CBS owned CW affiliates to drop CW affiliation and go independent

Apologies if this has been posted already, but seeing this post on their social media, unsurprisingly WPCW, soon to be WPKD will be KDKA+.

i just saw a CW promo saying that WADL is now with the CW,

Will atlanta and seattle find new homes or will they rely on cable and satellite for cw/other CW Stations and/or other affiliates that are open for the cw

is atlanta going to choose watl or wpch or somewhere else

Nothing confirmed yet but the article says its leaning towards WATL Atlanta since it would tie in with KONG Seattle and have TEGNA get two more new CW affiliates on board.

You could be right about WATL…

“WPCH is also being considered, because its status as an independent station means it can more-easily accommodate CW Network shows by moving around some syndicated programming. But the channel’s distribution in Canada — which dates back to its ownership by Turner, when it was called WTBS (later TBS Superstation) — proves somewhat problematic for Nexstar, in part because the network is relying on older Canadian series to fill some of its prime-time schedule and has secured live sports programming whose rights are held by other broadcasters in the country.”

In a nutshell, WPCH would have to be subject to CRTC regulations.

Yes I posted the KPIX+ one for San Francisco when Paramount had to agree to remove CW references because of KRON San Francisco a Nexstar owned station has rights to the CW affiliation.

Here is KPIX plus for San Francisco the soon to be former KBCW San Francisco.

I just realized that it'll be the third such station to have Plus in its branding in the market... KICU and KQEH are the other two.

I saw the promo on WADL's website. I find it funny that the station is still gonna call themselves "My 38" instead of "CW 38"

Wait until the date... they'll more likely change the branding as expected.

Woah but WPCH has not gotten a Superstation status since WTBS became WPCH in the United States. Also interestingly Bell the TV provider in Canada has Three Nexstar stations in their Best package like KTLA, WPIX and the local feed of WGN. Nexstars flagship stations that have a superstation status in Canada is a carryover when these were Tribune owned those stations. In other words it's not just WPCH that is subjected to CRTC regulations in Canada but also KTLA, WPIX and WGN too given that they are carried in Canada. In KTLA and WPIX Case they are flagship CW affiliates. If these stations are not allowed to air certain CW content in Canada because of broadcast rights reasons what takes their place though. Does this mean KTLA, WPIX, WGN Local News take the CW spots in Canada. Or in WPCH Case the Atlanta News First from WANF takes the CW spots if they are subject to these regulations.

Nexstar has released promos for soon to be CW affiliates KRON, WTTA and WPHL.

In the case of WADL, I think that, because of short notice, they didn't have enough time to come up with new graphics & branding. As for the others, especially KRON, their branding is likely too well known in their viewing areas.

Same with KUSI-TV San Diego its a case of Mission and Nexstar waiting for the approval to get two of their stations and make them as CW affiliates in Detroit and San Diego.

isnt SD having 6 full powered stations, they don't allowed duopolies since they're 3 stations short of a duopoly
