The nickname was kept after the team moved to Houston, since Houston is the administrative headquarters of NASA's manned space program).

What's with the NFL playing on Christmas Eve/Day?

What BAFFLED me wasn't the fact the NFL was playing on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. But rather the game the NFL had CBS simulcast on Nickelodeon

SERIOUSLY - Of ALL; the games they could've put in that copveted slot, WHY the DEN/LAR game?? They should've either just flexed it off Nickelodeon (But played at the same) in lieu of another game or (Ideally) flexed it to Sunday instead
I GUARANTEE YOU - If this were A PRIMETIME slot we were talkling about here -The DEN/LAR game would've been flexed out WEEKS ago

In other words - Christmas Eve & Christmas Day are traditionally HUGE days for the NBA

Only Christmas Day. The NBA takes Christmas Eve off, even when Dec. 24 falls on a Saturday or Sunday.

THAT would've been A BETTER choice for the Nickelodeon broadcast. DEN/LAR should've been a CBS ONLY game tel;evised ONLY in Denver & LA
So the answer is no? Gotcha. There are rules that govern all parties in a contract, particular when there are complex contracts with multiple partners. Not sure what the odd fixation on the Nick component is, but whatever…..

The games were decided on at the beginning of the season and due to Christmas they were not allowed to be flexed out. That came directly from the NFL.

As I said before, DEN/LAR should've gotten only Regional coverage between Denver & LA on CBS (Not the whole country on Nickelodeon as well)
You don't seem to comprehend that the Christmas day games were not "Regional Coverage". They were scheduled for the whole country. These games were not eligible to be flexed out. It's the same as the Thanksgiving games.
The Nickelodeon broadcast is aimed at kids sort of like a cartoon. It's the NFL's attempt at getting kids interested in football...
As has been said, not an option.
I actually liked the Nick broadcast. But yeah it was aimed at trying to get kids to watch.
I remember Late 1980s/Early 1990s some of the (NBA) Detroit Pistons players complained about 'working' on Christmas, saying they couldn't see their children opening their gifts. I believe a couple of players chartered an airplane so they could be at home Christmas morning then fly out to (away) game.
