Alt 92.3 to Become WINS Simulcast

Meanwhile out in Los Angeles, KYSR is promoting an alternative festival hosted by The Woody Show.

I post this here so everyone can pick apart the artists as either too pop or too old:

...and radio will become a wasteland of News, Talk and infomercials. Bruce Springsteen wrote about TV being "57 channels and nothing on". He could well apply it to radio.
Actual news -- not propaganda labeled as such by the right or the left -- is needed on radio today and going forward much more than another station spinning 30-year-old Green Day songs.

Though the amount of music stations in this area has been dwindling, there are still 2 Spanish pop and two hip-hop FM's with very similar programming. The two hip-hop stations appear to have similar overall ratings.
But WXNY-La X 96.3 has always been way behind WSKQ-Mega 97.9. X's owner, Univision within the past year sold off its 2 sister stations in New York. I wonder whether WXNY may be next. Perhaps another owner would program a different Spanish format that could do better,

Anyone else think this 1010 WINS simulcast will eventually fail? I'll give it about a year, we'll have alt rock once again!!!!! And if it happens, they should rebrand it as the new K-Rock!!!!!!!

Gold based formats can hang on playing mass Appeal hits and complimenting it with talents that know first and foremost it's about the music, don't stop it, then entertain over the intros with current relevant and or interesting commentary that's closed with a personal observation and or joke that elicits a smile. Jump on relevant local stuff going on, and quick prizes to local P1s to work and maintain loyalty with them. Keep stopsets 4min 2x an hour. We still are easiest and if there a couple a little different options all done well, easy and more entertaining along with feeling like part of a community that's uniquely local.
Might as well go down with a fight and our best punches are the ones we hit best and or opponents cannot pull off.

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS-should be collecting Social Security & probably wearing support hose on their junk. JACK WHITE-must be taking time out from producing/engineering other artists records, MUSE-Still trying to crack the Top 40 on Billboard charts, FALL OUT BOY-Maybe Pete Wentz needs to flash his junk again on the internet so people will say "They're still around?", PHOENIX-Didn't know Joaquin was taking time out from being The Joker to sing., CHVRCHES, BEACH WEATHER and ROSA LINN-Who, who and who?

Hope I didn't disappoint.

In addition to the date of the 92.3 simulcast starting (already mentioned being Thu. 10/27/2022) , we now have the exact time.

WFAN has been running promos voiced by their hosts stating that the simulcast will begin at 9 AM (ET).
The messages mention (paraphrasing):
"If you've had trouble picking up 1010 WINS through the static, now you'll be able to hear it in crystal clear FM sound."
----------------------------------
By the way, 10/27 is the first day of the third week of the November 2022 4-week PPM ratings period.
I'd say there's likely no connection between the start date and ratings considerations.

Maybe the effective date of the new SAG-AFTRA union agreement plays in to this?
or other arrangents had to be made prior to the flip.

They don't like the Woody show. What they want is hostless music without commercials. In my world, we call that Spotify.

Personally, I enjoy the Woody show in live form.

What I don't like is the butchered version that commonly airs in eastern time zone markets between 6a and 8a.

I feel bad for DC101 his flagship station.

You shouldn't. He generates big ratings and $$$ for them.

I am assuming that by what I’ve read about the new union agreement, there may be future job losses down the track as they consolidate newsrooms. Am I correct?

If it's a union agreement, it likely protects all current union employees, but affects future hiring. So instead of replacing retiring newscasters or reporters, the company can fill the slot with someone from the other station. A number of people have retired in the past year.

There is no way of knowing, but the extent to which WCBS is hurt could be somewhat determined by the amount of people who listen to it because 1010 WINS has (had) an inferior signal.

Nothing to pick apart from where I sit; that is a strong lineup.

Now the $64k question - how much are tix? 😉

I wouldn’t be surprised to see WINS have an immediate ratings impact not dissimilar to WTOP in 2006 after they moved to 103.5. And yes, WCBS will be hurt considerably.
We didn’t see a bump at all for KNX when they added the 97.1 simulcast in LA. I don’t think WINS is going to gain any sizable amount of listeners from being on 92.3. But I do agree with you about WCBS. I wouldn’t be surprised if most cuts aren’t actual cuts and are more through retirements, resignations, etc and those positions not being filled.
