Me-TV FM

We may very well see KRLD come to the FM dial. They will have to do something more than AM and HD2 if they are going to keep the brand relevant.
I still doubt Audacy will launch an FM simulcast of KRLD, as the station does not have the same cachet as siblings KNX, KCBS, WBBM, WCBS, or WINS do in their respective markets.
I don’t see KLUV flipping, maybe just a rebrand. If they are doing some kind of merger, perhaps 100.3 ends up flipping.
This is part of the rumors, which include additional pieces.
A flip to soft AC may work as long as it doesn’t skew too old.
Don’t think so, given the demographic trends in the market. Platinum 96.7 fizzled.

On the other hand, Palm Springs is not in a market with a lot of agency business. The average age here is in the lower 40's, but if you include the "snowbirds" who are here 9 months of the year, it is over 50!

So retail and service advertisers depend on seniors for most of their business.

And this is the only market I know of where the local TV news can have two ads in the same break for plastic surgery or Botox treatments or the like! And every break has an A/C service company ad in it.

If you consider that half the population is Hispanic and younger than average, the non-Hispanic white population is even older. So those formats aimed at 55+ can do very, very well.
I almost took a tv job there and kicking myself daily for not doing it

The two major TV operators, Press Gazette and Entravision, are good operators and have very solid news operations. Both are known for making staff ready for Phoenix, LA, San Diego and other big markets.

at the time I was like “no I’m in a much better sports market. I like being in Louisiana! I’ll never leave!“ I was young and dumb. The FIRST opening I find there, I’m applying!

What do you think will happen?
As discussed elsewhere on the DFW board, the speculation is that EMF will purchase the K-Love branding from Audacy, and 98.7 will rebrand with new call letters. EMF then purchases another DFW signal and launches its own national network there.

Also speculation about a change to 100.3.

Another couple of pieces might be involved. Stay tuned.

They need to leave JACK alone because if they change, a lot of listeners will be pissed off and I’ll be one of them. Rebrand KLUV but leave JACK the way it is. What about putting KLOVE on the 107.5 frequency?

If EMF launches K-Love in DFW that would make four full time CCM stations in the market in addition to KJRN 88.3 (to be fair it only covers part of the market), KAWA 89.7 and KLTY 94.9. Not to mention, KCBI 90.9 plays CCM most of the time. That must be a big pie everybody wants a slice of!

Perhaps Alfred Liggins is the catalyst, in all of this, to making the deal. 😂

You’re forgetting their Air1 on 101.7 KYDA. Much better signal than KJRN

Christian radio hits about 8% of radio listeners from statistics I have seen. KJRN is owned by a 7th Day Adventist College in Keene. I really doubt they'd sell it. Entry into DFW radio will not be cheap and the share is not very substantial considering the competition. If anything was to happen, Hope, down in Houston, might invest in a DFW signal for their Spanish Christian Music format to accompany KAWA, Way FM.

Agreed on everything except an acquisition to pair with KAWA. I suspect HMG would simply flip KAWA to Vida Unida, much like what happened to their NGEN stations in Houston, if they were looking to expand their Spanish language service to DFW. It is an uphill climb against the well established KLTY for anyone trying to carve out their own piece of the CCM pie in the Metroplex, and having to add a signal just to do so, certainly puts them at a disadvantage from the get go. I know it's EMF, but this whole scenario and associated speculation, to steal a word from a fellow poster, sounds like pure piffle.

Cardinal Rule of radio in the U.S.: You can never, ever, have too many religious stations in a market.

I wish he would deal KROI in Houston, but enough of my drumbeating on that for now.

I have been wondering if Radio One might buy KRNB and KKDA should Service Broadcasting want to cash in, then spin off one of the four DFW stations RO would then own, which would be a target for one of the religious outfits.

I don’t think HMG will flip KAWA; they would have already done so after acquiring the signal. I am sure they will be on the prowl for another station for Vida Unida.

Refer to the Cardinal Rule of U.S. broadcasting I mentioned earlier.

There is a lot of smoke here, and a glow on the horizon. Something is up.

I, too, would be upset if Jack leaves DFW. I say Jack to be more heavy on the rock hits but nothing close that would crossover to ALT. (I agree on the classic rock leaning to challenge KZPS). Rebranding KLUV to something like "Big 98.7" would be a better choice if EMF really wants to put a K-Love here. 107.5 isn't going to be K-Love, but I still wish that Cumulus would have sold 93.3 to become K-Love.

I disagree on there cannot be too many religious stations. I ran a preaching/teaching station that was the 5th one in Houston. I was going after not the A team or B team but C team ministries that couldn't pay much and any B team ministries that wanted a better time to supplement the other station. I was lucky to pull in $6,000-$8,000 a month doing that 20 years back. Breakeven was about $17,500 a month. Needless to say it was down to three in about a year.

The 'magic' of EMF and Hope is they're non-commercial and typically do more to involve listeners to get the monthly $30 donation or more. KLTY works as a conventional format and is commercial meaning not a bunch of sharing listeners. Air One, K-Love and Way FM operate with a need to pass the plate periodically and with the nice incentives (gas for a year; groceries for a year, etc drawings among all contributors), people respond to the many matching donation deals they work out. It's a totally different appeal that every other radio format is missing. Having a tough day, you have somebody at Air One, for example, to call to try to boost your spirits. Much like KLTY, the others let the music 'minister' and most jock patter is not 'religious', so to speak.

Folks, there's no reason for Audacy to change KJKK or KLUV. Both are good earners for Audacy. It doesn't matter if they have a lot similarities in their playlists. Each one has its own brand and listeners may not even realize they are co-owned.

After all, Cumulus owns two country stations in the Dallas-Fort Worth market: KSCS and KPLX. They both have plenty of overlap in their playlists. But each has its own identity and each makes money. Cumulus isn't looking to consolidate them because they sound similar or to change either one.

If Audacy wants to sell the "K-Love" branding to EMF in the Dallas market, it probably wouldn't be difficult. iHeart recently changed the call letters of its successful Classic Hits station in Seattle, 95.7 KJR-FM. It's now KJEB and it's currently #1. (The KJR-FM call sign is now on 93.3 MHz as a Sports station.)
