What's with the NFL playing on Christmas Eve/Day?

The National Basketball Association hasn't, as far as I know, ever played games on Christmas Eve, but has played games on Christmas Day for most of the league's history. And there has been at least one nationally televised NBA game on Christmas Day every year since 1969 (as fast as I've been able to determine; perhaps there had been nationally televised Christmas Day NBA games prior to 1969).

After doing further research, I discovered that the first nationally televised NBA Christmas Day game was in 1967, when ABC carried a game between the then-San Diego Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers played in San Diego (the team nickname stemmed from.the fact that the Atlas rocket, a mainstay of both America's national defense and the space program in the 1960's, was built in San Diego. The nickname was kept after the team moved to Houston, since Houston is the administrative headquarters of NASA's manned space program).

What BAFFLED me wasn't the fact the NFL was playing on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. But rather the game the NFL had CBS simulcast on Nickelodeon

DENVER VS. L.A. RAMS

That meant YET ANOTHER National TV embarrassment (And BOY WAS IT EVER)

I wonder if they hyyad any slime LEFT after the game (Or was the slime mixer working IN OVERDRIVE  )

SERIOUSLY - Of ALL; the games they could've put in that copveted slot, WHY the DEN/LAR game?? They should've either just flexed it off Nickelodeon (But played at the same) in lieu of another game or (Ideally) flexed it to Sunday instead

I GUARANTEE YOU - If this were A PRIMETIME slot we were talkling about here -The DEN/LAR game would've been flexed out WEEKS ago

Thoughts??

This year, there are five NBA Christmas Day games, scheduled back-to-back, and simulcast on both ABC and ESPN. This will mean approximately 13 straight hours of live NBA games, from 12 Noon to 1 A.M. EST.
Christmas is to the NBA what Thanksgiving is to the NFL & Memorial Day & July 4th are to MLB

In other words - Christmas Eve & Christmas Day are traditionally HUGE days for the NBA

The Christmas Day games were not allowed to be flexed out
Dpn't give me that BS !! The NFL can flex ANYTHING IT WANTS TO out for ANY reason

And there ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to believe that DEN/LAR deserved to have the eyeballs of BOTH CBS & Nickelodeon. EVERYONE & THEIR GREAT GRANDMOTHER knew that WAS NOT going to be a good game

Denver vs Los Angeles should be considered "child abuse" 🤣 Watch the final score be all field goals!

*Also, it's the Rams, not the Chargers.
To say NOITHING of the FINAL SCORE

DEN 14 LAR 51

48 HOURS LATER - Nathanial Hackett gets fired

Do you understand contracts are a thing?
Do you understand RATINGS are ALSO a thing too??

Ohh yeah BTW - Wasn't the WAS/SF game CROSS FLEXED to CBS from Fox & on AT THE SAME TIME??

THAT would've been A BETTER choice for the Nickelodeon broadcast. DEN/LAR should've been a CBS ONLY game tel;evised ONLY in Denver & LA

So the answer is no? Gotcha. There are rules that govern all parties in a contract, particular when there are complex contracts with multiple partners. Not sure what the odd fixation on the Nick component is, but whatever…..

Nope
The games were decided on at the beginning of the season and due to Christmas they were not allowed to be flexed out. That came directly from the NFL.

At the beginning of the year it looked good on paper
Russell Wilson vs the Defending champs

Who can change its mind as to which game is shown on Nickelodeon on two weeks notice if it had TRIED. Why?? Simple. It's THEIR product. They want to put their best foot forward (Even during the day on Christmas). The adults probably would've went to watch the NBA but not the kids. whenever the NFL is on Nickelodeon, that's SLIMETIME for them

But by game time, it was THE WORST matchup of the whole weekend

As I said before, DEN/LAR should've gotten only Regional coverage between Denver & LA on CBS (Not the whole country on Nickelodeon as well)

You don't seem to comprehend that the Christmas day games were not "Regional Coverage". They were scheduled for the whole country. These games were not eligible to be flexed out. It's the same as the Thanksgiving games.

The Nickelodeon broadcast is aimed at kids sort of like a cartoon. It's the NFL's attempt at getting kids interested in football...

Except football is not usually a feature of Christmas. When the holiday falls on a weekday, the only football played is usually a very minor college "participation bowl" game, in Hawaii, between teams with 6-6 records. Christmas Eve is usually devoid of all sports. This year's Christmas weekend has a Black Friday/Thanksgiving feel to it because the NFL and its network partners and advertisers will never sacrifice a Saturday AND a Sunday to any holiday.

The whole NBA/Christmas Day synergy continues to puzzle me. I wonder why players haven't been more outspoken on this intrusion into family time and religion? (Yes, I know some are non-Christian, and spare me the woke/hate America narrative. It's just always seemed strange that the second holiest day on the Christian calendar is besotted with football. Of course, the holiest, Easter (and Good Friday), are just another day on the the MLB/NHL/NBA schedule, so ....)
I remember Late 1980s/Early 1990s some of the (NBA) Detroit Pistons players complained about 'working' on Christmas, saying they couldn't see their children opening their gifts. I believe a couple of players chartered an airplane so they could be at home Christmas morning then fly out to (away) game.
