The new KROI/KTHT changes thread

Have to wonder if Voz Media is having trouble coming up with the money to close their purchase of the SBS TV assets. Could November 15 be a walk away date for SBS buying KROI if they haven’t closed the separate deal with Voz? We might have Praise going on 92.1 for several more months, which would make their listener redirect efforts begin to look pretty silly.

Voz Media is a new company which aims to be a politically conservative alternative to other Spanish language broadcasters. Perhaps David Eduardo has some insight into that effort…?

If the SBS deal fizzles, we might eventually see K-Love on both 92.1 and 97.1. Who else might have been in the mix for purchasing KROI and would want a second chance?
Interesting…I forgot about the Voz deal and hadn’t considered that it might affect the KROI deal. How likely is this really? Seems like a lot of trouble to have to hunt for a buyer again, especially since KROI’s signal isn’t exactly the best (although I agree EMF buying it is a real possibility if this happens).

Seems the deal hinges on Voz Media coming up with $64M for its own deal with SBS. Not a good look for either company. The KROI sale application would appear to formalize a drop dead date.

Depends on who might have also bid for KROI during the original sale process. You would think those parties are still interested.

KROI’s signal noticeably improved with the new tower. A simulcast with 97.1 would give a programmer more coverage than the 106.9/107.5 combo. EMF would likely be thrilled to acquire 92.1, though I could see the sale price dropping to $4-5M.

After all the anticipation, looks like we will have to wait a few more months for any changes to 92.1 and 97.1:

I wouldn't be surprised if the SBS deal had a backup buyer. That's fairly common when stations are sold like these. If that's the case, the backup buyer would buy it should SBS walk away from the deal. It would, of course, pay less than what SBS was going to pay, or it would've gotten the station in the first place.

Definitely not a good look. Depending on which metric you look at, SBS hasn't looked good in a long time, though. Its Altman Z-Score rated it as distressed last time I looked, and it had the lowest I could find of any company in radio. I realize numbers don't always tell the whole story, but I can't imagine most investors don't look at them before making decisions. I'm guessing also, BTW, that the deal to sell Mega TV will also lead to another deal that's been widely speculated. If that deal doesn't happen, it makes me think the other one won't either.

Country legends Well, considering the station is 100% voice tracked and hasn't had a live jock on it for at least a year or more... but how come K love is live but country legends wasn’t?
That’s the way Cox chose to run it, as they have with all the stations, the cheapest, effortless method possible.

Cox did not run its other markets that way. Look at places like Atlanta and Miami and Tampa and you see quite well programmed stations by today's standards.

But SBS obviously had bridge loans to cover the acquisitions. They already closed and are operating Orlando and Tampa, and likely have the funding for Houston.

This morning I heard KTHT all the way in Gulfport, Mississippi! What an amazing signal! It was overriding WEZB on the opposite side of New Orleans
This morning I heard WMAH from that area over here

But why run stations that way in bigger markets (slightly) in Houston? That market should’ve been a cash cow for Cox. I don’t understand

Simple reason: RIMSHOT

Not really as much about it being an amazing signal as it is about the amazing atmospheric conditions that bounced it back down to earth 350 miles away. The tropo has been quite strong this summer.
Same reason I had 99.5 KISS, 106.7 The Eagle, Vibe 107.5 and KJ 97 from SA blasting in like locals here in Tyler these last few days. Even more surprising was Corpus Christi's Big 93.9 coming in quite well, allowing for a new log in the book. San Antonio does make it up here from time to time, but Corpus is quite rare.

in 2017 I was able to get Big 93.9 from Corpus out here in Kingwood while parked on the top floor of a parking garage. Middle of the night I was doing preload at ups and I wasn’t needed so instead of going back home I just found somewhere to park and sleep. I was able to get other stations out of east Texas and Louisiana.

Big 93.9 is fairly common. Even if I don’t really hear any other station from Corpus. It seems to be a pretty open frequency with not a lot of stations on it. I did hear it once just outside of New Orleans

It’s there seemingly all the time in Lake Charles
