“Days of our Lives” to move the hourglass to Peacock

I'm sure Roly is referring to NBC's new news program. I expect to see all of NBC's Florida affiliates
carrying it.

I don't think so. I see WBBH adding yet another hour of news. WTVJ will be forced to carry it since they're an O&O.

If the Talk's ratings are bad, what would CBS replace it with? Most likely another talk or news show, so is that any improvement? My guess would be a midday news show to compete with GMA 3 and NBC News Daily, but that would most likely mean either moving B&B or canceling it as well.
Well, chances are if The Talk gets axed (which is highly unlikely), CBS will give the hour back to affiliates. Wouldn’t be surprised if WREG in Memphis added another newscast and move Jeopardy to 2pm if that were to happen.

What about General Hospital? Since ABC already has a midday news show called GMA3, if the show ever gets cancelled or moves to a streaming platform like Disney+(since Disney itself owns ABC), perhaps they should fill the second hour with either game shows or be given back to local affiliates for syndicated programming. Or worse yet, it could fill that hour with more news.

I also wouldn't be surprised if two remaining CBS soap operas like Young and The Restless and Bold and The Beautiful gets moved to Paramount+ in the not so distant future. Soap opera on traditional TV is becoming obsolete.....

My local NBC affiliate already airs News from 12:35am to 1pm. From 1-4 it's Days of our Lives, Rachel Ray and Jeopardy.
4-6:30pm more News then Wheel of fortune and NBC primetime. Then News at 10pm then NBC latenight from 10:35-12:35am and back to News.

Only 3 syndicated shows plus NBC programs the rest is News.
WAVE, the NBC affiliate in Louisville, has nothing but news and public affairs except from 1-2 PM, which will now be given over to a news program, primetime, and the Fallon/Meyers block in latenight. WAVE is a Gray-owned station, and that company would like to see all its stations drop syndicated programs and follow the lead of WAVE and sister CBS affiliate WBTV Charlotte, whose only entertainment shows are CBS daytime, primetime, and the Colbert/Corden latenight block.

WFAA, ABC in Dallas (Tegna, eventually moving to Cox) has only one entertainment show before 7 PM (CT), and that is "General Hospital." Otherwise the only entertainment shows are what air in primetime and "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Shades of things to come?

Do you think NBC will even allow WBBH to pre-empt the new newscast?

I have a feeling that this could be one of those programs that will allow NBC affiliates to air more local news if they so wish to choose.

Soap opera on traditional TV is becoming obsolete.....
A daily serial program on traditional TV became obsolete a solid 40 years ago.

The audience for the soaps were originally housewives, and by the late 70s or early 80s, housewives were a dying breed. It was 1982 when workforce participation among women age 25 to 54 first reached 67%. Women's workforce participation has since risen into the mid 70% range.

Soaps have been surviving off of older viewers (mostly women) and a certain amount of DVR viewing for a long time now, even as their ranks have thinned.

CBS had shown soccer matches in recent months in the afternoon with The Talk and LMAD being casualties at times.
LMAD depended on the time zone and when it was scheduled to air. It still aired here in Charlotte because WBTV airs it at 10am and soccer coverage didn’t start until 2. But it was preempted in the markets who still air it at 3 Eastern, 2 Central. However, when March Madness rolls around, LMAD is preempted everywhere. All stations are on their own at 10. Go figure. As that other poster pointed out, the soaps were also bumped to late night in most western markets due to soccer.

And prime time reboots of soaps haven't fared too well...Dallas on TNT, and Dynasty on the CW. Both came nowhere near their original in every respect. Although Larry Hangman was great as J.R., unfortunately, he passed away while filming the second season of the Dallas reboot. It was obvious afterwards, that he was carrying the show, and the only thing that was worth watching.
"Dynasty" lasted five seasons. I'd say that was a pretty good run. It was a fun show with a lot of good characters.

That was me. I honestly doubt they would do that as long as Y&R is still on the air but I would love to see it happen. Admittedly it makes no sense to cut the Talk to 30 minutes and expand B&B to an hour because The Talk is much cheaper to produce. Now I could see the affiliates get 12:30-1 if Y&R and B&B get the Days treatment in a couple years and CBS could air a “CBS Daytime News” type program to compete with “NBC News Daily” and GMA3.
If I am remembering correctly, WRAL Raleigh NC put Y&R at 4 in the afternoon and had an hour of news at noon. Don't remember what they did at 1:00 but before Y&R became popular that was Betty Feezor's slot of WBTV. She was a host of a program for women who did things like cooking.

I’m far from the first person to say this, but if you need any proof that this world is full of stupid people, try answering the phones at a TV station.😖

You would he amazed at how many of those callers believe that soap opera characters are real people leading real lives.🤯
My grandmother, when there were prayer requests, once asked for prayer for a soap character. Or so I've been told.

And here in Phoenix, Y&R and B&B got shunted to the middle of the night. My mother was NOT happy.
It seemed to always be that of a soap or prime-time show was pre-empted in the East, it was pre-empted in the west. Did Phoenix get a new episode those days?

I'd guess in the Eastern and Central time zones the soccer matches on CBS may have rolled over into local time after LMAD as well.

Yes, they were new episodes but got bumped to overnight because soccer aired live during their usual slots (11am Y&R, 12:30pm B&B in Phoenix). I assume it was the same in all or most western markets, while the East got these new episodes at their normal times.

I was surprised by the move I didn't see that happening Days moving. I was surprised that CBS aired Soccer during the spring time which should've aired on CBS Sports Network or Paramunt+.

WRAL did do that, starting in 1993 because Golden Girls reruns were no match for Oprah on WTVD. At first they ran B&B a day behind at 1 and aired syndicated programming at 1:30, but then switched B&B back to 1:30 and aired syndicated programming at 1. WNCN continued this tradition when they picked up CBS in 2016, until this January.

As for WBTV I noticed on the listings on here they didn’t pick up Y&R until right before it went to an hour, on an hour delay at 1pm, around 1980. I think WCCB picked it up some, but not often. They did air it in pattern at 1pm when it first went to an hour. Briefly they were airing it a day behind at 10am but finally moved it to in pattern at 12:30, moved Top O’The Day from noon to 11:30am and moved The Price Is Right to 10:30 a day behind.

WLKY Louisville is the last CBS affiliate I know of to air Y&R at 4, and they do it for the same reason WRAL did.
They do an hour newscast at noon, followed by 25 Words or Less at 1, then rejoin CBS for B&B at 1:30. With Y&R as a lead-in, the station's 5 PM news usually runs first in the timeslot. However, I wonder if, since Days will no longer be on at 1, WLKY will cut its noon news to 30 minutes, move Y&R to 12:30, and start a 4 PM newscast.

That same market may be a preview of coming attractions: NBC affiliate WAVE, once Days is off its schedule, will offer precisely zero entertainment shows before 8 PM. It will have just five hours a day of non-news/public affairs: the three hours of primetime and the Fallon/Meyers block.
