This is the station that supposed to have replaced KRTH as L.A.s oldies station? doesn't even come close, maybe if they played some of the great jingles like K-EARTH had, and had someone like Shotgun Tom Kelly, they might be listenable, they even have better sound quality for anyone with an HD radio at 105.1 HD2, for now it's just a nice Beverly Hills station (yes they're licensed to B.H.) playing main stream oldies.

It's was and has been KSUR for years now 1260 branded as L.A. Oldies, classic music on AM? must have sounded awful.
 
I stand semi-corrected, I don't know what they're doing up in Monterey, but K-SUR L.A. Oldies is alive and well on 105.1 HD4 (I didn't know they abandoned the 1260 frequency)
 
Why bother with KSUR when there are so many better oldies stations online? Personally, I used to enjoy KRTH HD2. They used the old Johnny Mann jingles and played classic LA oldies like "Goodnight My Love" and "Earth Angel."

AM 1260 is KMZT Classical which is also simulcast on FM 105.1 HD-2. "K-Surf" LA Oldies is on 105.1 HD-4. KMZT AM 1260 broadcasts in HD Digital Stereo (analog, of course is in Mono), obviously you would need an HD Radio for digital. However, the only reason the analog AM 1260 might "sound awful" through your ordinary radio is because the AM section of your radio sounds awful. KMZT broadcasts full bandwidth sound and can be heard in Hi-FI with a wide band receiver. Yes, I realize these are hard to find. I have three such receivers and KMZT sounds great!

Saul, trained as an attorney, obtained an FM in LA over 63 years ago and was among the early stations moving to Mt Wilson. He has specialized in "unique" formats, with many years in jazz and then classical before finally taking the discarded country position in LA.

He long ago paid off any financing he might have had for the stations and he operates frugally. Some of his other stations, such as Monterrey and the AM have been sustained out of what can only be called "love of radio". His family assists in running the stations. I loved KRTH HD2 (especially the "Earth Oldie" jingle, and they were almost commercial free) then they decided to become a "Disney" station, then I believe they simulcasted KNX all news radio, too bad they were a million times better than KSURF. I found one pretty good oldies station on the net, they go by "Pittsburgh Oldies Channel" or WIQK (so they say on their hourly I.D.) not an over the air station (same as their sister station "The Tiki Lounge" which goes by WZZJ (they play 40s through 70s)

1260 is classical. 105.1 HD4 is K-SURF

Yeah, a mistake converting that station to classical music. AM 1260 til 2020, was essentially the K-Earth 101 of decades past (pre 1991), meaning a nice and thorough selection of oldies and classic hits. And they were converting to more late 60's, 70's and a few 1980 tunes before that sudden change to classical. Oh well, nothing lasts forever, as they say. It was a great alternative while it lasted.

You can still hear it on FM at 105.1 HD-4, or through the K-Surf App. Their oldies playlist is very good.
