New Sports Station Coming To DFW

I worded it incorrectly, but you know what I mean. Just because the Hispanic population is growing does not mean that there are less white people in the market.
Actually, there are a lot more "white people" because over 90% of those who said "yes" to the "are you Hispanic / Latino / Mexican / Puerto Rican / Cuban / etc." Census question also indicated "white" as their race.

Race and being Hispanic are separate questions and categories.

The correct Census Bureau term you are trying to find is "Non-Hispanic White". The term "white" includes most Hispanics and is incorrect in the use you are making of it.
Which is something you harp on incessantly, and talk about radio stations and shows as if you were in the market.
I was "in the market" from around 1996 to just last year, first as VP and then as consultant to a major group. As a matter of fact, for a couple of weeks I was interim GM for that group's Dallas stations.

I'd do the same thing, but on half the news/talk stations here in Kansas City, including one of the Bott Radio stations and 2 talk FMs from Audacy, the stereo pilot's on.
Odd they wouldn’t put KMBZ-FM in mono. WYRD-FM in Greenville-Spartanburg which is another Audacy talk station has been in mono since 2008. Amazing improvement.

Do you have access to the Miller Kaplan numbers?

I’m wandering if KXT will play what the Eagle was playing? They already been playing The Black Crowes, Alice In Chains, Pink Floyd etc.

I had to look it up and sure enough they played at least one Alice in Chains song. Funny enough it was oddly played between Santigold and Lizzo. Maybe next, a Metallica or Ozzy song would be thrown in there once in a while, and probably "In the End" by Linkin Park, but nothing like Korn or Blink 182. I can't imagine KXT going down that route.

Why?

Those of us with access are bound by agreement not to divulge the monthly numbers and to only use them for internal analysis and strategy.

The Miller-Kaplan numbers are part of the formula that independent analysts use to evaluate stations. Often the Miller-Kaplan numbers are mysterious as to how clusters allocate multi-station revenues and others try to allocated more rationally based on cluster station ratings, demographics and advertiser format appeal.

KEGL is now playing Tom Petty's "The Waiting" in a loop. We can all agree with Tom that "The waiting is the hardest part."

This is just a nod to Mike Whiner cuz he's in a Petty tribute band. (Which btw the name of the band is stolen from a band LIKE it in San Francisco.)

I could see the “The Freak” still playing some music in the off hours. The voiceovers for the hourly ID sound kind of like a rock/alternative station. It might be the same person who KMMY Soper, OK/Paris, TX uses.

I expect something like Real Radio 104.1 in Orlando. If they still play some music, it would be interesting to see what it’ll be. Could it be rock, alternative, classic alternative, or maybe an extreme version of adult hits? That last one I listed could be fun.

They played Alice In Chains-Would? two or three weeks ago. A little before the initial announcement that the Eagle was flipping formats. KXT does play everything but it’s too mellow a station for too much hard rock or rap. That said, it is funny to think about one of the KXT hosts chiming in with their soft voices after announcing they just played Slayer’s Reign in Blood. I have heard Slayer’s Reign in Blood on the station along with Black Sabbath’s Planet Caravan. However, that was on the Paul Slavens show where he plays pretty much everything.

A very popular sticker had “92 1/2 K-FM” for the Progressive format.

That was half a century ago.😳
That is the one I was looking for. Jon Dillon gave a very nervous R/TV student a tour of the station and gave me a ton of info and a t-shirt for a college paper I was writing. Between the time I talked to him and turned the paper in, they switched to KZPS and the current oldies format. o_O I got an A on the paper because the professor basically said to the class, that's the way radio be. :)

Yes, I'm old.

KAFM sure went through a bunch of formats during its ~13 year existence. I really enjoyed the initial Progressive format in 1973, but the launch of KZEW killed that off. A try at Top 40 (92K) in 1974 only lasted ten months. The Progressive Country format (1975-76) was quite unique with many artists not heard elsewhere. They were a rather pleasant “Mellow Rock” format after that—“Gently rocking with the stars” is a liner I remember.

We now return to the talk about the current doings at 97.1, unless anyone has memories of KWXI or Z-97.🤣

Slayer on KXT?!??!!!

Wow. I'm impressed. I never understood why FM rock radio has avoided their music outside of heavy metal specialty shows. Many of those same stations play Pantera on a semi-regular basis.

Could be, John Frost has a contract with iHeart Dallas. Plus he's distributed via premiere. He's also the voice guy for Rewind 103.9 in Bonham. (KFYN)

Doesn't necessarily mean his presence means it'll be rock either, he does liners for all kinds of formats.

Said in another thread. My prediction: Mike, B&S and Mark Cuban come on a 3 to announce push for Freaker’s Ball. The station still is called the Eagle. But, Mike replaces treehouse. I think we’re all being lied to lol
