companies in Mexico. Their brands are internationally recognized as they have affiliates across Central America and even the US. IIRC, there is a La Mejor affiliate in Phoenix and one in Waco (or at least there was one). Exa FM also had an affiliate in Las Vegas (which was no longer the case last time I visited).

Let's take a moment to remember that the owner of this translator also owns "La Caliente". And their existing logo looks a lot like Multimedios Radio's former "La Caliente" logo. The resemblance is uncanny.

That is interesting. MVS does have stations in Central America but I wonder why they would be involved with an under-capitalized group of low power stations in the US. Maybe they have no financial interest but are in an affiliation deal.

The stations they were involved with in Central America (and, even at one time, in Quito, Ecuador) did not do very well and a number are now gone.

Their website now shows "Humble, tx" as one of their affiliate locations.

This is definitely an odd move. Maybe MVS is very desperate to expand their brand into the US?

Certainly wouldn't surprise me if Centro was trying to run K273AL at 10kW... 😂

Funny but in 2014 I thought a 1500 watt translator was bad when I heard about it.

It's the norm in Houston.

Austin seems to have a lot of straight shooters, which is surprising considering the large number of translators they have in the market.

Many translators have disappeared or either turned off. What happened to 97.3? What happened to 107.1/107.3? 88.5 cielo fm?
95.3? Was that the one where they turned in the license?

Took a quick listen to 102.5 around The Woodlands. It seems that the "La Mejor" format is on two different stations. One of them has a slight delay, which is noticeable when driving around the area.

My guess is this is KJFI-LP and K273AL with the same content.

Just wait until KJHJ goes back on the air and that will takeover what you’re hearing in The Woodlands. It’s kind of weird how they’re pretty strong in the woodlands but weaker to their north in Willis.

Still most likely will be the same La Mejor

Maybe it’s a system error but one of the 102.5 FMs was simulcasting LA CALIENTE from 104.5 and the other 102.5 was LA MEJOR .

Just wanted to add, KJFI-LP is still running LA CALIENTE, which it’s still on 104.5 FM too. K273AL is still carrying LA MEJOR.

I got KJFI the night of the 21st and it was dead air with RDS saying la numero uno
